Certainly can

One has to expect and accept different behaviours with different fw versions, configurations and environments (other 3rd party apps) which may interfere and cause such problems for some users.

Considering that the Touch Flo UI hasn't been developed with X1 in mind, you should expect compatibility issues or niggles here and there. That is more than normal.

Turning this thread into a Touch Flo discussion will be a waste of time and bandwidth for lots of us, as I'm sure that there are lots of exciting features of this phone to be discussed, shared and helped with.

P.S.: A separate TF thread may be a good idea..

Certainly can

however, if you started the music from the media xperience panel and then change panel, the music will stop. if you use windows media player from the programs menu, or any other 3rd party player, it will continue regardless of what panel or other software you switch to

yahooooooooooooooooo! i got my xperia black finally from clove! im so impressed with it!

Posted by Mizzle
@mass
That's not entirely correct. You can use the xperience panel to play music while still performing quite a few actions, such as writing messages or playing with the settings. It works on mine.

It didn't initially work, but I tried it once more, and then it worked

US Release date set for 11/28.
engadgetmobile.com posted the to-be-announced press release.

There is also a post on their hands-on review.

I was warming to the X1 again, then I read engadgets hands on report it does not make good reading, I quote
"just changing panels was a 10 to 30 second affair" WHAT! "and icons on the panels themselves generally took 5 or more seconds to respond to an input "
This merely reinforces my belief that this device is NOT ready yet and the people jokingly refer to as "Software Engineers" have clearly NOT up'ed their game in any way. I am so fed up!

Did anyone try to pair X1 with a stereo bluetooth handsfree (like HBH-DS970 or HBH-DS980)?

Do we get good audio quality, remote control and track/caller names on the lcd?

Phone vodafone, I was amongst the first wave to receive my X1 (had it over 2 weeks now) on Vodafone, and it all works fine for me .

Hi all,

I've had my X1 for a couple of weeks now (so according to Vodafone) I guess I'll have to keep it after my 14 day cooling off period, lol. Well I'm more than happy to do so. However Windows Mobile 6 errors strike again!

My Windows Live email account seem unaffected, but I've had to delete and add my yahoo email account 3 times now! As it fails to work for no reason... or so I thought...

The emails error a few have mentioned are down to a good olde Windows Mobile 6.1 BUG! Yes that means "all" Win Mobile handsets are affected.

After re-adding my Yahoo account a couple of times, as a work around, I thought a "cleaner" and easier fix might be around. Well just tonight I've found this BLOG from someone else that seems to confirm the issue.

For those interested:
http://www.tracyandmatt.co.uk[....]windows-mobile-6-1-smtp-issues

According to the author (Matt) he has had this BUG confirmed by Microsoft themselves. Apparently a fix is in progress and Matt will keep those interested informed.

Chris

p.s. at least it's not an Xperia BUG, I suppose...

For those that are interested: WindowsMobile61-KB958639_1.CAB does NOT fix this problem. Tested it today, and no change.

yes all ok with srs-btm30 speakers, bt50 headphones and mbr-100.

On X1 you can change bt quality in settings low, med, high and 44 or 48 hz, i couldnt notice the difference in headphones.

anyone have info on these settings please ?

This is totally weird.... on my Xperia, the waiting time for changing panel is about 6 - 8 seconds. This include starting from one panel, press x button and click another panel until the panel is ready to be used. The highest waiting time is 8 second from the most complex panel. the shortest time is 4 second in total (this is from less complex panel, for example from fish panel --> clickk x panel button --> click google panel button --> until google panel is ready to be used )... and yes I took the time with a timer.

I can list down the time required to switch panel :-

1) from 9 panel view to today panel - 2 second
2) from today panel to 9 panel view - 2 second
3) from 9 panel view to sony ericsson panel (analog clock) - 4 second
4) from sony ericcson panel to 9 panel view - 3 second

the rest about the same.... from 9 panel view to single panel ranging from 2 second to 4 or 5 second. and from single panel view to 9 panel view ranging from 2 second to 3 second.

.... surprise to read 10 second to 30 second !!! totally exaggrate in my opinion.

@My910

Are you using a X1a as they are if not you are not using the same device they are and just maybe that is one of the differences in performance between them.

@Dogmann, I think I understand what you said ... but I need to ask what an X1a is?

