@Max

As i said there were a few things that i didn't really like and have found out these weren't just because it was a VodaFone X1. But although Masseur was OK with the text size he did mention that the screen although wide isn't very tall although that is partly down to the small size of the X1. It did mean i wasn't that happy with the text size and how much info was seen in either of the Web Browsers and once zoomed in showed even less info on the screen.

Also the keyboard had to much wasted space IMO why have gaps between the letters? also the keys were small and offered very little tactile feed back many times i would enter multiple entries of the same letter and need to delete them.

But once again i must stress i did think there were some great positives on the X1 just for me the negatives outweighed them. These things may not bother others but on an X1 Forum i was not the first or only person with these complaints or the only person to have sold or returned the X1. So my perception of these negatives is not unique to me.

@Dogmann
So are you going to try the TouchHD or go back to Nokia?

Posted by shamuloco
Does anyone knows what are going to be the difference in bands of the X1i and the X1a??

What connections have each one??

Thanks

Posted by Residentevil
There won't be a X1a as the X1 has all the necessary bands to works worldwide.
* GSM 850
* GSM 900
* GSM 1800
* GSM 1900
* EDGE
* UMTS tri-band 850/1900/2100
* HSPA

Posted by WhyBe
So what's going to be announced on Nov 3rd since "there's no X1a" ?

UMTS 850 on X1 i ?? or did you mean UMTS tri-band 900/1900/2100 ?

here's a screen dump of exactly the choices you have

Posted by Dogmann
@WhyBe

No I'm not going to try a Touch HD as i really am just not a Touch Screen fan neither am i getting a Nokia as currently there is nothing that appeals to me in their range either.

I have gone back to my Bold which for me and for now is the best all round device, it's 2.7" screen is crisp and bright. It's keyboard is excellent and offers all the letters and symbols i could want and are easily accessible entering data is a breeze. The Bold is better than my Nokia's or the X1 was at playing Music both in the quality it offers and volume. Video playback is as good on the Bold as the other devices although the Bold natively supports more codecs but IMO the Bolds screen is even better than the others. E-Mail is really class leading as this is a Blackberry's strongest feature and with Doc's to Go included even Documents are handled well. Also the BB OS is fast stable and very easy to learn and navigate and i have needed to add less apps to it then other OS's i have used.

It may not be the best device for everyone else but as i said for me and for now it leaves me wanting nothing and I'm happy to be back using it after just 24hrs away from it.

@Masseur

I was reading over at an X1 Forum even though that screen shows the two options that doesn't mean those other bands are actually available. But there does seem to be great confusion over this issue and no one really seems to have a definitive answer as yet just for a change.

Dogmman said: 'the screen although wide isn't very tall although that is partly down to the small size of the X1'. My question is this: Which one is taller P1 or X1 screen? It's nice to see how X1 screen is wider than P1 but which one is taller? Does somebody know the answer?

Posted by Dogmann
Hi Koto,

I didn't have an P1 so can't comment but here are a couple of pictures you can see how wide or long it is in portrait but also that it is not that deep.

Hope this helps give you some idea of the dimensions and view and yes i know they are not great pictures but the best i can manage just now.

@Dogmann, yeah I've seen the confusion and I can't be certain either. But there is only one model now named X1 (rather than X1i or X1a) in the global portfolio, the model I have only says X1, and the bands it shows are the ones listed on the product page.

I was going to choose the 1900+850 band and put my aussie sim card in (so I can choose any network), but then I realised that no uk network uses either of these frequencies, so i can't test it until I head back to oz where 850 is available, but that won't be 'till after Christmas now and I'm sure there'll be confirmation by then

@Koto, here's a pic another member took

Besides watching Tropic Thunder, thats the funniest thing i seen whole week. I could imagine a whole press conference just to say no Xperia X1a.

Does someone know which size and resolution to use for contact images?

I'll sync between X1 and Outlook 2007

Some pics in contacts is awful quality.

