he would say" all you SE fans are just deluded fanboys who have yet come to grips with reality. these phones dont really exist and are just a figment of your imagination. i've been working in mobile business for 200 years and i know for a fact that there is no way SE can make such kick ass phones. And it also doesnt have the OMAP chip which is really needed.
P.S. Nokia pwns you all!"

I hope he doesnt take that seriously, was just a joke

PK isn't giving away details because the phone that he tested has not been formally announced yet. The X1 is an unexpected treat because everyone was so focused on the Pnext, few saw this coming. I'm sure he'll be able to give away details once he can do so without getting fired.

A SIMPLE QUESTION:

does it have a CAMERA SHUTTER button on the side?????

that means that: is the menu for camera is horizontal or not????

btw... people please stop complaining about 65k color.... you have NO idea how it looks like on a ((((((WVGA))))))) resolution.... you won't notice the color banding.

Posted by QVGA
Actually 65k is a disappointment. They should have gone with 16 million. That does make a difference.

In this wave of euphoria, let's not forget to thank Mr. Komiyama for being at the helm and imposing changes for the better, this is now a much better direction SE is heading. No more branding to compensate half-ar$ed efforts. Good job!

Posted by chombos1
i still have my question if anyone knows it....

does it have a CAMERA SHUTTER button on the side??????????????

please...... i really want to know.

SE can do that, but WM doesn't allow mroe than 65K colors similar to all WM-based PDAs around. i hope you understand that

All rumors at the mo...

"Taiwan-based and always well informed Commercial Times today reported, that HTC (High Tech Computer) has received ODM orders for Windows Mobile-based smartphones from Sony Ericsson (you know - the guys behind Symbian-based UIQ), which will market the new smartphone in the second half of 2008. Volume shipments of the smartphone - Sony Ericsson's first Windows Mobile-based smartphone and HTC's first ODM orders from a first-tier handset vendor - are expected to top over one million units"

I don't suppose they designed it, although they may have designed the internals - but it's no surprise that they're making it, or at least it shouldn't be. They have the expertise which SE lacks in Windows Mobile, and they've been known for some time to be working with SE. If you were paying attention to the rumour mill, you knew an SE Windows Mobile phone was coming, and that it would be built by HTC. The surprise is that it's been announced now, with no hint of a spy pic or specification beforehand.

Personally, I'm impressed so far - as someone that left SE's ailing smartphones for a HTC Tytn II last year, this could well be my next upgrade - a serious piece of WM-powered kit with SE style. Of course, it's all in the timing - SE/HTC need to get this onto the market soon, because it's not so far ahead of the rest that it couldn't just be trumped by HTC and other's own Winmo devices by the time it comes out.

Incidentally, I wouldn't be at all surprised if this was based on similar internals to the Tytn II. With the right driver support etc (which they should have in place by now) the Qualcomm chipset should be quite capable of driving a device like this.

thanks for that! I think 256mb would great considering the 500MHz CPU

Once in the past it was a big news when the first tri-band GSM phone was announced: GSM 900/1800/1900. A true world phone!

But now XPERIA™ X1 is 8-band phone!!!

GSM/GPRS/EDGE 850/900/1800/1900
UMTS/HSDPA/HSUPA 900/1700/1900/2100 MHz

(or UMTS/HSDPA/HSUPA 850/1700/1900/2100 MHz)

Wow.. Really wow

it does actually.

Well,

It is a Super piece of kit - absolute Genius on Sony Ericsson's Part - kudos to Sony Ericsson!

We are looking at a release in April/May/June timeframe - expect some pricing structures announced in the near future.

DVD Quality Video, on a 3 Inch Screen - if its anything like the OneSeg service in Japan - we have a Winner on our hands!!

Either way, the X1 is going to be a hit with Serious Windows Mobile Users - and now, with all the windows gubbings inside, Apple, Sony Ericsson is out to get you, they'll locate and Mow you down!!

If Sony Ericsson launch the X1 anywhere within their specified timeframe (Usually we see handsets available anywhere from mid April onward) - It will be available for my Japanese stay!

Oh yeah, off topic slightly - C902, SO902i

Enjoy the Xperia X1 - I know James Bond will, after all - this is bound to be his next gadget!

the press release says "The Sony Ericsson XPERIA™ X1 will be available in selected markets from the second half of 2008." which could mean anything from July to December

Posted by leerichards
Yeah, hopefully though it will be closer to July than it is to December. I can't remember the case with the iPhone, but it's a shame SE aren't able to follow the example of Apple with regard to their other products, i.e. they announce it on a Friday, and it's in the shops on Monday morning.