The reason I ask is that just today, as posted in another topic, and mentioned in the quote that MyP910 quoted by bertrandchiu, Sony Ericsson North America made an announcement that the X1 (not X1a) with identical specs to the... X1, ie. the X1 as seen on the US SE site for a while now, will be available on November 28th and is available for pre-order from today.

my point being that the announcement seemed to further cement that there is no X1a

The Internet connection is fine as I can browse no problem.

Yes, by default on my phone (Vodafone) it's called "My ISP".

No problem using it for web access, just can't use Windows Live.

Regarding AVRCP support this is confirmed working (by me) on:
Windows Media Player
S2P

Remote commands does NOT work in the SE Media panel.

Track and caller ID doesn't work at all.

Hi,

Does anyone know if it's possible to set priorities for internet connections?

On my P1 I had my wireless set as my main one, and then if it couldn't obtain it the phone would then connect via GPRS. So far the only way I've found of connecting to Wifi is going through the comm manager, otherwise any other internet program connects by default to GPRS.

Posted by masseur
the concept of priorities like on UIQ3 doesn't really exist

normally, on WM, the default is a "known" wifi conection if in range otherwise its whatever 3g/edge/gprs network connection is available.

however, if you are within range of a wifi connection that is not known, it will automatically prompt you to connect with one of those though you can reject that and revert again to a 3g/edge/gprs connection

note that this doesn't take into account what vodafone or other branded phones might do

Hi Masseur,
The european version will not work in Canada, USA the rest of the Americas and Autralia because the UMTS radio bands are not the same.

So the unbranded USA version of Xperia
Has a different UMTS Radio 850/1900/2100
and QVGA recording instead of VGA
Other that that all the specs are the same and should perform the same.

This version was known extensively during development as the "X1a"
but apparently they kept the name X1 but still is not the same identical phone as the X1 in europe.

The announced store price for unbranded is $800 USD, about $540 GBP

Hope this clarify the questions about x1a

I'll certainly tell you if mine works on the Telstra 850 frequency when I get home in Feb as I have a Telstra aus sim card.

sorry but this clarifies nothing unless you personally have direct experience otherwise we're both speculating on facts we have found, and I'm happy to say (until I get back to Sydney) that I'm basing my judgement on what I have read elsewhere from people who are using X1 in US (just look on XDA developers for example)

I'm also curious why everyone seems so obsessed with TF3D. I also have a Touch Pro and found it pretty poor. I admit it looks GREAT but once that wears off, the reality is:
1. The Today screen can't be configured to include your favourite apps.
2. The Today screen shows tomorrow's appointments before today's so you only see today's appointments if you have nothing on tomorrow!
3. Tapping on the Calendar on the Today screen always brings you to the Windows PIM even if you install a 3rd party PIM and have made it the default.
4. Favourite Contacts kept disappearing and had to be set up again.
5. The Outlook account icon kept disappearing from the Messages screen of TF3D (even though the account itself was still there and when unread mail was synched to it, the number of unread messages would increase). The only fix was a hard reset.
6. The volume settings when using the TF3D media player were totally inadequate. The only volume buttons available were the hardware buttons on the side and on the Touch Pro, the minimum setting was OK on the tube train but way too loud in most other situations (admittedly I use very sensitive ear phones - Shure se530). On the Windows Media Player, there is a separate volume control on the bottom right which could also be adjusted to take into account the sensitvity of the ear phones being used.
7. On the TF3D music player album artwork did not appear on some albums but did for others even though they appear on all when using Windows Media.

These are just issues I remember off the top of my head so there are lots of others I've forgotten. You can see why it puzzles me when you all seem to rave about TF3D. Is this a case of the grass being greener.........

Hi Bloob,

Firstly not everyone is obsessed with TF3, so each to there own. Others like SPB, some like the default panels. So it always surprises me when someone attacks a product, without seeking help or clarification on the problems they have. Many of us will and can help (if you're interested) but if not, no worries either. Obviously your experience is not a good one, but others (as you've said) do not share your problems, with the same device... question should be why? Or is your view the only view? Like I said, we might be able to help - if you'd like it.

Just a thought: maybe you have an old version of the TF3 conversion? Where did you download it from? As there is more than one version floating around.

In repsonse, :
1. Not at the moment, but this is being worked on, check out XDA=Developers.
2. I use appointments, and my screen displays them in order
3. I have tried other PIM's and this is a Windows mobile issue, a registry change is required for it to be used as the default program. Much like Internet Exploder over Opera Browser.
4. Don't have this issue at all.
5. Don't have this issue at all.
6. Your statement doesn't make sense? It's not loud enough, or it's too loud? Most would be extremely happy to hear it's too loud - as you can always turn it down. Hardware buttons - and the problem is?
7. Don't have this issue, what is your recording format? I have both MP3's and WMA's running and displaying album correctly through the TF3D player. I even have some music in different folders (my documents, music, my_music, etc.) and it still picks up the album art correctly from them.

