Needing an upgrade (for some time) - Time to leave Orange?

My current phone is a W800 which Ive had since Aug 2005. I haven't seen an appropriate upgrade since Ive had it (bar W810 - which I didn't go for at the time since it didn't seem like much of an upgrade).

Im kinda hung up on candbar phones and after the W800 I wanted a phone of similar style whilst not wanting anything LESS than the camera it had (2MP + AF).

Seen lots of phones pass me by and then I saw W960 and LOVED it. I can't wait any longer (my W800 is packing up!).

Sadly Orange UK (whom Ive been with for 10 years) have screwed with me and after waiting so long turns out they don't seem to want to offer the W960 (or my backup plan: the N95 8GB!)

So, in your wise opinion, is it time to ditch Orange and move to O2 or Vodaphone (thoughts welcome on this please - only ever been with Orange) OR
Is it likely that such a phone matching the above specs will show up on the horizon in the next couple of months?

Would be a shame to leve Orange since Ive got that "Select 500" deal but if I must, I must.

Any help/sympthay (:D) will be greatly appreciated.

O2 they offer best value quality network and coverage also their handsets have no or minimal branding on. Plus their customer services are the best. Never had one problem with them. I used to swear by no one but Orange but these days they offer nothing.

Same Hear. Was with Orange for 8 years. Over 45-55 £ a month spend.

When come to want a new phone It was oh no we dont rewared customers like you any more, only new customers.

So i said run and jump, then got retentions, said i could have anything i wanted, too late went to o2.

Superb service.

Had 2 new phones in 9 months and bought a 3rd one at a discount price, which doesnt affect my upgrade.

Customer care is a1+ as well.

Also If you are on contract, your sms bundle works for sending mms as well. and if you are aborad, you get to use your bundle to send sms and mms back to the uk for free.

How good is that

I'm hearing reports left, right and centre of Orange being awful, but I've yet to experience it first hand?

Retentions on Orange should sort you out, if not write a wee letter to Orange Exec office and they will sort it...

I think it all depends on your usage though.. I've only been an Orange personal customer for about 2 years and I've never had any issues, it sometimes takes a trip to carphone to get the phone you want, but at least you end up with a sim free phone..

i would give retentions a blast though.. Leeboy13 on here gets 3000 mins and 3000 texts for £25, I get 18 month Dolphin 35 for £25 on a 12 month contract, and that was only after 3 months since my last upgrade...

it does sometimes take a little persuasion though, Orange premier couldn't/wouldn't help me so I had to go to Orange exec but credit where credit is due, they sorted it as quickly as possible...

I always think of it, better the devil you know...

but I'm Orange through and through, worked for the buggers for 6 years..

if orange exec team can't sort you out. Then get ur PAC code and hop on aboard the o2 bandwagon lol. Best deals are on the o2 website. Check out the latest offers from o2 I am sure ul agree the tariffs can't be beaten, unless u get some great retentions deal. And with o2 u get priority tickets for the o2 arena and lots of promotions they are offering with English rugby and arsenal lol. But trust me u won't be dissapointed with o2. Join the network thats the biggest in the UK

@fatreg, why should he have to go to all that trouble to get a upgrade though.

I had the same problem, until i went through to retention then got offered the world, i could have the phone mins, sms and at a much lover price. but it took me 45 mins of trying to get thorugh, (Which is ruddy anoying too)

When i got mny pac code, i got 2 calls from orange asking my i was leaving, as i was " Such a loyal customer " Well yes i spent alot of money, bills when i went on holiday once twice a year averaged £100 - £200 +

Before i was speaking to Orange Retention, I was even told by the Orange shop where i live and 2 orange customer care, i would suggest going to another network as you wont get that with us.

I was also sick on tired of my contract being wrong and spoke to like crap, some shops as well.

Dont get me wrong I was a Orange person through and through, put all my friends and family on there, but they were all getting the same problems as me, poor customer care and so on.

But if you think its just me, why are Orange now 4th biggest network, they lost lots and lots of customers in last 2 years, all the threads moan and complain about them, I still here it to this date.

You should not have to go to all this trouble to get a phone

My friend who spends £25 a month a knows hes not a big spender was 18 months into his 12 month contract. He saw a new phone that was £89.99 on PAYG with orange and free on every new contract.

When he asked Orange he was told he would have to pay £99 for the phone and go onto a 18 month contract.

He then spoke to Retention who said best offer was £59.99, however the person even said, sorry but you are not the people Orange want.

** Im not say orange is all bad, there 3g network is very good indeed. One of the best i know. I was always credited calls back when they lost the call, not too often as well.

Customer care for the first 5-6 years were superb, best i knew. They couldnt do enough for you, you got a personal service. I was always extremely happy with them and they won award after award for customer care.

However sorry to say thats gone, I cant remember when Orange last wond the cusotmer care award and the problem is now all the other networks have caught up with orange and passed them with some speed.

O2 and virgin won customer care award i beleive last year and previous years.

I was with orange for over eight years until i moved to 02 last month. phoned orange to ask for my pac code and they gave it to me and didn't even try to get me to stay! eventually someone called and i told them their data deals were rubbish and i was going to 02. they said no problem and that was that. gotta great deal online and have had no problems so far. 02 customer service seems very good as well. glad i moved.

I believe at the present time orange are currently testing the W960i & if all goes well it could be available end of the month.

Guys thanks for all your help!

I'd rather not leave Orange, probably because Ive never had any real trouble with them. However, my problem is that Ive become so damn picky on my phone choice. I did kinda set my heart on W960 or if not the N95 8GB. Orange lack of either is what is makin me flighty.

I must say, if it is true that Orange are indeed preparing this phone for their catelogue, I will give them another month... (unless my W800 finally dies!)

Im gonna have to go for a slightly more expensive deal with O2 (£35) to get the phone for £59 or else Im practically buying the phone. Vodaphone have cheap deals (for the phone) but I haven't heard so much praise for them.

If you've been reading up on Vodaphone on this forum then you are gonnabe put of by what other members say, some are just moaning about idiotic things like Logos and Firmware branding.

There Customer service is good!
I left 02 after 8 years and have been with Vodafone nearley 3mths.

Thing is it's good to change,
I used to think 02 were the bee's knees once upon a time but after seeing what Vodaphone's services do they make 02 look like something in th dark ages still!

it's your call anyway
I hope you manage to get a deal with 0range otherwise im sure you will pick the good service with some other provider

If you haven't upgraded/left Orange already but check out the Orange website, don't know how long its been advertised already (a couple days max i think) but Orange are now showing both the N95 8GB & the N82 Black in their 'coming soon' section Hoorah!!!

Cheers
