I'm not sure about earlier versions, but yes, you can do this on all WM 6.x devices.

Hi there,

To answer some of your questions:
1. yes I'm sure you can, but being busy at work, I've not had much time with my new X1, so maybe one of the others can help. If not I'll find out and tell you later.

2. I already answered that one on the same page (393) as your original question - just scroll up

5. Already answered also on top of page 390.

I'm sure others will chip in with help on your other questions.

Had the same issue, it is a pain that Windows Mobile doesn't allow multiple Bluetooth sends, as my P990 allows me to send and receive multiple via bluetooth!

Anyway easy fix do the following:
0. Ensure your k800i is paired via bluetooth with your computer
1. Download & install Outlook Express (available free)
2. Import into Outlook Express
3. Open Address Book in Outlook Express
4. Select all contacts, right click -> Action, send to Bluetooth -> your k800i
5. Once sent - re-order address book (firstname, lastname) using program, as answered in your previous thread.

Hope that helps.

I am still waiting to get my hands on the Xperia - was a bit hesitant after my P990 experience but the positive comments have almost convinced me that SE finally got it right - with a little help from HTC and Microsoft!

I have been contemplating getting the HTC Touch Pro or waiting for the HTC Touch HD mainly because of their cool interface but the guys at XDA-Developers have ported the TouchFlo3D GUI to the Xperia and it apparently works like a charm! Those interested can check out the thread on http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=428351&page=9. Exciting stuff this is!

OK I need Chinese and Japanese support for email, web and need to have input too. CE-Star has it's limitations. Asukal's cabs do too and hard buttons are often disabled.

Question for you is, what do you recommend to get perfect Japanese and Chinese input? Download sites and any registry edits would be useful too.

OH! man, that's a hard question you are throwing at me. Out of my league.
I have a rule If I don't know I don't guess.

Hi pinguino2!

I like hard questions !

don't worry all! I was just hoping for something better, with better fonts! Also no need for registry edits !

I will post here or at XDA-Developers if I find anything!

Thanks for that, looks like a good site.

I'm going to have a play around today, just haven't looked into at all due to the good olde work commitments, suppose we all have to work sometime, lol.

My initial guess is sms & alarm tones will have to be in particular music format to work (e.g. .wav or .wma - being Windows after all), and reside in the correct sounds folder. Certain use to be the case with older mobiles like my t68i.

I send the contacts details on my N95 to X1 using bluetooth. First I select all the contacts then make sure the phones r pair together then select sent and there was no problem at all.

Does anyone know of a finance tracking application, similar to Quicken or MS Money, available for WM?

Thanks

This has probably been answered before, but i missed it. Does the english version of xperia come with any memory included? The swedish version has a 4gb memory card in the box, but the german version does not.

There are quite a few that will sync with either Money or Quicken. SPB Finance or Cash organsier 2008 are good ones to start with.

Hi all,

Can someone please confirm that the X1 is indeed Quad band GSM and dual band UMTS. As so far what is being said makes no sense as whilst the X1 may work with AT&T on the 850mhz band that would be GSM and not UMTS which is a very different result altogether.

For the X1 to work on 850 UMTS it would also work on 1900 UMTS as that is how the bands are paired is it not? so if it doesn't work on 850 band because although the setting is there it doesn't actually have the hardware support it is not going to work on the 1900 band either for the same reason logic dictates.

As i said this is a report from the first person to actually try it rather than speculate lets just wait and see what happens as more X1's hit North America and wait for some one to say they are getting 3G/HSDPA on a X1. Then and only then will anyone have proof that a X1 will work on North American 3G.

But personally i just don't see this happening and that is why there is a X1a for North America only time will tell which of us is right so lets just wait and see rather then going round and round in circles.

The X1 is tri-band umts, not dual band.

As penguino stated:

"Xperia X1i =
GSM 850/900/1800/1900
UMTS 900/1900/2100"

For the Americas, ie: X1a, it's umts 850/1900/2100.

Anyone who buys an X1i expecting it to work in Canada or the US for 3G, when it's clear that the X1a is the phone intended for that market, has to occur to them to do a little research first about what frequencies it supports.

As penguino stated, Rogers uses UMTS 850, so why would anyone buy an X1i expecting it to work on that network. There is no need to try anything, the answer is clear - it won't work.

The Americas generally use 850/1900. Europe generally uses 900 and 2100. Australia uses 850 (telstra "next g") and 2100 (all operators). So for example in Australia we would need an X1a to use the telstra Next G network, or an X1i to use the other operator's 3G networks.

Atleast in America they only need one version

As to X1i and umts 1900 in the US, well I don't know. I guess you are right we need to see more people try. But imho just because it supports 1900 doesn't mean it will work in the US.

