according the earlier releases, the list should be ok imo... but it doesnt mean, that certain devices can be released sooner as listed, right?

+1 Q1 2009 can be changed to Q2 2009. But not earlier.

Well, obviously the list is updated to fit the release dates and expiration dates of old products. If a product was postponed, then the list gets changed.

One other thing that should be striking people is the fact that the difference in time between announcement date and release date is exactly one year. It's clear that SE has yet to know anything in details (due to Microsoft being slow about announcing the OS), and have just put that date to fill the chart.

Posted by deuxani
Exactly my thoughts Mizzle, the date ain't a coincidence, they've just posted it by lack of a real date.

Posted by Astral1
This is getting boring now, guys.
I wish for all these pissing contests to stop, and to get some decent real information to appear in this thread.

I signed up to ESATO because it was the best SE site i could find. It seems to be more and more populated by insecure youngsters who seem to need to prove themselves to their peers.

I know whos information i trust, and i am content with that, but most of the pages i have to read are filled with drivel.

I suppose my choice is to move on, or not. c'est la vie.

"A table of release dates dug up on Sony Ericsson's own site suggests something powerfully depressing, which is that the XPERIA X1 has been pushed all the way out to February 10, 2009 (notice that the date is in European format -- we'd just give up now if it were actually October 2, 2009). While the presence of the page on the company's very own domain is pretty damning evidence, we're still holding out hope that it's a typo or an oversight; late Q2 of '08 was mentioned at MWC, and we really don't see how it's possible to push out a phone nearly three-quarters of a year just weeks after its initial announcement. Please tell us we're right on this one, Sony Ericsson. Please."

In a statement issued to T3.com this lunchtime Senior UK Marketing Manger Richard Dorman tell us: "X1 will, as previously communicated, launch during 2H 2008. Any other information is merely rumours and speculation."

...and I personally had a chat with Aldo Liguori (Corporate Vice President of the Global Communications and PR department) at earlier today, and he confirmed that it was launching in H2 2008, as I have been telling everyone.

I quote:

I can confirm that we will be launching the X1 product in 2nd Half of 2008, as per our announcement of 10th February that we made in Barcelona

Posted by hgautam
Ok guys. I had again gone to the expo at it was the last day and I wanted to try X1 once more as this is the last chance for me to try it before release.

For your information I asked the representatives about it's release date and price. They said it will launch in September and the estimated price will be Rs 30,000 to Rs 35,000. I assume it will be 35 only and not 30.

35,000 Indian rupees equal to 875 US Dollars or around 675 Euros.

I also used the camera. The screen resolution made the pics look really really sharp. Even the colors and contrast of the pictures was perfect but when it saved the pics it's cam driver brightened it too much.

Choose Thailand from that list at "handy info" and check the dates of X1... Nice, huh

Can't. By now, it requires me to log-in if I want any info from this site.

it's a WM device. What do you mean by flash? Flash animations in menu? Flash Macromedia on webpages? Plays Flash Lite animations?

AFAIK the menu won't support flash animations nor will this phone be modifiable through far, xs++ etc. However menu mods will be available through the usual WM menu enhancements. (SPB etc)

Does WM6 support Flash in webpages? Don't know.

yes was refering to macromedia flash in web pages.

yes and simple flash games/apps and stuff

i can see htc announcing a similar phone and as usual with better specs and releasing it well b4 we see this xperia or shall we say p990the sequel

Posted by max_wedge
Well, I know for sure, neither Opera Mini, Pocket IE (WM5 or earlier), nor Netfront, support flash natively. There is a flash plugin for WM5 (and presumably 6) - I tried it on youtube but youtube keeps forcing me to view the mobile version of youtube, not the full version.

Apparently, the browser in N95 supports flashlite 2.0, but normal flash webpages don't translate well to flashlite.

From what I can see, there are no mobile browsers on the market (apart from safari in the iphone - which doesn't have HSDPA ro even 3G!) that can display flash pages properly.

@Max

Actually the Nokia N95 8gb has Flash Lite 3.0 so you can watch the full YouTube site straight from the browser and is the fisrt Mobile devcie to have it.

Cool, good to know. One thing I'll be happy to admit, Nokia are leading the pack (not including iphone) in the native browser wars.

My brother in law is finding that his N95 browser does a pretty good job but still turns to opera mobile for somethings that the N95 just can't do (log in to his banking site for example). I'd be keen to try out the N95 8GB browser to compare.

