I insist on a hookless design for my next headset, for comfort and volume. I had a Plantronics Discovery 610 which had the unfortunate flaw of picking up more of the background than my own voice. My Jabra JX-10 was awesome, except for when the battery died (would no longer hold a charge) one week after the warranty expired. I though about the Plantronics 665 but it apparently has sound quality and battery life issues.
What else is there? Or should I wait for the Jabra JX-20?

If by "standard" you mean a compact mono unit, then yes.

Did some research and found this new gem from Jabra, the BT8040, which I just purchased from NewEgg.com for ~ $60.

I've had the best experiences with Jabra's Bluetooth products (far better than anyone else); I was quite impressed by the JX-10 (and also the SP-500 speakerphone). And it is purely an in-ear design - no mod'ing required.

How about the 'Nextlink Invisio G5'
In UK, it's priced at £40 (Carphonewarehouse). US prices should be similar.

I just bought Sony Ericsson's HBH-IV835:
Haven't tried it out yet as it needs a fresh battery charge first.

Most Samsung ones, such as the WEP 500, 510 and 300 that we have at O2 (well, the later two at least) are just earbud ones, no hook.
Also, our own O2 Blue (version 3) is an in ear one, and a good one at that as it's actually a Jabra headset this time. Theres the option of a hook in the box, but its just that, an option.

@ AbuBasim: Let me know about the fit and stability. Not to dissuade you, but a number of reviewers found that
unit's fit unstable.

I've tried it now and I find that it fits very well. I can twist and shake my head hard - much harder than when wearing my wife's HBH-610 - and it will not fall off. My only complaint so far is that the power switch is tiny and needs to be pushed inside to function, almost that I needs to use my phone's stylus for it.

I've been using my BT8040 for an hour now and so far no good. Voice dialing does not work, at least not with the K790a, even though it should be compatible according to Jabra
I'll try it over the weekend, but if I can't resolve, this, it's going back and I'm buying another JX-10. I know that one works.

First, thanks to all who responded to my voice-dialing thread. Really
http://www.esato.com/board/viewtopic.php?topic=163292
Anyway, I'm going to try an exchange for the same (BT8040). I tested my phone's voice dialing on its own, with my old Aliph Jawbone, and with my wife's Motorola H700; all worked flawlessly. My BT8040 only works sometimes, with no dicernible pattern.
And if that one doesn't work, it's a JX-10 II for sure.

The comon problem with these devices is that they consume a lot of power or battery Posted by AbuBasim

Not much to show. You just shove the end with the rubber plug into your ear

The battery power in this headset is quite good. And it has a neat feature that allow you to check current battery level: press quickly on the power button and it will blink once, twice or thrice to show low, medium or high charge.
Another neat feature I like is that it reconnects automatically to my JASJAM when making or receiving a call if the connection have broken before. Have not seen this work before.
FYI: modern Li-Ion and Li-Po batteries give better lifetimes the more often you charge them (source).

Update: Don't bother buying the IV835 if you have a P990i as this combination doesn't work at all. The headset pairs but doesn't stay connected. Works very well with the i-mate JASJAM (aka HTC TyTN) though.
