Hi,

I'm a regular reader here but now i'm faced with a bit of a problem and hope you can help.

I noticed the other day that there was quite a lot of dust on the glass of the camera lens. I came across a link to a site showing how to disassemble the k850i (somewhere on this forum). So i ordered a T5 screwdriver and when it arrived I got to work and tried to unscrew the T5 screws.

Unfortunately I bought the cheapest screwdriver I could find and the screwdriver became blunt almost straight away and has seemed to have taken the thread of the screw head with it. Now when I turn the screwdriver it just turns freely. I'm worried that i'll never be able to get this screw out.

It must be in pretty tight to be so hard to turn, does anyone have any ideas on how I might be able to get this out? I was thinking of buying a more expensive screwdriver which wouldn't go blunt at the end, can anyone recommend where I can get one of these? Finally, if I do ever get this screw out does anyone know where I can get a replacement T5 screw, they seem to be hard to find.

Thanks very much for your help in advance!

Alex

i shouldnt do that.....the warranty (2 years) dissapear if you do it yourself and if something bad happends.

leave it to your local work shop instead, ITS FREE, GOES UNDER THE WARRANTY..(i know 2 guys here on Esato who did that in my hometown...cost nothing

ps..i actually asked the owner of the works shop what kind of Torx screwdrivers they used..they where "special-made" something.
this cheap screwdrivers can sometimes mess upp the screws realy bad.

i had the exact same problem, I used a dremmel drill to get mine out, but another solution is to get a normal flathead screwdriver set, one of the sizes will fit perfectly, the screws will be in tightly but if your careful then you should be able to get them out no bother.

I don't know if there are many SE workshop's near me, so if it's a massive drive it would be quite costly.

If I was to use a flat head screw driver do you know what size it would need to be? The smallest I have is a 1.5x50mm which is too big (its more like a T6/T7 size.

Thanks for the advice.

I'm probably talking out of the wrong end here, as I've never owned a K850i, let alone had a K850i apart, but do they not have T6 screws, as this seems to generally be the standard screw size?

The other thing you could try is if you have a T6 Torx screwdriver is to try that in your worn screw thread. Sometimes there's just enough left of the screwhead to get the screw out. What I do (and often it works) is to push the screwdriver into the worn screw head fairly hard, and then use small, almost jerky movements to try to get the screw to budge without the screwdriver spinning uselessly in the head making it even more worn. It's hard to describe, but basically keep doing this and stop if you start to feel the screwdriver spinning rather than unscrewing the screw.

I hope that makes sense!
