I will have an X1 in a few days so will test it with my MBW-100. If not I will have to get btwatch discussed here. <- sorry its not an esato thread!

From memory you unlock the panels in the registry and then would need to obtain the files for the missing panels on the O2 branded phones? Where di you locate the files for the missing panels?

Many thanks

I use my MBW-100 with the X1 without problems. SmartWatchM from Smartmadsoft makes it quite easy and with added functionality.

Hi,

1) you must unlock the O2 panel so that you can delete the panel later.

2) Download google panel. I got the panel files from xda-developer forum but it is for replacing vodafone panel.

3) in order to replace panel, delete all files from O2 panel and copy all the files from google panel to the O2 panel folder.

4) Make sure you change the file name of the picture files (in the google panel) to suit with O2 panel filename, so that the registry will be able to find the file. there are 4 picture files that corresponding to small portrait, big portrait, small landscape and big landscape pictures.

I have an MBW-150, and will be getting the X1 in a few days. I'll be sure to let everyone know how it goes. And as JiSm said; you can use btwatch. You can also use smartWatchM.

You'll have a clock or the time displayed, in the top right corner. Unfortunately you can't have a clock and the battery displayed at the same time. So to turn off the clock go into:

Settings -> More tab -> untick "Display clock in title bar". Press ok, and return to the main screen. Battery will now be displayed.

Additionally if you click on the battery icon, it'll display more accuracy how much charge you have remaining.

You can have up to 32GB in the X1.

Hi, I've never really used the internet on a mobile before, so forgive me for my lack of knowledge. Basically, could someone explain the differences between the various data connections? I've noticed that sometimes when I connect online, I have a G (GPRS, 3G) in the corner, and other times I have H (HSDPA). Could someone explain which connection is better? And why does it keep changing from one to the other? Are there other connections I should be aware of?

edit: oh, and one more thing. After I've updated my RSS feeds, should my phone continue to stay connected, or is the connection supposed to just shut off itself?

ricster2000 I am using the hsdpa data plan from t-mobile, and depending how your coverage is I see no difference between my wifi lan connection and hsdpa, the hsdpa account need to be activated for you to use it authenticates with their server, I had it enabled in the advanced connection properties, before I had the hsdpa account with T-Mobile I had the H notification displayed but couldnt connect, So after ringing technical support, They enabled my hsdpa account then bingo, It does drain the battery though

Hey all - been playing with my X1 for a couple of days now and overall enjoying it, as people have mentioned a few issues here and there and I hope these are addressed in updates. I have a few questions:-

1) Bluetooth - when I pair from my laptop I only get 3 services, unlike my P1 where I have many more. On this point I cannot send a file to the file over BT as I dont have the service to do this but the phone says it supports it! I believe I read others were having BT problems - any cures?

2) Registry Editor - I tried to install a couple of free ones but they didnt see compatible, what are others using?

3) Smileys - I dont see any way to add smileys apart from typing out the symbols. Any nice utils to enable point and click addition like on the P1 for example?

4) Sync - Struggling to find any software to allow me to sync say my diary from Lotus Notes and contacts from Outlook (work and personal!) does this exist outside of ActiveSync?

5) Case - any nice non-bulky cases/soft bags yet I can only find large bulky leather ones.

All in all a gorgeously well made device that I think should only improve with some software additions and firmware updates

Many thanks

Ant

Good example man.

MP has nothing to do with image quality per se. It has more to do with image size than actual quality. For example a 2MP image will be smaller on a computer screen or 1:1 print out than a 5MP image. But the quality itself depends only on the performance of the image sensor.

For example my Dad's 2-3 year old 6MP DSLR with APS sized sensor takes far better quality pictures than the cheap 12MP compact I bought the other day. The DSLR has a sensor size roughly 10 times larger than the 12MP compact. Because the Sensor is so much larger each photosite (pixel) is larger and is far less prone to noise.

3G means fallback to the slower 3G (up to 384Mbps) when you can't get a solid HSDPA connection. So 3G is good, (better than gsm fallback) but HSDPA is better ie: faster

Try Total Commander. It's a file manager (improves on the inbvuilt one) which also includes registry editing function and lan browsing. It works well on WM 6.0 should work fine on the X1.

I'm still not convinced there will be an X1a because...