Hi Whybe,

It takes cooperation on both the client side and server side. So the iPhone has software that takes advantage of some "hooks" provided by the AT&T voicemail system.
All of your voicemails are listed with their caller-id info or area info (if no caller-id is available). The user can select which voicemail they choose to listen to--in other words, random access voicemail. You can also pause, fast-forward, and rewind voicemail during playback (I guess the audio is downloaded to the iPhone through 3G or Edge before playback). This is one of those special features that people rave about on the iPhone.

I was hoping there would be something similar available for WinMo.

Well, I finally took the plunge and ordered from CPW. I rang earlier this week and they offered to match an O2 deal of £99.99 handset on an 18 month, £35 p/month contract.

When I rang today, I got through to the Customer Loyalty department. They offered me a £39.99 handset on an 18 month, £35 p/month contract

I went for the unlimited mobileweb bolt-on, but I have to wait until 04/12/08 before this kicks in

The only problem now, is waiting until Monday for it to be delivered

At work all my calls are forward to my cell and my email, so I have a record of who call and who left voice mail.
If I go into the voice mail I listen one at a time.
If I go into email I pick which one to listen

I believe you dissected an Xperia. If you did, maybe you are the person to confirm all the rumors about te 384MG RAM and the RADIOS because it seems that the software shows 1700 an 850 but maybe the hardware is not there.

Hi!

for those that used, not just looked at on the internet, a TyTn II!

Why is the X1 better than the TyTn II?

I played with one in CWP today, and checked out panels, fish etc etc !

It felt sturdy and the keyboard slid out smoothly... Yes, it felt really good...

but, in your opinion, why is it so much better?

I think they said £549-95 ? for sim free.

if you've updated your TyTN II to 6.1 then really the difference is screen size/resolution, panels and overall size.. and the fact its and the quality of build and feel is excellent

Posted by DexterMorgan
Anyone know of any good voice/sound recording software?

Also when it crashes/freezes is there a way to reset it without removing the battery?

EDIT: Also anyone know of a good screen protector. Still got the original cover on atm.

Hi all,

I've spent a bit of time today looking at topics on the website http://www.xperiax1.net/ and found some good Win mobile 6 programs, and good advice.

Top two:

1. utility to change multi-threaded messaging to single-standard view. Some might like the Windows continuous feed, but I like to delete messages I no longer need. Must be the house-keeping IT person in me, lol. For those interested it's called "settings+" and can be downloaded from http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/ppc-download-settings.html

2. For vodafone users: You CAN easily get rid of the Vodafone Live panel, if you so wish. I'm not too bothered by it at the moment, but apparently when it's gone internet access is even faster. There is a set of steps but someone has written a .cab to do the tricky bits and replace it with the google panel. Obviously you'll have to be careful re:warranty, but this guy has thought of that and backs up the Vodafone live panel, so you can replace it, so it's all good. If you want to know how, I'll put it here, but had to shutdown my laptop earlier, so can't remember exact link.

Slowly customising and finding my way, next thing to find out: a way to use mp3's for text message alerts. Ringtones are easy.

BTW to increase the size of the font on Opera Browser, just double tap the screen, found out by accident, lol.

TytnII is plastic, X1 is metal (almost). X1 has 800x480 resolution, Tytn 320x240. X1 has more RAM, etc. I don't get the question?! O.O

Throw me a harder question. This is too easy

Smaller,
lighter
thinner
larger screen size
higher Screen resolution
better touch screen
Bigers keys
spaced keys
Optical d-pad
better metalbuild
Cool looking
better camera
faster CPU
more RAM
more ROM
WM 6.1
better HSDPA
FM radio
better battery
longer talk time
longer stand by time

Xperia smaller with bigger features
TyTnII bigger with smaller features
.

Guys i need your help. I have got my Xperia today, this is the first time every i have used windows mobile. For past couple years i have been using k800i, probably thats why i find xperia bit hard to use.
First of all on xperia can i set a short cut which takes me straight to write a new message like on my k800i it was when press left on joy stick.
2. Text messages are stored as a conversation, which i dont like i want it to b like as it was in my k800i.
3. My friend sent me a pic msg, The pic was very small, probably thats because of the high resoultion of the xperia, how can i enlrage the picture?
4. On screen keyboard is prety small for my fingers can i increase the size of it.
5. The phone book is displayed by last name, First name i looked through the settings to change it to First name first. Can it b done?

