Tell him he's taking too long and he needs to hurry up and finish so the phone can go on sale. Cheers.

bit disappointed cos of the small display
Posted by londonlad123
It is bit of a shame that the screen as been shrunk, I would like everyone else have preferred a bigger screen and wider device but I still appreciate the smaller size of this device as well.
Posted by BobaFett
indeed, its maybe just me, but built in gps etc dont raise my fantasy thats much, as a e61, e61i screen size.
Posted by londonlad123
Have to agree with that also, gps doesnt do much for me either. Would easily give it up for fm radio and a square track pad inside the dpad like samsungs i780 or x1 which is good for long emails and surfing.
Anyway I wouldnt be surprised if nokia keep the big screen e61 shape for a future model but thats a guess.

anyone got one of these E71's yet?
i've been offered one and might got for it replacing my N95, been doing all my email on that and would like to move over to Blackberry but retain most of what the N95 can do...what's the camera like in comparison if you have one, is video still 30 fps?

only because the number... maybe I'm being dim.. but i would have assumed an E71 would the replacement for the E70 (I know it's not) but the numbers would suggest that..
and yes! I love the candy bar, fold out keyboard idea.. I've had em all! 6800, 6810, 6820, 6822, E70
Yep, E62 or something would seemingly make more sense. I was tempted by the E61i as I quite like the Blackberry 8800 form factor (if little else) but the low screen resolution put me off. Now I'm used to the E90 the 320ish screen on the E61/71 would be that bit harder to use.

hehe, he let the cat outta the bag and now he's going to not say a word, let us stew for a bit.

from what i've been reading online today it hasnt been released...i was offered 1 yesterday and didnt know what it was & let someone else jump to the chance of buying it, after looking online today i should have got it, although the person that did buy it is getting on & off reception so it might be it was a 'test' model or something...will know more in the next couple of days when he reports back....it was handset only no accessories or nothing.
for the 30 seconds or so i looked at it i liked the blackberry styling, felt like a better build than my N95 although the phones are not really comparable, it has a carbon fibre like finish and was about the size of the Blackberry curve or maybe that was just the form factor giving that impression.
i know people that have had phones many months before official release in the past but i wasnt even aware of this phone before yesterday so got caught out....might go and buy it off the other guy tomorrow...will update asap, unless it appears in Carphonewarehouse 1st

Does the phone look same as the black one posted on first page?
Posted by BobaFett
then it was a proto probably. i wouldnt go for that
Posted by decoy7
it was the same as the picture of that guy holding one, shiny, the back was like carbon fibre looking with that carbon type of pattern in it.
that was kind of what confused me, i had a quick search when i got the call, found that picture online and didnt see much spec info, then when i saw it in person it looked different...if i dont buy it tomorrow i'll take some pictures as it's gone from being a phone i wasnt that bothered with to now i really want it....not good.
BobaFett,
probably a test version that would be fine when the firmware is updated to an RTM software version fit for public use....but again, i'm not 100%

Sorry but designa and general looks were just plain awful/ugly imo. i still prefer E70/6800/6820 design more than this thing in fact Nokia's most unique form factor was the hinge keyboard used on those old phones(referring on 6800). even E90 looks better than this. E60/E61/E62/E71's form factor doesn't look unique to me as well, more of a blackberry ripoff if you ask me
Posted by decoy7
might have been against the design myself if hadnt been debating a Blackberry for a while now, but there's been too many things missing from my wish list to let it replace my N95...this E71 ticks all the boxes and arrives at just the right time. hopefully the 3.2MP camera is close to the N95's for still images, if the video is 30fps that'll be a bonus & TomTom better work on it too...but the main thing i'm hoping for is a decent battery life!
if we get Blackberry services working on top of all that i wont be complaining at all...right now the stats are making it better than any current Blackberry device available which is pretty good going for any make.
also, that mock up image of the phone is actually an artist impression which is really nothing like the actual product, the finish is completly wrong, it's more of a mirror finish with carbon fibre effect.

@T-shark:
Unless Nokia will brought back the usual E7x form factor(like the E70) the phone will not be special looks wise
Posted by BobaFett
me seemes there are no spaces between the keys, should be a but uncomfy then imo
Posted by bavlondon2
Plenty of phones have no space between keys and they are fine.
Anyway still no sign of the E71!!!!!
Posted by BobaFett
imo at qwerty keypad some space is do needed, at traditional mobile keypad its not a must. i can also hard to imagnine e61 or e61i without spaces
Posted by londonlad123
Close keys are a problem if the keypad is flat. But on the e71 pic you can see the keypad buttons are convex and stick out in the middle.
Wonder if this phone will make it in time for q2 like the leaked info shows?
Posted by BobaFett
yeah, they stick out, but for my taste a bit small. maybe its firn for akids fingers, but i had sometimes problems with typing even on e61i ( but still the best qwerty kepypad i ever seen )
Posted by londonlad123
I think its now more about feeling out the correct key then pressing it.
Posted by johnmcl7
I thought the BB 8800 had a stupidly small keyboard with its tiny keys but in actual usage it was better than it looked due the raised edge which curved across the middle of the key combined with a good tactile response. I'd still prefer the keys to be slightly bigger but I find you really need to try the keyboard out in the flesh to judge how good it is.

Some details abt E66 from MR
This slider reminded me of the Nokia E65 in a way – no solid grounds for this, just similar colors and dimensions, and other than that they couldn’t be further apart. While the former is a S60-powered smartphone, the W760 is a feature phone running A200. Nevertheless, I find the spirits of these two phones uncannily close. Had the W760i hit the market earlier, it would have been an interesting addition to the Sony Ericsson K850i, yet with no frills in the way of camera. June will see the debut of the Nokia E65’ successor – Dora, that comes in a more diminutive casing and feels great (it is a tad steeper than the Sony Ericsson W760, but it beats it on many fronts). That’s how come you “wow” at the phone’s games and motion sensor at first, but after some time the excitement fades away and you end up with a run-of-the-mill slider on your hands, even not quite unique as far as design goes.

Cheers boba
I prefer the e71 in the photo in the first post. The qwerty is black and the markings on it are white, especially for the keypad numbers. In this the qwerty is graphite/charcoal colour and the markings are blue. It doesn't stand out enough, I'm hoping the new pic is an older prototype. Nokia needs to hurry up now everyone looks to be losing interest in it fast. That and there's a certain blackberry 9000 coming sooner maybe.

I’m planning to get E90 end of this month, but after see the last picture of E71 I made my decision that I must wait until E71 release. It is really looks beautiful.

Still think that the first pic in the first post of this thread is the e71 looking at its best. Shame its not got a 3.5mm, bb bold wins it for me.

Same for me ... cannot wait to see what applications will flourish with the new announcement and planned date of the Blackberry Developer Conference.

I'm still not happy about the changes made to the keypad. They removed the £, $ and ¥ and replaced them with symbols; upside down !, upside down ? and the + sign from the other side of the first keypad. hoping the Europe one has the first keypad.

Sounds like a Spanish keyboard. ¿Habla Español?
