No question, X-Box, After playing on it at the ECTS world Comuter fair in London the other year, i was first in queue for one of the little babies, nothing compares, ever played Halo??? that one game in itself is worth getting an X-Box for, and they're bringing out Halo2 (also get splinter cell, it's so smart)

Lets see, what has PS2 got...
GTA:Vice City and its no doubt sequels, Metal Gear Solid, ISS Pro Soccer, Gran Turismo, Colin McRae and numerous other great rally games, Devil May Cry and its sequel and those are just ones that I have thought of in the last couple of minutes.
Another important fact is that all these games that were originally only going to be on X-Box are coming over to PS2. Why is that, if not the fact that the X-Box is not selling so well and the companies know where to come?
An example of this is Wreckless: The Yakuza Missions.
Then there is the fact that the PS2 is backwards compatible, meaning a move from PS1 to PS2 would be much more palatable than PS1 to X-Box.
Plus, you don't have to be some form of octopus to work PS2, whereas the horribly designed X-Box pad is terrible.
Also, you could actually have PS2 out and like the look of it, whereas with something that looks like a 1986 VCR in your main room you may lose friends quickly.
The only reason the X-Box hasn't gone the way of the Dreamcast and Saturn is the fact that Microsoft have so much money they are just throwing billions at it and are quite happy to lose money on every single console they buy.
And the worst thing about that is when clueless parents are asked by their children for a PS2 this Christmas, the parents could well go out, see el cheapo nasty X-Box and decide to get that instead so they save money.
I fear for those childrens future.
Get yourself a PS2. It's the only way to go.

when i first got gta vice city i sat up and played it for almost 4 days straight with about 5 hours sleep each night. one night i sat up till 6 in the mornin.

Tough choice. I have both, although the ps2 has more exclusive games, the quality of the xbox games is so much better. After playing an xbox game, it makes vice city look like a ps1 title. Not to metion the fact the xbox has a harddrive so you can listen to your own music while playing most games. Also metal gear solid is no longer ps2 exclusive as mgs2 substance is being released on both consols. The xbox is already online compatable, with lots of people beta testing at the moment, with it going online officially on march the 14th, whereas the ps2 is a fair bit off that stage and the harddrive for the ps2 might not even come out untill next year in the uk. I would recommend getting the xbox, as it is also cheaper than the ps2!!!

I have both too.But the PS2 rules with titles like Vice City and The Getaway plus an add-on for The Getaway in the future and a sequel,the X-box dont stand a chance at the moment,maybe in the future.
Anyway,when the PS3 comes out around 'Feb 2005' it'll be backward compatable with PS1 and PS2 games and the UK will see PS2 online in springtime(this year) so that aint too far away(broadband only at the moment).
Oh,and the PS2 WILL have a 40Gb HDD compared to the measly 8 or 10 that the X-box has,so Bill Gates is gonna be spending a lot of $$$$$$ before he catches up with Sony.
SO THE PS2 IS THE ONE YOU WANT.
But if you have BIG hands like nokia 7650 owners then the X-box will fit you nicely.
Nearly forgot,how compatable will your SonyEricsson phones be with the PS2 and a Linux kit,this is what i'm interested,think about it.

Lol, ps2 better than XBOX?? jokers. Everyone who has all the systems (me included) will know that XBox is way better. GTA vice city, ha ha, same game just paying 45/40 pounds for a new background and new things to do, wow??? PES is the best game for PS2, but buying PES2 is a waste of money as its the same thing as last year but now with a fake dutch squad. Xbox are getting PES this year, also with online play (Read it some-where, forgot website, was an interview with person in charge for Konami) Getaway, crap: 7/10 edge and Hitman 2 is better (XBox version).
There are many reasons why xbox is better:
Dobly Digital 5.1, damn!!!!!!! do you know how goods xbox games sound in 5.1????? Too much for ps2 (especially when comparing games out on both systems) 5.1 Sound in Halo, SC, UC, TS2, PGR, GR etc make the game even better, if you have the money i recommend you get yourself a 5.1 system as well.
Dvd playback is better on Xbox, simply as that, no more explaining.
Xbox Live, I currently have all Live games (Unreal Championship, Ghost Recon, NFL Fever 2003 etc) though i dont have a broadband connection and cant experience them online yet (cant find cheap and reliable ISP, any ideas?) they are still great games played offline and 4 player split screen.

The ps2 hard drive maybe 40gb but it cost 150 pounds!!!! You idiots are going to have to sell your ps2's to buy it (Yes i know, then you wont have nothing to use it with, that was the point fools) 8gb is enough, i hated it when i got my GC and didnt have a memory card (for RE) to save the game, had it leave it on for 2 nights so i could complete it. Oh and Gamecube is better than Ps2 anyway, wayyy better games and cheap for people who dont have deep pockets (selling mine now, with 3 games for 150, any1 interested?). Mario sunshine is better than all games on ps2 (ch4 text, 2002 charts)
Trust, if anyone (that person who asked which is better probabily has made his choice already) is going to get a games console with-in the next few weeks, make sure you get an xbox.

Let's get this straight, add-ons don't mean much. People will write games for the base machine only as it reaches the main market for a machine, not the niche few who have spent EXTRA MONEY for a piece of kit. More software will appear on X-Box this year (unless there is an exclusivity deal) as more X-Boxes are in people's homes now, software houses will not ignore this fact of demand and supply.
Hardware, X-Box is better by a far way. The graphics are simply better than the PS2 can produce, The Getaway is a good game but it looks pretty mediocre for 2003, graphically. The X-Box also loads a lot quicker thanks to the Hard drive and more memory, it is a bigger box though but is a newer machine (the PS2 being quite a bit older now).
That said, I suggest you ignore everything above!!!
Just look at the software available, see what you like and then see what machine it is available on. Make your decision based on the software you want not the hardware it sits on.

The xbox simply can't compete.
I bought xbox 3 months ago thinking it was good shit.
And it was... For about a week when I was knee deep in halo.
But then I finished halo and was about to buy a new game. went down to the store, and that was when it occured to me. THERE ARE NO GAMES WORTH MY MONEY!!!
The xbox sucks. The only reason I'm not regretting buying the xbox is that Doom 3 is coming on it. That game looks like it's gonna be good shit.
And while some of you may disagree that the games I listed aren't good. Think about this.. There are at least 3 times the amount of games available for the ps2 as for the xbox.
Every time I enter a store I see A BIG wall covered with PS2 games and a little shelf with xbox games... Hell. They often have more ps1 games than xbox games.
Not to mention how cheap Microsoft is. Requiring you to purchase a remote to be able to play dvds and an extra scart cable to allow for Digital out.
Oh and just so you know.
Newer games for the ps2(GTA:vice to name one) support multichannel sound(DTS)
So xbox no longer has any lead on the ps2 in that arena. So There
PS: I saw in a sales chart that they are selling twice as many ps2 units as xbox and gamecube put together in australia...
In japan they are actually selling more psones than xboxes(but that's japan.. xbox was doomed in japan from the beginning)

well to me speed and memory is better and the ps2 is no match in speed and memory for the xbox has both; a faster processor, more ram and faster videocard with more memory than the ps2. the money i spent on the xbox is worth it. the time is coming when there are more available games for the xbox this year so just wait. it was just like when the ps1 first came out with less games to choose from and i have tried the ps2 too. the japs are good but the yanks are better.

Go for the PS2. They have realesed loads of games to it, you will for sure find many games that you like. The Xbox, its cheaper, atleast here in sweden, but you dont have to much to choose betwen. The only game Xbox owners mention is Halo when they talking about how great and mighty theyr (ugly)box are.
