1) Mock the name and expect nothing.
2) The 'unlimited' packages on pay monthly (provided you're on a tariff from 1st Feb onwards, if not, you can change to one) are just that, unlimited, provided you're using the handset to browse and not using it as a modem for your PC. Pay as you go, as far as I'm aware, doesn't have unlimited browsing? It's just the £1 per day cap, I can't remember them mentioning unlimited 'net on pay as you go.
3) It's just you with the problem. It seems not a single sole in the world, any phone or O2 service, has it, but you. So please for all our sakes, leave O2 and stop dragging the name through the mud with these claims that mysteriously seem to only be affecting you

Evry1 on payango has the problem. Ive been told 3 times over the phone by customer service. Including a guy in charge (forgot what his official title is) im just bringin this problem out in the open. It seems your not "in the know" as you think you are"

Well you're the only person I've ever heard it from, so makes you wonder doesn't it.....

O2 says 128Kb/s is all its 3G customers need
http://www.theregister.co.uk/2008/04/09/o2_speed_limits/
Posted by masseur
yeah, there's been a discussion on going about this at 3g forum and I was just reading the link from there to TheRegister when you posted...
its true, however, that you can just call o2 and ask to be put onto the full speed 3g. I did that and they did it without question
Posted by imazz
@masseur
I'm not a business customer on O2, do you think it's still worth asking them? Can't help thinking they will not know what I am talking about!
Do you use O2 Active APN or O2 mobile web APN settings?
Posted by masseur
I'm also not a business customer with o2
I use the o2 mobile settings
Posted by Alpha Trion
.....are O2 having a REALLY bad week?
Firstly i notice (as a lot other people on various forums have) the N82 has been misteriously withdrawn?
Next it finally becomes fact that O2 limit their 3G service to 128kb/s (which i think is downright criminal).....and now this!
http://www.theregister.co.uk/2008/04/09/o2_accidental_call/
Now i had as good as made my mind up to join O2 with N82 in may when my orange contract expires but in the light of all these issues and if they don't get it sorted before may (especially the slow data speed. What's the point in owning a HSDPA capable phone when your network won't support it??) then O2 will have definately lost my custom
I am in shock
Posted by Daedalus85
lol, to be perfectly frank, I actually agree with those guys at O2, and I would have said the same thing
Think about it, yes all of you on here want the best from your tech, but in the huge grand scheme of things, you're a teeny tiny percentage of the mobile phone market. I do think that yes, O2 should bump up the speed for everyone, but I understand why they've done it. We're under really heavy pressure from Ofcom to up our 3G coverage, and their working on it pretty hard, but to stop the current 3G network collapsing whilst their doing that, it kinda makes sense to keep people tied down for a bit.
Look at the mobile market as a whole, you guys make up a tiny portion of it, and you guys want fast data. Fine, call them up, you'll get it. However, look at everyone else and how THEY use data, I bet you they a) don't have two figs what 128kbps means and b) they don't give two flying monkeys what it means anyway. As far as their concerned, they've got internet on their phone and their content.
Think about the big customer picture and a business point of view, not just people who use it like yourselves.

yeah, I'm not impressed and as soon as I move on from the non-3g iPhone to either the 3g one, or some other, then I'll prob head back to t-mob

Hi all
Well i have to say i feel very lucky that 02 totally mucked up my E90 order whilst taking my money 2 weeks before the intended dispatch of my device contrary to what they said they would do. As feel i have had a really lucky escape and personally feel this behavior is outrageous especially as it has taken some to discover rather than 02 being up front about it, their Data plans don't look so good now do they especially if you have a HSDPA handset.
What is worse is the way the are saying to all their users that spend less than £35 pm you are 2nd rate users, i hope many of them churn now to Networks where they are treated better and get what they pay for.

I'm still in a job, O2 aren't going anywhere soon, do I look bovvered?
Kidding
Posted by Alpha Trion
@Daedalus85
I kinda agree with what your saying but what services do most (the big 5 anyway)
now provide:
Calls,
Texts & now
Data.
Using the same phone & same pm account could i pay for my calls & texts on O2 but pay for my Data usage via Orange say? NO. I'd still have to suffer O2's data package/rates.
So if another network offers the same Calls & texts packages as O2 (which they all offer about the same these days) but offers better data usage pm/unrestricted speed etc where are you going to go....exactly!
As if the whole 'unlimited' thing isn't a bit of an 'exaggerated' con, you're limited '3G' data use is capped @128kb/s?
Posted by DCUK7
The main problem is that if you call them up to be put on the "full speed" option, that still means HSDPA-enabled phones aren't running at full speed!
Also, given that EDGE can achieve speeds not far off 384Kbps (plus Nokia say they can double the speed of EDGE with a software update to the basestation), their 3G isn't as cutting edge as they would like you to think!

