Hi guys, I'm new to the forum so first let me say a big hello to everyone
SE K550i, £50
SE K800i, £80
Samsung D900i, £80
I was hoping people would be kind enough to give me their opinions on all these phones as I really can't decide between them. For example, I like the price of the K550i and it certainly beats my current phone, but the camera on the K800i is amazing, while the D900i takes better videos. The K550i and D900i have EDGE but I read somewhere that the K800i doesn't? Any help, pointers or experiences with these phones would be much appreciated. Also, if there are any other good phones I've missed (for less than £100) please let me know. Thanks in advance

get the k800i, it has the best camera out of the 3, it has 3g which is faster than edge and it's easyer to use than the d900, the d900's gui is a bit werid and as my mate found out the screen cracks easy and built quality isn't that great and the loud speaker is awful, and the 3mp cam isn't as good as the k800i's

First off, hello and welcome to Esato
You are right about the k800i not having EDGE although it does have 3G instead, which is alot faster than EDGE data on the other two phones. IMO you would be best with the k800 due to best stills camera and good all round features and design. Unless either video, price or form-factor are important points here I would advise you to buy a k800 from the three phones suggested

Thanks for your advice and the warm welcome
Form factor isn't important, everyone likes a nice looking phone but it's not the end of the world if it's a bit ugly, and I prefer functionality to looks any day.
Price isn't too important as I found out today that I've overpaid the gas company, which was a pleasant surprise!
Video is more important though, it'd be nice to be able to take reasonable quality videos as well as pictures. It's a shame I can't pay a few quid more and get a K800i with better video.
And thanks for telling me 3G is quicker than EDGE, you can see I'm new to all this as I didn't know that at all

Thats alright.
Just on the video side of things the K800 records video that is fine for playback on the phone itself although once on the computer you can tell the quality isn't amazing - still good enough though imo. I don't really know much about the video on the D900 but I think that the K800 is the best all-rounder out of the three, so still the best choice imo

From what I read, the K800i records 15fps .3gp videos, while the D900i can manage 30fps .mp4 videos, which did look better on the samples I've seen. Not sure what other phones (especially in my price range) do 30fps or better videos though.

But the D900 does't have a Xenon flash.

my mate has a d900 and the video is so much better than k800, but my pictures are so much better than the d900's pictures, i think the d900 can record 640x480 30fps mp4 video, the k800i is 176x144 15fps 3gp, my k800i is 176x144 21fps mp4, which is good enough for me.

Guess the question is, what's the cheapest phone going that can take good pictures AND videos?

K800i has Xenon Flash which takes better night shots than D900i's LED Flash

Even K550's LED Flash surpasses D900's one
FYI: D900 takes only CIF Videos @ 15 FPS. the info that says D900 records VGA @ 30fps is a terrible fallacy

Yeah K800 is a amazing phone, takes really nice pics and is easy to use.
As far as video, as already said - it isnt so good. But does ANY mobilephone record GOOD video?
Maybe its just me but video for me is quite important that its a GOOD and clear picture and i dont think any phone today takes that
good video so its acceptable.
Its easier to watch a little poorer pics than poor video.

i agree with Dekota.
so far, i have never seen a phone that records a good and clear video
but in my case, i seldom records videos from my phone, except if my kids are making fun of me.

Easier to watch poor pics than poor video? It really should be the other way around.

@blox - Surely, the
K800 wins here amongst your choices . . .

the d900i is the best when all is considered. although the screen is not good for a typical samsung, samsung models tend to be of significantly better build quality than sony ericssons.the d900i is likely to last a lot longer than the k800i. it's often not long before SEs have to go in for repair or the software crashes and enlessly requires 'updating' etc. you won't find that with the d900i.
the videos on the d900i are better than the k800, but their cameras are approximately equal (in fact, the d900i may be slightly better). you can see comparison pics in this thread (don't know if there is an equivalent thread on this forum):

although looks aren't really that important, the d900i looks a lot more stylish too.