Some people here have said that the fonts in the Xperia X1 is very small, but that is a relative thing. So my questions is how small is small?

Is it as small as the Small Font in the SE P1i?
Is it consistently small in the menus vs windows vs IE or Opera browser?

I like small fonts as that allows me to see more text and things on one page, and quite comfortable reading small sized fonts. But as age plods on, I may find that an increasing challenge

Can anyone help with this request? Much appreciated.

I stand corrected was having a just woken up moment and was just coming back to edit my post to correct it.

Apologies i got it wrong but as i said many are now awaiting delivery of their X1's in North America so as soon as they get them we should have all the answers we are currently seeking.

Hi all,

Just tried gave Google Maps a through "road test". Yes actual road test.

When you switch on GPS, it'll track your current location fairly accurately (200m is what most quote) to your destination. Having never used it before (I don''t bother with SatNav - I'm an old map die-hard) I must say I'm very impressed. Great if you're walking, and not bad if you're driving, and apart from internet access - totally free. I'm not saying it's a replacement for SatNav, as it's doesn't tell you to turn left, etc. though some actually find that annoying. On purpose I took a different street to the recommended route and it still tracks your location accurately.

One obviously downside though... it'll use quite a bit of battery power, but hey it's big battery and you can always buy a cigarette lighter charger.

Apologises for the useless waffle, but I was taught it good to share

Hi all,

Well OK then it does appear to support AT&T's HSDPA Network which is good news for some in the US.

But the one thing that Video did show really well IMO is just how small the text size is and once you double tap it so that it is nice and readable just how little information is then shown. Plus what was my other annoyance that every page needs to be zoomed even within the same session.

@The mont

Actually i agree with you Google maps really is very good now and like you i don't need turn by turn voice directions. I used Google maps recently when i took Otis to kennels and it was nothing short of brilliant and showed my position very accurately indeed.

I've just got off the phone with Voda after succesfully negotiating my upgrade to the X1.
The first guy I spoke to in the upgrades dept told me that because I was only on a £30 a month contract, I'd have to pay £200 for the handset!!!After expressing my disgust, he passed me through to someone else who then told me he could do it for £50. After a bit of umming & ahhing from me, he eventually agreed to do it FOC
It will be delivered between 10:00 and 15:00 tomorrow. I'm so excited, I've been waiting for this since it was anounced back in february.

Hi there,

If contacts are the same as in your address book (i.e. identical name fields used) when you "save a contact" within the Sim Manager, you should be presented with an option to overwrite it. You can do this on-mass, and select all contacts within the SIM manager to copy.

Once you're happy all have been copied to the Contacts on the phone, you can delete the SIM contacts.

Other than that, you can put all SIM contacts into a separate group. Not ideal, but a solution of sorts.

I want this phone fast. In Norway it's only the english version out. The Norwegian version isn't due until next year.
Now to my question: I've heard about a 3. part. WM programs that can "remap" my hardware keyboard. I want my special Norwegian letters ÆØÅ. Anyone know of any good program. I ran across the AE Keyboard Mapper, is that any good? Thanks......

Good effort, as I've said on here before, everything is negotiable . To anyone else on Vodafone, like we are, take note and keep asking to lower that price. Each "sales/phone agent" has there own budget. Basically they can do what the heck they like... however they can't do brill deals for everyone, so always ask if someone else can give you a better one.

I haven't paid for an phone upgrade since 2000, or it's just because I'm lucky?

@apanjwani

I really don't now where you have got this idea that the X1 is crap as that is just rubbish and I'm some one that had an X1 and sold it.

Yes some of us haven't liked various aspects of the X1 but that hardly makes it crap or rubbish there are plenty of other users that are loving there X1's.

The X1 has excellent build quality and is fast and reasonably stable with the exception of the panels refreshing hardly the end of the world. But then not everyone likes the same OS and that is why some of us have given up their X1's but again it doesn't make it a bad device.

I'm sure many X1 users wouldn't of liked my favorite device the Nokia E90 but that doesn't make that rubbish either. Now if you don't like the X1 because it is running WM fair enough your choice to make. There will never be one device that will suit all the secret is to try and find the one that suits your needs the best and seems for many that actually is the X1.

So please stop the hate just because you don't like it or are we all only meant to and be allowed to like the same device and functions that you value?

Marc

I have just spent a few days in a rural area with poor signal. (I am on VF but it was the same with all networks). As this was a new phone I took my P1 with me. What I noticed was that the times I has no signal on the X1 I still had 2 bars on my P1.

How is everybody else finding the signal reception?

Also I notice that when I am in a call if I hold the phone away from me, even with the call volume turned down to lowest setting, I can still hear the conversation clearly (without loud speaker on) leaving me thinking anyone near by can hear what the caller is saying. Anyone else finding this?