So once again, here to help, but if it's still not for you, that's ok. That's why we have a choice.

Chris

[ This Message was edited by: the_mont on 2008-11-12 09:50 ]

Chris,

First and foremost, you have misunderstood my post. I was just pondering why there is such enthusiasm for TF3D and giving my point of view after trying it out for a few weeks on my HTC Touch Pro. Obviously from what I have said, I have no intention of installing it on my X1!

Regarding the point about the volume control, I understand fully why we would all normally be crying out for more volume, not less, after years of struggle with my P990, M600 and P1. But on my Touch Pro using the TF3D player, setting the volume to the very first level above silent is still too loud in most circumstances. When using Windows Media player there is a separate volume control on the bottom right which when adjusted to suit my ear phones (usually about 25%) means there is no problem.

Re album art, I only use mp3 format but the point is, when using the Windows player on the same phone all the artwork is present and correct even if some are missing on the TF3D player.

So Chris, please relax a little, I'm not attacking anyone but simply putting forward my own findings to balance the TF3D picture. I will also be the first to admit I know little about the technicalities of phones but am a heavy and experienced user with enough interest to look up the various websites when I have a problem.

Those comments are local. The Xperia X1 will not work on 3G UMTS in every place in the USA. For example: Miami and Detroit it won't get 3G because tnose cities are UMTS 850 and the Xperia X1 don't have it.
If you come to New York, YES it will work here because we have UMTS1900

Don't you think is better to do somthing NOW instead of getting home and get a surprise? it doesn't matter how much you want to deny reality when you get home If Telstra ONLY have 3G on 850 your Xperia will work only GSM but not 3G.

Let me make this simple Masseur:
Your Xperia has 3 bands for 3G UMTS speeds 900/1900/2100
Telstra in Australia Uses UMTS 850 for 3G speed.

The USA version X1a has 3 bands for 3G UMTS 850/1900/2100
This will work in Australia because X1a has UMTS 850 for 3G

I know there are Carriers in AU that use 1900/2100 for 3G Can't you use them?

Here some facts:
The FCC is the Communication authority. Every electronic company who wants to market/use any electronic device must comply with required testing and certification with the FCC.

Below some documents from the FCC:

That SE wants to use X1 for both versions, that's just marketing decision.
The fact remains that the models X1 and X1a are registered with the FCC and that the radio bands are different.

I hope I helped. Now is up to you.

In Aus, we have only one carrier providing service on UMTS850, and that is Telstra. All other networks (including that shared by Telstra and Three) are UMTS2100.

However all networks have more or less equal metro coverage. Telstra Next G, the 850 service, has slightly better country coverage than the 2100 networks.

Thank you!

What Masseur fails to realize that Australia uses different band (850) throughout the country where as in Canada & USA not ALL provinces/states use 850Mhz. In the Eastern/North USA States & eastern provinces in Canada we're set to 850Mhz predominantly. ALthough 1900Mhz towers are there - their set ONLY to GSM/GPRS/EDGE no 3G is turned on the network software/switch if you will.

MANY ppl in many boards (Here, Howardforums.com, 1 thread in a site.com & a few others) are experiencing network issues on AT&T because the Euro version ONLY has the 1900Mhz 3G band - the EDGE works on that quadband but no 3G.

Masseur is the KING of windows mobile here on Esato - but I'm very confident of my findings against his on bands here in North America since I live in Toronto = an eastern city on Rogers which follows AT&T due to the old partnership Rogers had with AT&T when AT&T began building their 3G network - regardless of the Cingular brand name switch after then back to AT&T.

Either way GLAD came out with official announcement and Black Friday with all this demand will DEFINATELY be a CASH COW for SE's coffers. Buy those stocks boys.

normally, on WM, the default is a "known" wifi conection if in range otherwise its whatever 3g/edge/gprs network connection is available.

however, if you are within range of a wifi connection that is not known, it will automatically prompt you to connect with one of those though you can reject that and revert again to a 3g/edge/gprs connection

note that this doesn't take into account what vodafone or other branded phones might do

Can an application allow a connection preference?? There is at least 2 on S60 so there MUST be a few on WM, no?

