I'm going to New York later in the year so i was wondering if anybody had any spare dollars that maybe have been lying around the house you haven't bothered to change back? If so give me a pm and i'll buy them off you if you want. Notes, loose change, whatever you have.

im off to New York later in the year too! when you going?

the way the dollar is at the moment im probably gonna get my dollars sorted soon, even though i probably wont be going for a few months

Posted by haynesycop
I'll be going from 1st July - 15th July. Luckily i get a bursary in February and my last loan installment in March so will get mine then, not sure how much to take though really never been before, not even to anywhere else in the USA. My accommodation has to come out of that too as i pay on arrival but it's only £185, need to book the flights next week too. When are you going? We could meet up hehehe, i'm staying on Broadway and hitting the shops, can't wait should be amazing.

Posted by Dicky Snapples
haven't really decided when i'm going yet. Probably Either march / april or july /august time.
Really looking forward to it, never been before

Posted by haynesycop
Yeah it'll be great once i get the flights booked i'll know i'm definately going then, well if you go in July give me and my guest a shout hehehe! Google the new york pass too it's good for discounts into loads of tourist places.

Posted by Dicky Snapples
yeah will do. We can partay!

Will definitly look at getting a pass too. Also a helicopter trip, apparently it aint cheap but really worth it

Posted by mcrosser
hope you have a great time. The only dollar I have is a 1$ bill

I've been to New York in 2000, but I don't know how much it has changed. I was in Bronx

Posted by haynesycop
How much?

Posted by p900 lover
NY is amazing, i went on a school trip in 2006 and definitely the best school trip ever lol. The NY pass is also good but only really worth it if your going to do all the attractions in the booklet.

As for money, i would say bring as much as you can, i managed to send $1000 in 5 days, not including accommodation.

Posted by haynesycop
So what that's £500 give or take, i'm planning on taking at least £1,000 as it will be for 2 weeks and i indeed to buy alot of stuff, hopefully more if possible.

Posted by fatreg

I'm going the same time as you Miss C!!

Posted by pmerryman
You and colin getting wed while your out there?

Hope you enjoy it.

Posted by haynesycop

Certainly will just have to start saving for spending money now, think i'll need alot!

Posted by pmerryman
New Hat, new shoes (with a matching bag), new outfit. And $100 for the wedding licence.

Only kidding, New york is supposed to be good, the in laws were ther last year, and they had a ball, and they are going back this year.

Posted by haynesycop

Where going for two weeks so i'll probably need alot but the accommodation was really cheap so that can be done. Never thought i'd be going will be fantastic, shops galore. If they have any places to recommend then give me a shout, other than all the tourist stuff, you know restaurants etc etc.

Posted by pmerryman
Not sure if this is of any use to you, but maybe to someone.

Thanks for that unfortunately cheap flights for July are not available yet, we booked with flyzoom the other day, £299.34 return from Gatwick, which is reasonable enough, didn't want to leave it and take a chance. Sure people will take advantage of this, if i had the spare cash i would go.

Posted by Miss UK
Take abit extra cash as you have to tip everyone in sight apparentley
a personal friend of the family went to Florida for a week or so and had to comeback earlier cos he ran out of cash tipping people

I think New York maybe my next hol however ive got my heart set on a Flat by the end of the year + partys breaking it in lols
so it maybe along whilley yet

I be going to NYC at the end of Feb on a Stag do!

I'll be taking £500 ish as we are going for 4 nights I think!

It was £235 for flights and £160 for Accommodation.

Posted by Dicky Snapples
Seems a few of us are off to Yank land at the mo! shame were not all going at the same time,we could of had a meet up

Posted by haynesycop
Have a great time Nanu!

It would have been good if we where going at the same time, there is still time for you though.

I'm pretty chuffed with what we got it was under £500 as i refuse to pay a fortune for accommodation aslong as i get a bed and a bathroom it's all good.

Bloomingdales here i come and of course the apple store!

Posted by Dicky Snapples
would of been cool though!

Posted by Nanu
Yup Deffo!!

Maybe next year? or somewhere a tad cheaper later on in the year!

Posted by Dicky Snapples
well I still may be going around the same time as laura a d colin so I may be able to meet up with them.but yeah a cheaper meetup is a good idea,London maybe ?

Posted by Nanu
Yeah sounds good!

Will you swim across?

Posted by Dicky Snapples
probably yeah ,won't take too long surely ?