And how are people finding battery life? I find it quite poor, seems there is always a data link even when idle. I turn it off manualy only to find it stays on when an app uses it.

As for email, even when connected to Wi-Fi, the email client switches the 3G data link on to send/recieve.

Lastly does anyone know who to put Wi Fi and Bluetooh icons in the Now Screen of SPB panels?

Sorry if some of these are noob questions but I am a WM newbie. I realy want to to give the X1 a fair chance but so far I am just finding it harder and slower to use than my P1 and I want to see of I can change that rather than giving up.

Thanks JD

Maybe the problem is not the"bad signal" of the X1... its just that maybe the X1 is taking a frecuence that it doesnt go that far, and the p1 is picking a different frecuence which has more coverage

Expansys-USA has subsidized X1i's with voice and data plans in the $500-$600 range. I'm hoping they switch my UK pre-order to the USA site.

They also have the X1a announced as coming soon.

sonyericsson is repeating history with xperia .stock issues still persist and alot of xperia users have not welcomed the windows operating system on the xperia positively.i still cant forget how SE had made a fool of itself by coming out with p990i which was my most anticipated phone.i still hate nokia and crave for SE handsets but SE has just cant come out with a decent handset after the p910i.i just wish that the xperia flops bigtime and people dont burn their money rather than saving it in such a serious global recession.

Well I had a P990 and yes there were some problems there were some good aspects as well. Best call quality, nice hardware keyboard etc. I hope people getting the X1 do some homework - there are many reviews and YouTube videos. So the X1 should not be a great surprise. The best thing about the X1 is the very high build quality (and great screen). And what is this about stock issues - every O2 shop has stock as do CPW shops (UK).

Edit: and remember review of a proto is just that, a review of a proto. Proto hardware and proto software.

Hi all,

There also are now quite a few X1's starting to appear on E-Bay some are VodaFone upgrades but some are unbranded.

Fiddly to use - WinMob is soooo hopeless.
Panels are just pointless and boring - eye candy hiding the WinMob monster that lurks beneath.
QWERTY is rubbish. Tiny tiny keys with no travel...really awful.
On screen keyboard a nightmare to use even with stylus.

I hated the Omnia and the Omnia was ten times better than this.
OK I was playing with a proto...even so that cannot hide the truth.
Didn't bother trying out the camera or anything.

Saving grace...it's small and the screen is pretty hi res and clear.

If you must chuck your money at a WinMob communicator with QWERTY then try an HTC device instead, far more mature product.
If you can do without QWERTY and want a WinMob touch screen phone then go for the Omnia.
If you want a touch screen phone then choose anything from Samsung, LG, HTC, Nokia over this.
If you want a convergence device...again look at Nokia/Samsung/HTC.

Last but not least...many of the non-tech media have billed this device as SEMC's answer to iPhone.
R U 'aving a laff
No chance. The Apple device cr@ps all over this and from a great height too.
Cannot believe this device is badged SEMC it's truly awful."

crap enough for you?

Ahh, thats just someone bitching. WinMo, makes the handset fiddly. That's SE's fault WHYYY!??? Meh. Its your choice to buy it or not. If you buy it senselessly, not knowing what you're getting, then thats your problem. Ive seen extreme contrasts with what people think of WinMo handsets. The one who doesnt bother to see what it can really do and just uses it as it comes, he says its slow, dated, boring etc etc etc. The one who downloads new software, takes an interest and knows what he is doing says it is brilliant and it can do anything he wants. So it just depends what you're looking for. If its not the latter, then its not WinMo you want. Saw a dummy phone of X1 today. Its really beautiful. About the size I imagined, but suprizingly thin. There is no way in hell that the silver one is better than the black one. Compared to the black, silver is epic fail. Black one pwns!!! I think I will buy it as soon as stock comes in. Can't wait to see TF3D running on it

... THANKS A LOT!!!... but i have one question... how do you make it as your default today screen??

Posted by rontysee
Tf3d just replaces your microsoft today screen which is panel no. 1. So, it will automatically be your default today screen

Posted by shamuloco
Does the Touchflo 3D also works in landscape mode??... If i open the keyboard is it going to change to landscape or is it going to mess up everything??

Another thing... if i install the Touchflo in my X1... if i want to get back to the standard "todays screen" of WM6.1... can i just easily unninstall the Touchflo 3D?... or do i have to do a reset of the hole system?? :s

Thanks in advance

Currently, tf3d doesn't work in landscape. Opening the keyboard wont mess up anything though. It can be easily disabled or uninstalled. Just goto start>settings>personal>today and untick tf3d . For further details, visit http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=428351

Can anybody recommend a good calender app please. Something that is as good as Aqua Calender for UIQ. This has a huge amount of icons that can be displayed in the month view so you can see what is upcoming over a larger span of time.

Thanks