Cheers for clearing that up Masseur - I was wondering about connection priorities. I've found no trace of them on my X1 and was worried about data charges (until my unlimited mobileweb bolt-on kicks in!)

Have done.

Apparently I've to contact Microsoft as it must be their problem since there is nothing wrong with the Network or the handsets internet connection.

Chris,

First and foremost, you have misunderstood my post. I was just pondering why there is such enthusiasm for TF3D and giving my point of view after trying it out for a few weeks on my HTC Touch Pro. Obviously from what I have said, I have no intention of installing it on my X1!

So Chris, please relax a little, I'm not attacking anyone but simply putting forward my own findings to balance the TF3D picture. I will also be the first to admit I know little about the technicalities of phones but am a heavy and experienced user with enough interest to look up the various websites when I have a problem.

I'm always relaxed, just trying to help . Just to put a line underneath this, this forum is for SE Xperia, not HTC or Nokia, etc... Therefore my comments directly relate to issues with an X1, if you have not installed it on your X1, the conversation in this forum is... well slightly pointless.

Your own findings are not balanced, as they "DO NOT" represent or correspond to the X1. Lets keep this forum for X1 issues.

I've got a black xperia on the way from voda, the first phone i'm actually going to be properly interested in mobile internet for, i've got unlimited mobile data & email, what would the download limit be and would things like a lot of online video streaming get me a ticking off from voda?

Works OK with a colleagues SIM on the same Group Plan as me, just does not work with mine.

Was nice of VF to tell me adamantly this morning that there was nothing wrong at their end & I should go off and contact someone else.

@prom1, in Australia, we don't have many disparate providers as in the states - All providers offer their services in all states. In terms of coverage - the NextG network has greater coverage mainly due to the greater range of the lower frequency, there aren't actually more NextG towers than umts 2100 towers. From what I undertand all Next G towers support standard (2100) 3G for fallback.

It's a little different in the States and Canada, where somoe operators don't even field a service at all in certain areas.

I think masseur understands quite well the Aus network layout. We can't really lump Aus in with Canada or the States though. As you say, over your way there are 1900 towers that don't support 3G at all and some that do. So it's quite likely that some people have successfully used the European X1 in certain areas but not others. This may be what contributes to the confusion. (as pinguino pointed out, even though it's not marketed as such, the US destined X1 is an X1a, with UMTS 850)

In Australia the European X1 will work for all operators 3G, but for Telstra it will only be able to access 3G services on the UMTS 2100 fallback - so it won't benefit from the increased range of the umts 850 Next G network.

On the other hand the X1a will operate on the Next G service, as well as the other 3G networks. BUT, if the initial rumours are true, it means Aussie X1 fans will have to choose between better video recording performance and access to the next g network. Bugger!

Hey
Do any of you guys know if there is a more stable version of Touch Flow 3D. I got this problem with the other panels freeze when the version i got know is installed.
If there is or going to be one, where can i find it?

And I would like to know if any one knows when 32gb microSD cards will appear, and if it will be possible to use it on X1?

Vodafone have a fair-use policy of 15Mb per-day, check this is the case with your contract.

Hmmm,
Just a thought, when was the last time you replaced your sim?

Something they don't tell you is SIM's have a limited life-span and circuits on them start to deteriorate after approx. 2 years.

I only found this out by accident, after I had issues connect to some services and texts weren't being delivered. If you can't remember, replace it anyway. Pop into a Vodafone store and say you have an old/faulty sim and can they replace it. It's free, and the network updates within minutes (obviously they have to say give it a few hours).

Thanks i'll bear that in mind, it doesn't sound like a lot if you ask me, is that 15MB per actual day or is that the breakdown for the month? I'm also assuming it's possible to upgrade to REAL "unlimited" data for a fee, where i could browse a lot more?

Edit: I just looked up the T&C's and i get 500MB a month so thats an extra 1.6666666666666666666666667 MB a day than you're allowed for £1 a day.

Just a short time ago when I had connection problems on my N95, turned out to be a network problem.

It's all working now.

I emailed our sales lady & explained that a colleagues SIM worked but mine did not & they are on the same price plan. Explained I can't see how it can be a handset problem. It's either a SIM or a Network problem in my view.

She agreed, contacted a higher level in technical, asked them to compare the settings for the two SIM's and they found that, think it was APN was not active on mine so they switched this on.

Ten minutes later and it was fixed.

Thanks to all here for the pointers too.