Point of note on Opera Mini, some things the N95 browser can't do, I can do on my K800 using Opera Mini! So I am pegging some hope on Opera Mini being a credible cross platform solution for internet browsing. Opera Mini certainly improves the internet experience on my WM5 device (Pocket IE is pretty crap). And the Opera proxy is getting better all the time.

I just saw ASUS ZX1, and it's specs are well suited for an XPERIA competitor(including the WM 6.1 OS ), and it'll be released on may. but still XPERIA interface is like no other

Its a big drain though on resources and the hardware solution of the n95 8gb isnt really suitable. Th

Anyway enough of the release date for the X1. When will we get to see some proper hands on demonstrations of the phone further than just 1 or 2 menus?

I used a HTC S730 today and really like the whole slide out side keypad form factor.

BE WARNED....its not nice to should. Also......I dont give a flying feck. X1 is a great phone even if it is WM.

At the end of the day if you like WM devices anyway you will love this. For the rest of us we will just have to get used to it. To be honest I can get used to any type of OS, anyone should. And the only app i ever use is messenger the whole "oh no its WM" doesnt really bother me.

Posted by whentheleveebreaks
i like WM, should run great on the X1

Hi everyone!

http://www.amobil.no/artikler[....]elefon_fra_sony_ericsson/49307

This was on a norwegian mobile-site (the best) It says: "Is this a new X-model from SE?"

There is a picture of a x-like phone wich seemingly has a bigger screen than the XI. They ask: "Is it reel or fake"

I don't know!:-) Judge yourselfe....

Posted by bavlondon2
I thought that was a photoshop.

I wonder what is Sony Ericsson hinting?

thanks for the pics.

As usual with SE, that affect they have of combining form and function into a hideously ugly yet exhilleratingly different design. Aka S700, K700, K850, W900 etc.

I love it

Nice pics.

OK Can you not comment on the general interface of it?

I love it!

Not completely X1 related, but as many of you know, Asus and Lamborghini has made their phone ZX1. It is a Windows Mobile 6.1 based phone. Notice in this video taht the user interface is COMPLETELY different. This can mean Sony Ericsson X1 might have a consistant Xperia Panel UI rather than regular Windows Mobile.

ZX1's UI is probably the Carousel interface as mentioned from Wikipedia. it seems like 6.1 is like a 6.0 with a WM7 interface and it highly resembles the beryl interface seen on Ubuntu linux OS. seems like microsoft choosed to rather copy the 3D cube from Beryl instead of their very own AERO UI.

and since ZX1 has shown some the internals of the WM6.1 UI, can we now see the entire UI of the X1? i wanted to see the XMB UI mroe further and how the panels work further as well

Does this device have real handwriting recognition like that provided with the IPAQ's? or is it like that on the P series up to now?

Does the HWR system work in both "closed" and "open" modes?
What is the WM Media Player like?

I liked the HWR system on my old IPAQ BUT disliked shocking battery life, constantly hanging OS and poor media support. Have these issues been addressed in the version of WM supplied with the X1.

Posted by masseur
almost certainly the answers to these questions will be that it used the existing windows mobile inputs and existing WMP.

since getting keyboards on my windows mobile devices I almost never use handwriting any more, but it was more than acceptable though I did use to use caligrapher

As for WM stability, I'll assure you that since WM5 its been very stable and I almost never hit the soft reset button any more unlike the old days which was 2-3 times a day

I was just checking on the site can see no mention of upgradeable storage, the ESATO Phone page gives no mention of additional storage just 400Mg phone storage! Is this correct? if so bye bye X1

One other worry is there is no mention of "fast port" does this mean yet another type of charger for home and car? if so can forget it!

On SE website,
MicroSD support

Posted by masseur
the press release mentions micro SD support

Posted by Nitro Fan
Thanks guys

So to recap have decided their loyal (and patient) customers who buy the SEX1 ( a misnomer) will now have to buy:

All new storage media (they could have adopted standard media a long-time ago!)

All new chargers (why intro fast port then?)

All new application SW (I was right, their developers do not have clue about writing decent SW, so move to WM)

And we are supposed to be getting excited? what a joke, This is pushing my tolerance and loyalty just a bit too far.

yup. certainly am.

but I'll review that when the X1 actually gets close to becoming available when I see what else is on the market

fortunately I already have micro SD's (8gb) bought for my TyTN II and K850, I also have several mini USB chargers and sync/charge cables and plenty of free and paid apps that I already use daily