Posted by Miss UK
Couldn't you get anything any cheaper if you waited or is that price the only best deal about

I paid £250 flight + top hotel when I visited Berlin last year only there for 3 days though but getting there and the hotel was great I was abit sceptical of the breakfasts but they were pretty nice, the baked beans were horrid but the Sausages were very nice

what do they eat for breakkie in America KFC lmao !

Posted by haynesycop
The USA is abit different from Germany, the price for the flight was the cheapest for the time of year, wasn't prepared to run the risk of waiting and not getting anything. Just happy that i know i'm actually going now, roll on July.

Posted by Miss UK
Sure it's different it's not that far for one thing takes a 1-5 hours to fly there

What will you be doing whilst your there then Laura?
Shopping yeah, will you visit Ground Zero

Posted by haynesycop
It's around 7 hours but on there way there it works out at about 2-3 hours and gets added back on on the way home. Shopping definitely going to do all the tourist stuff and a helicopter ride too, will be magic. Will have to work out abit beforehand as i bet the portions will be massive hahaha.

Posted by Miss UK
I'd love to be on a plan that long,
I made my mate sit by the window cos I was scared firstime but I proper well loved it but he didn't though he looked abit peaky so he made me sit by the window on the way back

next time I go off somewhere I wanna travel by proper Jumbo Jet,
our plane was a little thing lastime but it was great experience to get away

If I ever get to go to NYC I think i'll be over at the cinema seeing films before they hit here, shopping too i'd have to findout what size of clothes I am us sizes are different I know my shoe size 9-5

btw lets see what happens anyway if I get sorted by the end of the year then maybe I can prob go, perhaps my mate will pay for us

Posted by fatreg
on a plane for 7 hours sat next to me?

I can talk for England!

A couple of tips for you haynesycop when in NY.

First have a trip round the city on the open deck bus, this helps you with your bearings. Buy the ticket that covers both Up Town and Down Town. The tickets can be purchased around Times Square, but haggle with the price we never paid the price they asked. This is the cheapest way and best way of seeing the sights, and you hop on hop off as many times as you like.

Outside Macy’s of the side door there is a little café set in the gardens, they do great Mango smoothies etc. and iced drinks.

Footlocker on Times Square great for cheaper trainers, and T-shirts for the larger fit!!

Helicopter flight well worth the money, but watch the turn when he comes back via ‘’The Statue Of Liberty’’, nearly had my breakfast again there. We didn’t bother with visiting the statue, as to be honest you can’t go up inside anymore so just went to ‘’Ellis Island’’ on the free ferry, and the other half took photos from the ferry of Liberty.

You have to do a show, as that’s part of NY.

We also stayed on Broadway /54th. Street A brilliant location for access to the city and on the doorstep to Central Park. The Letterman show is filmed on Broadway adjacent to this street!

Should you choose to go up the ‘Empire State Building’, then choose your time, because if you go up about an hour before dusk you get the best of both worlds. You see the city by daylight, and also by night. Good tip that one saves you paying twice.

Niagara Falls also another good trip, but an all day one and you have to book in advance as that gets booked up very very quick.

Oh! and on the plane before you go buy yourself a headphone adapter, so you can use you own headphones from your ipod in the plane. We always fly Virgin and their headphones are a little tacky, so we use our own via the adapter..

There is loads more obviously, but this may help a little.

Sleep on a plane that leaves at 1300?? good luck!!

you won't need sleep anyway as in theory the flight is only 3 hours

you just might need an early night and then you will be well away!\\

I don't get jet lag

Sure, the Hollywood area is tacky and after dark is seedy even. But theres a hell of a lot more to L.A than the traditional touristy areas. If you like gigs then try the Hollywood Bowl, its got some of the best natural accoustics in the world. I saw the L.A. Phillamonic Orchastra there and the instruments seemed to come alive and were positively magical. Sunrise/sunset along Malibu is spiritual and why not take a drive up the coast on The Big Sur if impressive scenery is your thang?
Whereabouts did you go in L.A. fatreg as hearing somebody compare it to Blackpool is quite surprising to say the least?

Posted by haynesycop
He's never been!

Posted by fatreg
^^ she knows me so well!! sure I've never told you that!?

but @ topscooby, nope never been!

Posted by themarques
LA's nightlife rocks I had a hard time deciding between that and Miami but I think il have to give it to LA for its diversity and multi ethnicities, Miami is also to damn hot..