Still expecting the X1 to be very expensive, so for the moment I'm still planning on getting a G900. Plenty of time to change my mind though

Peter Kay; I doubted you! And I was wrong and you were VERY spot on with accurate information. Hoping that you understand with such VAGUE posts and keeping us to believe you had inside information - its VERY hard to believe you in that regard since you never mentioned that you were bounded by NDA disclosure. Furthermore; I then began to believe that it WAS possible you had inside information because on an older thread I had the VERY last post to the effect saying "All SE needs to do is check the blgos and fan sites of informational posts leaking details and then check the location of said posters and BOOM they can pretty much deduce the source of their leak. At that time you barely posted ANY info in such an abrupt manner. So my apologies for calling you out.

Hey man, no hard feelings here

The information i try to give is just a taster for you guys and a few hints here and there, i cannoy just give the specs out due to restrictions but hopefully many will agree with what was disclosed.

Now, i won't be posting in the P5i rumours thread (due to people calling me names) but i will say that they will also beleive me by Wednesday evening

WOW, yesterday was awesome

yeah, X1 IS awesome...and i hope that the new P will be too!

im following this whole thing since last year but there were no close hints from PK °-°" thanks for P1 but nothing to x1

Very pretty...SE can't actually release a UIQ device with this kind of hardware then(oh yes, more waiting)?? :\\

Also, what about TV OUT function(long overdue)?? Stereo speakers - or is it not that multimedia-based(yet - hooray - it actually HAS a 3.5mm jack)??

Well, at least the XDA devs will have it cracked, hacked, and eating fish through a hoop within days......

I'd like to see this running on my TyTN II!

Posted by Aware
Would be funny! Thanks mass!

NOT that I'm saying TyTN could/couldn't handle it...however, you know it's just a front end as well as I do......

Tbh, the comment was more about simlocks/branding - but we both know XDA Devs can come up with a lot more than just that, don't we??

Posted by Trev1982
so i guess we could out this on the X1 right (fingers crossed)

crappy move with SE not including 5mp cam and GPS... I know that's a interfering with the P5 target group of buyers, but, cmon...

Posted by >500
it has gps!

and who knows, the 3.2mp may be comparible to some of the 5mp cam phones we have now. remember, mp just increases size, not always 'quality'

Posted by Trev1982
yer its not about mp's, its the quality of the camera that will be more of a positive

Posted by anonymuser
3.2 is perfectly good; the P5 will need a LOT more than just a 5mp cam to tempt people away from the X1.

My guess is that the P5 will break away from the more traditional P series lineage and be much more of a total multimedia phone - maybe it'll sport SE's first 16m colour screen, be much more video-centric, and have a totally redesigned "groovy" new UIQ interface. What it won't be is the business companion of old P series - that's now embodied by the X1. It's pointless for SE to be making business phones with UIQ when they've got Windows Mobile in their own arsenal - WM is simply better for business.

Stills/Video- I expect average stills, but very good 30fps video. Will the stills be anything like the K800i?

'This morning I had my first 30 seconds with yesterday's announced Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1 Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional smartphone, Sony Ericsson will release later this year.
http://www.theunwired.net/?it[....]a-x1-windows-mobile-smartphone

As you can see in the video bellow, Sony Ericsson added their own user interface on top of Microsoft's original Windows Mobile user interface, quite similar what HTC does with TouchFLO.
This means that the user interface is present on the first level only and after all applications are based on Windows Mobile, as you might expect it anyway:'

SEE LINK FOR BRIEF VIDEO OF X1 IN USE

'You will noticed in the video, that the device seems to be somewhat slow - sometimes. Sony Ericsson promised that this will be fixed with the release device, especially because the 520 MHz Qualcomm CPU should be powerful enough and Sony Ericsson also told me they will take benefit from the graphics hardware acceleration as available for Qualcomm chips.'

There are minor disappointments like 3.2mp (actually that's the only one I can spot right now, I'm not too fussy on screen colour as long as it's as crystal clear as my P990 which I'm sure will be outperformed by a wvga screen), but I think it's the sort of thing that needs to be sacrificed for the greater good, perhaps it might be too feature packed to be affordable. From my experience with Ericsson & SE, they've always applied quality components in their devices unlike some other manufacturers and if we expect them to start taking on this tradition again, naturally something's gotta give. Well I'm just trying to be rational again after flipping on the HSDPA-less G902.