The current X1 is X1 and not X1i
The X1 is shown on the US and Australian SE product pages as X1
The X1 has 850/1900 mhz frequencies available to choose
I've read a few reports that these frequencies work fine

hence, no real need for an X1a

Buggy? What problems did you experience? I have been running TouchFlo 3D for a week now, no crashes, no freezes, no sloweness, no problems .

I've been tweaking a few settings, based on XDA Developer tips, but not for any performance reasons. Actually once running (and it is the only panel I use) it's speed puts SPB shell and the default panels to shame... seriously.

I wrote a report early in this thread, and will follow up with my tweaks, even though it's obviously not your cup of tea.

Just to add there are many versions of the battery monitor available, I don't need a mini-clock/time in my title bar, but an actual percentage of battery usage, definitely .

I use this one:

If you like, you'll need to install the sdkcerts.cab file as well, as the X1 won't work without it. This cab is also available down the above link.

It's a long thread, but you only need page 1. If you don't like it, uninstall using the "Remove Programs" under the Settings->Systems tab.

if there's no x1a, then, will 3G still work in the usa?

Posted by WhyBe
^^^ Yes, as long as the 3G frequencies of your provider matches the X1's UMTS frequencies. There was a video posted a few pages back showing the X1i using 3G on USA AT&T.

I think the manufacturing delays may have something to do with the non-announcement of the X1a.

I wonder what specific component is holding things up?

With the lack of communication, all the disinformation and all the rumors your conclusion seems to make sense. But there are a few reasons why they need a version that is not exactly the X1(i).
1- The x1a is on page 20 of the 3rd revision of the White paprer dated May 2008.
2- In the White Paper there are references to the X1 and x1a
3- They name the bands as we know them today (at the general consensus)
GSM 850/1900/900/1800
Tr-iband UMTS 900/1900/2100
Tri-band UMTS 850/1900/2100
I know in many "GENERAL" descriptions they bunch them together.
4- Look at your Box
5- The CPU called for the X1a is different from the X1 MSM7200A vs MSM7201A
6- The main difference between those CPU is the QVGA @ 24fps.
7- That's due to the pending legal litigation between Qualcomm and Broadcom that prevents Qualcomm to use the MSM7200A in USA.

Therefore with two issues the 850 band and the patent infringemet the solution is another version.

Hey everyone,
I was wondering, how can I change the clock to a 12:00 hour clock and not a 24 hours clock?
I've been playing around in the Settings and couldn't find anything that'll let me change the time.

could it be that it's not possible to change the time to 12 hours because it's WM?

hi Max,
I agree that the quality of an image depends of a lot of factors. Also that MP has do more with image size.

But I would like to add that MP is also a contributor to the quality of an image. From the point of view of the end user or observer the MP will make a difference in many ways:

For example a picture of complex drawing like a dollar bill. if you want to see it printed or on screen with at the exact dimension or the original The quality of the reproduction for 8mp vs a 2 or 3mp will be very noticible for the simple reason that the hi res pictures has more dots to describe the fine details thanwhat the 3mp can do.

Similar situation will happen when you want to enlarge a picture let's say to frame size of 8x10 inches for example.

So what all this means is that the number of pixel ALSO contributes in part to the overal quality of a picture and in sme cases dramatically.

To sync with Lotus Notes, I highly recommend Commontime mNotes. There is a 30-day free trial available at www.commontime.com.

One word of advice - read the installation instructions carefully, and follow it exactly.

I'm using mNotes Desktop right now and it is very smooth and seamless.

@pinguino2,

it seems we both have good arguments for our conclusions but:

1. SE white papers are often wrong

2. All those frequencies are listed in my phone and, from reports, working

3. Not sure what you mean by "look at your box". I checked the box and everywhere on it, it says X1 and not X1i. This includes the label which also lists all the frequencies of 850/900/1800/1900 & UMTS EU1/US2/EU8 (see pic below)

4. I'm aware of the qualcomm issue, and I was thinking about that. Its really just a component within the phone and so I don't see why SE couldn't sell the phone in US with the different "component" and still call it X1. No where in the US X1 specifications page, or anywhere else in the product description, does it specify recording rates and sizes. Its all just generic description of "video recording". Products are often sold in different markets with different components although this is more normal when they have local manufacturing and some components are not as available as others.

5. Finally, 9 months after the X1 was announced there is still no separate announcement for an X1a

I guess as always, time will tell

1) I believe if you download the panel to your pc, it is a .cab file and not .rar . you just have to copy .cab file to your mobile phone and execute directly. it will install itself.
