I've decided to give up smoking once and for all and to cut down on the boozy nights for 2008 and to help with this strategy I'll be having more cozy nights in.
I like reading and was wondering what fiction you chaps are into reading right now.
TIA

I got Patricia Cornwells new book called "Book of the Dead" and it is fabulous also reading Jeremy Clarkson "The World According to Clarkson"
Was never into reading at all and somebody said read The Body Farm also by Patricia Cornwell and i have been hooked ever since, if your into crime and such you'll love her.

i'm rereading two old favourites, Song Of Albion Pt.3 by Stephen Lawhead, and The Walking Drum by Louis L'Amour.

@haynesycop
I confess I have never read a crime story. I like horror but honestly, I would give anything a try. The last book I read was Angels and Demons and that was a good few months ago.

i got half way through that when i was travelling last year - it was amazing, jsut aint got the time to finish it now

I am reading The Da Vinci Code

That is an amazing book could not put that down read it in 1 day, never got into Angels & Demons may dig it out again. If you don't mind gore then try her out especially the Kay Scarpetta novels, i suggest;
The Body Farm
Book of the Dead
Postmortem
Also have you read the one by Dave Pelzer i think his name is? It's a true story about child abuse it is pretty sick but it is such i good read if you get me. He did other books but the first is the best, "A Child Called It"
Posted by paul101
i'm trying to read "breathing fear"

Once you've finished The Da Vinci Code have a crack at Digital Fortress. Brilliant stuff

I'm on with Messiah, which is what the TV series is based on. But I have also been gifted Jeremy Clarkson's new book too, so Messiah has taken a bit of a back seat lol.

ATM I'm reading "Villains" by Paul Ferris
Very good read. Recommend it to anyone who like true crimes.
Also had a read at "Gangland Glasgow" by Robert Jeffrey but it was a huge let down

@TheLostProphet
The last Stephen King book I read was Dolores Claibourne which was quite good, probably the best Ste King I had read, although there are plenty of King that I haven't read yet.
I've also read some MR James and some Edgar Allen Poe ghost stories which were terrificly atmospheric stories.

Haynesycop seems to read the same books as myself!
All of the Kay Scarpetta Novels are great and really interesting and quite educational.
I have also got into Michael Connelly who writes about a detective called Hieronymus Bosch and they too are an excellent read!
Also Katherine Fox is another, a bit along the lines of Cornwell and also quite good but I have only read one of her Novels
I also enjoy Lynda La Plante she's is a gifted author!
Failing that try the Beano!

IT, is a cracking read of Stephen Kings! and I always prefer to read the books over the movies they have more depth to them!
That said I still go to watch the movies too!

@nanu of nazareth
My sentiments too.
I don't know whether it was just a badly made film(probably) but the Amityville horror was much better in book form (had me checking under the bed in case anything horrible was lurking under there) .

Well I just remembered to check our Book-Club here in work and found:
Stephen King's Rose Madder and
Patricia Cornwell's Isle of Dogs. So it'll be one or the other.
Edit Although I am not sure if I have already read Rose Madder. Is it anything to do with the words Rose Madder being an anagram?

I have Isle Of Dog's here along with Hornets Nest and Southern Cross, but with them being non-Scarpetta I have yet to read them!
I think I'll give them a go when I have finished the Lincoln Lawyer by Michael Connelly!!
Perhaps you should start an Esato book club Goldenface!?

Mmm, you mean like Richard & Judy's one? May be I'll call it Golden and Haynesys Book Club.
We'll see. Its good getting back into books.

Mmm, it sounds like I might be a bit squeamish for that, but the book sounds OK.
Joke! I am about 3/4 through the Pat Cornwell, which is still making me laugh. Oh and I have met Dr Scarpetta at last. She has only just appeared in the storyline.

Hehehehehe!
Scarpetta is a legend, i finished book of the dead the other night, gutted!

That's a coincidence, I'm just about to finish reading The Hobbit! I love JRR Tolkien's books, I'm going to start re-reading Lord of the Rings next, these are books that I can happily read over and over again without getting bored, and there's such a depth and amount of detail that there's always something I pick up that I missed on previous re-readings! I've read the Silmarillion too, though that's harder going, I also found unfinished tales quite hard going too but will have another go with it!
I'd recommend them wholeheartedly Goldenface, and they'll hopefully help me forget about giving up the fags too (though getting some help this time with some nicotine patches!)

I've bought the Lord of The Rings aswel, just waiting till i finish the The Hobbit first.

Jeremy Clarkson still he's so funny!

The book of general ignorance, it's from the guy who devised QI with Stephen Fry, loads of interesting things in it, also at risk by Patricia Cornwell, not as good as the Kay Scarpetta novels though.