Just how fast is 3.5g?
it works on Vodafone really well,
what im finding though is £25 data charges when my bloomin phones ment to be connected to Wi-Fi, it's somehow swapping connections!
btw Edge is ok for you 02 users why moan?,
Greggy I was using my mothers Z310i on 02's Prepay service for longer then 10mins and it never cut off!
I think you should change your sim card!
Posted by Greggy
no i mean when your downloading a file! the download stops around 10mins

Ignore him Kerry, it seems to be just him with this 'problem'
Posted by Miss UK
Greggy still get a new sim card there free anyway
lol im knda glad I left 02 looking at the above issue,
I couldn't even tell my phone was connected to what looking at the charges,
btw I found the reason out, my virgin media went down and my phone resorted to Voda live and I didn't even no
ive just added the data add on incase it happens again,
Vodafone kept telling me I don't use enough to have it on my account,
hence there way of making money I think
the 3.5g is really fast though,
Voda live works perfect on the N95-2 aswell alot better then the E65 was!

U need to get ya facts right. Ive been told by a guy at an o2 shop that all payango users have this 10min cut off coz they use a proxy. Contract users dont and use a different way of connecting. OK!!! END OF ARGUMENT!!

Please, for the sake of the other 17m+ customers we have, leave our network, we shall not miss you really...
Seriously, all you do is moan and moan and moan about it, so bloody leave us then!

Waiting for O2 to THROW you off their network? Please, just leave O2 instead of bad mouthing them to everyone even though you won't leave them, they must be doing SOMETHING right for you...
Posted by Miss UK
Greggy just try another sim card or as people keep advising you to leave the 02 network try T-Mobile innit!

10 minute download is about 7.7MB on a 3G phone on O2 (128kbs for 10minutes). Thats a big file to be downloading to a mobile. Can't say I have ever downloaded a file bigger than a few hundred kbytes.
Posted by Daedalus85
And I'm still waiting to win the lottery, you know what we have in common? Never gonna happen!
Posted by Greggy
whats never guna happen? i asked if any1 on payngo dosnt get cut off after 10mins lol

Give me one good reason why you're STILL with O2 then? If their causing you THAT much greif...
Posted by Mr Miyagi
greggy do you suffer from ADD(attention deficit disorder) when it comes to o2?
just curious, some people can be like that.
Posted by Miss UK
I thought this topic was to discuss 02's what its not Greggy's problem with this 10min cut off!
btw Greggy we've told you to get a new sim card,
otherwise move your number to another network!
Posted by Daedalus85
I think he's already tried a new sim before :/
Posted by Greggy
So wheres all these people on payngo that dosnt get cut off when downloading? Il repeat payngo users use a proxy to browse and download and theres a 10minute (ish) cut off when downloading. Contract users dnt have that problem because they dnt use a proxy

I think you have successfully proved you are the only one with the problem.
Well done!

Yeah, online then phone then in person
Usually quite friendly, so lets hope they say yes

Can you advise what excessive use is and why someone cannot use the cellphone as a modem? Seems just as cost-effective for O2?
Posted by Daedalus85
Excessive use isn't a defined answer, it's like downloading non-stop for several days, they'd get pretty pissed off and call you and ask you to stop.
In terms of the modem usage, of course its not just as cost effective! Think how much more bandwidth you'd be using, it's just not a viable option.
So no, you can't use it as a modem, we do wireless broadband for that.

I was with them for years so i know how they operate however im not going back to them Vodafone are alot better!
they unlocked myphone for free and they have waved £25 data fees cos i added the data pack.. there really good network I tell yeah!!!!
Posted by Residentevil
I'll get a Voda prepaid when I get to Germany this summer right away, so I am able to make calls in no time there.
Posted by Daedalus85
Kerry, when you see the staff tariff, I THINK you might change your mind
Posted by fatreg
^ is it still 50% normal tariffs? or have they changed it so it's more in line with Orange and 3s staff tariff?
IMO, 3s staff tariff is awesome.. free phone, free calls, free texts up to x amount a month....
Posted by Miss UK
James I pretty much doubt that btw all I need is a Sim Only next,
Vodafone can give me what ive got now for £15 or if I haggle im sure they'll give me that £12.50 deal again.
if you don't ask you never get.
exactley what they told me on there eforum
Ressy, Good choice, although they do have 02 over there I haven't a clue what there plans are like on Prepaid though,
maybe you could shop around when you go there im sure the staff could advise you of a good PAYG deal
btw Ok so rang up and got a interview for Thursday 5pm with some dude called Tom! so i'll try and make up longer answers this week, i'd much prefer a instore interview though!
cos they can't judge what your like over the phone in 20mins
in the meantime I hope the NHS get back to me about my Web Support application
Posted by Daedalus85
I'm on £20 a month, 1000 minutes, 1000 texts and unlimited calls or texts (you can change every three months) on saturday, sunday and monday (it used to be called long weekends), plus either 75MB of data or BlackBerry unlimited, on a 12 MONTH contract, but they price the phone as if it's a £35/month 18-month phone. Plus you can upgrade at month 11, like I'm doing tomorrow
Or, sim only version of the same tariff, £10 a month
Thats pretty unbeatable really.
