Not only Tata..two other Indian car makers Maruti and Bajaj are coming up with their own Rs 1 Lakh variants.

If these cars sell well (which no doubt they will), then this trend could soon follow in other developing countries of the world...

Apparantly these will also be launched in europe at some point.and here is why its so cheap!

it's a death trap!

£1290? What a cheap car. The opposite end of the scale to their prospective new aquasition, Jaguar and Land Rover.

Crashes in India don't seem to happen, at least in Mumbai. Even though the roads are mayhem compared to here I only saw one "crash" over the time I was there. They can't go fast enough to crash! (not the car, the driver!)

Thats the ugliest thing I have ever seen!!

This is hilarious... Who copied who?

We have in this thread the Nano, with a name directly related to iPods:

Now take a look at this Mitsubishi:

Pretty similar huh? Yep, same shape, and roughly the same size. The Mitsubishi is cheap, but not as cheap. Its faster and of course safer.

And what's its name? ...i-Car!

So what's going on there?