After a day of use these are they main problems, i might have some more in coming days, meanwhile your help will be appricitaed.

Hi all,

Re the what bands does the X1 work on user cpuz over at Xperia X1 Forum has just received his X1 and this is what he has reported.

Guys,

OK after checking and checking again and despite being told that the X1 supports 850 and 1900 3G the device turned up today and guess what? It does not so I can't get Rogers 3G out here in Canada!!!!!!!

Going to the phone settings shows that the device can be switched into the correct mode but doing this seems to have no effect.

I can only guess that the device has the software to support the band but the hardware does not.

So be careful folks, while you will get great Edge coverage you will not be able to get 3G!!!!!!

You have been warned!!

P

Sorry if this is not what many of you wanted to hear but it does seem like you will indeed a X1a to be able to use North American 3G/HSDPA.

I wouldn't be too hasty, just on one user's experience so far. It could be a faulty unit. First thing he should be doing is checking it out with his supplier before posting what basically is just his assumption.

Not only that, the panel is a software thing - anything a cab file can do to your phone, a master reset can undo. There is no modification to the firmware installed on ROM.

OK I need Chinese and Japanese support for email, web and need to have input too. CE-Star has it's limitations. Asukal's cabs do too and hard buttons are often disabled.

Question for you is, what do you recommend to get perfect Japanese and Chinese input? Download sites and any registry edits would be useful too.

You are kidding right i mean you can't be serious this user has imported into Canada a X1 from the UK gone into the settings and changed it for the bands he needs it to work on 3G/HSDPA in Canada and it doesn't work.

Common sense dictates that if SE is offering two version of the X1 and the X1a in particular to work in North America plus they have said that the X1's are quad band GSM and only dual band UMTS. That despite all the wishful thinking that the X1 would support quad band UMTS it doesn't.

I would say this users experience is more likely to be right than those hoping the X1 does support quad band UMTS which lets face it seems extremely unlikely in the cold day of light. After all this is the first person that has actually tried it and it hasn't worked. Also i have yet to hear from one user in North America that has reported it works on North American UMTS as yet which says it all really doesn't it?

Some people here have said that the fonts in the Xperia X1 is very small, but that is a relative thing. So my questions is how small is small?

Is it as small as the Small Font in the SE P1i?
Is it consistently small in the menus vs windows vs IE or Opera browser?

I like small fonts as that allows me to see more text and things on one page, and quite comfortable reading small sized fonts. But as age plods on, I may find that an increasing challenge

Also i have yet to hear from one user in North America that has reported it works on North American UMTS as yet which says it all really doesn't it?

Xperia X1i =
GSM 850/900/1800/1900
UMTS 900/1900/2100

You don't have to test it to find out if it works on Canada. I warned them!!! b ut they went ahead and ordered.
It doesn't work in Canada with Rogers simply because Rogers works over UMTS 850
But it should work with GSM/EDGE

In USA it works on AT&T over UMTS 1900 most places
It works on GSM/EDGE.

NOTE: Despite that there are 1900 towers all over the country, that doesn't mean that there is 3G all over the country. 3G is found on all major metroplitan populated areas. (blue areas)

Check this map. it will be very easy to understand.

@pinguino2

thanks for that.

Throw me a harder question. This is too easy

OH! man, that's a hard question you are throwing at me. Out of my league.
I have a rule If I don't know I don't guess.

But I'm sure we have some people here that will show you the way (if it's any).
@ALL,
Can we help Ofiaich?

@dogmann,

This is what you said he said. I think it's beyond belief to claim that the software would have support for hardware that doesn't exist. the firmware is designed for the specific hardware, not as a generic software. therefore I thought it not unreasonable to state that before posting that it doesn't work that he should check that he doesn't have a faulty unit.

I don't think you can say I must be kidding to say that.

As it happens penguino has explained it. Seems the guy was infact informed that it wouldn't work, but he went ahead and assumed it would. So no the unit is not faulty, but I am not familiar with Canada frequencies. Someone from Canada should be I would think, which makes it really stupid to buy a phone and not even know that it won't work.
