"We'd heard reports from E90 owners in the past that the keyboard has a bit of a fatal flaw: it's high enough to touch the screen when the handset's closed, transferring whatever your nasty hands left on the keys to the display. We're now hearing that a "v2" model has started to circulate with a totally redesigned QWERTY board, though, that fixes the issue by making the whole thing flush (check out the picture). Any hold-outs going to reconsider buying into the Communicator craze now with this revelation?"

Boba, Didn't this all happen months ago?
Posted by BobaFett
its a fresh news actually...
Posted by Nanu
What I mean is the alterations were made months ago and the revised handset was released months ago, making the news itself quite old!
Posted by dicky
Nanu's correct
This happened ages ago
Posted by dicky
it would be nice if Nokia replaced the handsets of those who purchased E90s from the original batch, or is that asking too much
Posted by Nanu
Have you asked them?

DICKY, I HAVE THE 'OLDER' thtc touch version, the one with 64meg of ram.... i was hoping too that they would upgrade mine to the newer 128meg version....
but it aint gonna happen....

Lee please . . . . . . . WTF??
You can't compare lack of memory to a design fault!

Haven't asked them but doubt they would. Especially now that mine is a few months old and well used.
Have heard of someone on the nokia offical forum complaining and getting hs replaced, after a few weeks of moaning to top level.
It doesn't really bother me too much, although a new phone would be nice

Just to clear out:
This hardware upgrade was indeed months ago, actually around october-november 2007. I did have owned the first batch initially, the one with no eliviated side, and the buttons did make a lot of scratches on the screen (my screen protector arrived too late to prevent that). Afterwards, I swapped my old E90 to a new one now with this uplift of lower inner side. Although I had put on the scr protector immediately after acquiring the phone in my hands, no inner keyboard grease marks or scratches were observed onwards.
As for free upgrade, Nokia does this in most countries at no extra charge. Alas, it takes them a week or two to do it.

Hi all,
Although this is being touted as a version two of the E90 it is just one example of where all the keys are now the same height. My first E90 suffered from grease marks on the screen my latest one which is a later build actually MAY 07 after Nokia stopped shipping them and fixed the problem doesn't leave any marks on the screen at all it also has no rattles or creaks as reported on the the very first batch before they were recalled and stopped shipping.
So whilst this is a slight variation in design the problem it alleges to resolve is already fixed a long time ago now which is why no one is really sure why they have done it. As i said only the first released early batch suffered from this problem the newest ones just don't any more. Dicky if your has a problem a Nokia Service Centre should fix it for you under warranty and free of charge.

hey guys,
just thought id let you know.
i sent my E90 back to Nokia, as i had one of the original releases with the keyboard/ casing issue.
and they swapped it out for a new one without any hassle at all!

Hi Dicky,
Good news but i never doubted that they would as it was a recognised fault and what they said they would do, what differences have you noticed if any? did they change the case or keyboard? or both or have you not noticed any difference? As just changing the screen wouldn't of fixed the problem just sorted the damage out.

^ dickys phone is all boxed up again, the inside screen doesn't work!
ooops!
Posted by dicky
unfortunately reggie's right.
Went to set it up last night, opened the internal screen, and it was horribly distorted, and when the flip is moved it gets worse / turns off completley.
So i've sent it off again, bit annoyed. But nokia's turn around time is pretty good. So it should be sorted in around a week

@Dicky,
Ouch that's not good and the disadvantage of not being able to take and collect it in person, mind you it pails into comparison to poor Fatreg and his constantly vanishing BB to repairs.

thats true!
the screen did seem a bit loose so maybe something happened during shipping. Although it was packed very well.
heres a picture of the screen
