Personally I think you making a mistake there but not taking any help from the DSS if you are owed.

There is an old saying in business which goes "dont use your money, use someone elses" I suggest you start taking any benefits you are owed (you not doing anything wrong) and saving what you can an investing it at a later stage.

You've paid your taxes so make the most of it.

Im doing that currentley using the DSS but the way I see it is I paid tax so yes im entitled, I just want a good paid job cos I feel like a Poor person on the DSS atm lol you just can't buy nothing you want after bills and rent im not critising it it helps but i'd ratjher have a job that way im earning £250 ish a week I don't know how some people could not work and rely on this cos it's so depressing

Sammy, you will have to looking at all the new phone threads,
you have a phone just think to yourself it's better then everyone elses and you don't need something that has a huge screen or a satlelite tv hanging of the end of it!

Get away from those watches,
your not in debt yet but try and look after your exspendenture wisely!

im getting to grips now that I cannot buy anything anymore,
I have to save up for a flat and stuff for it.

My mom done me a favour kickin me out I guess lol

it's made me think twice

As Nanu says , or Department of Social Security which is what I think Miss UK was refering to

I'm in huge debt atm, but I still manage to find ready cash to buy myself (some) of the toys I want now and then. I own my car and all my possessions outright, the debt is from past mistakes.

You gotta enjoy life as well as work at it

Miss UK, you are an absolute trooper and I fully respect your positive attitude despite your family's being so mean to you and being kicked out on the street. I have been kicked out of home before too, partly my own fault but I also think they over-reacted bigtime. Like you I also think they did me a favour ultimately. Don't take it to heart, your family always keep loving you even if they find it hard to show it

Posted by Miss UK
DSS is where you claim income,
people of the UK are entitled to it if there out of work or earning a low wage hope you understand now

it's not a Nintendo DS .. LOL Nanu what are you like

I don't get why my mother kicked me out it was prob the Menopause,
I visit her occassionally I do think she regrets what shes done,
but she done me a huge favour, im not living in a decent area and away from the ghetto so that is something to smile about

When ive got my flat and working I intend on taking out a Mint card with 15months free then when im working all i have to do is repay that back when before them months are up!

ive worked everything out,
I just need a decent paid job atleast i'll be happy!

I have a mad urge to look at To Let properties atm and wish I lived in them everyone ive seen so far I wanna move into it

HELP lol

I can't wait to have my own place btw..

I haven't any major debts btw im doing well not to buy anything,
even though you lot keep blabbering on about all this new technology I just think to myself I don't need it don't get me wrong i'd love a N95 8GB but a flats better

Posted by max_wedge
Yep, N95 has everything except the kitchen sink... (and the rest of the kitchen, lounge, bedroom etc)

One week sleeping under bridges, or no N95.. which to do...?

Has anyone watched "Bank of Mum & Dad"?

it's quite a shocking watch tbh

I've been a good girl and paid my credit card off and cut it up, just the debit card now. Not long before the letters arrive saying they've upgraded the limit, silly silly banks.

i love not having any resposibilities, at least for a little while longer. I'm only 21, i've worked and partied and bought random junk for the past 3 years and have loved every minute of it, freinds of mine are finishing uni and getting well paid jobs but they are miserable in their chosen profession, i believe it's the best way to leave school and have a few years off before going to school.
Money is not important to me, i'd rather be in a job i enjoy on meager pay than sitting behind a desk with a stomach ulcer from stress the rest of my life.

Posted by haynesycop
Exactly, uni was not for me at all i went when i was 21 when all my friends finished college and went straight to uni and graduated just as i was starting. Glad i tried it but it was a waste of time especially in the degree i did and lecturers not turing up or leaving early to pick their kids up, no joke that either. It's an obscene amount of money to pay for what you get. Life is all about enjoying yourself and having a good time.

and shoes well those are hacking me off seriousley finding a
comfy pair is a hard job

Ohh for some odd reason my min payment for my card had gone down from £25 to £17.50 anyone elses gone down too?

Does my morgage count?

If so, i've got over 150k in debt, if not, i've got no debt!

I didnt go uni either so i'd say thats what starts most people on the road to life in debt!

Posted by Miss UK
Of course it counts,
what are the repayments pcm that your paying?

have you spoken to anyone about getting any help?
or perhaps advertising a room for rent?!

seems to be alot of people in debt over this atm,
rented accomadation is going up due to so im told,

this bloomin country ehh!

Labour need to be sent packing

Posted by Caspa
no rooms to rent, one bed flat!

no worries though as its an investment and i need somewhere to live!!!

you dont wanna know what my repayments are, lets just say its a good job im paid well.

im not actually having any financial difficulties to be honest, just wondered if it counts!

Hmm, I think you could get yourself on a
council list if that would help you out?

with those now you have to bid on properties that your intrested in online the one with the most points wins saft way I know

btw your so darn lucky to have a well paid job,
I know I start in a new role soon but im also worried how im gunna cope with Bills all the ultilities etc..

good job im not a party animal or don't drink I swear it would be worse then

ive been thinking about getting a loan to pay my credit card off off my bank dunno what the repayments are though anyone know if it's wise doing this?

I used to have £3000 worth of debt now paid off and completely debt free now. It was a huge weight from my shoulders and i celebrated when it was paid off. Never will get into debt again it depressed me though these days £3000 is not much. Now i save if i want something. Sensible but i feel free now.

Posted by Bonovox
I forgot to say that after paying off my debts i took a long look at myself and thought most of the things i bought i just did not need. Its ok to have nice things in life but sometimes if you are spending and spending perhaps stop and take a look at your life to see if something is missing. Is there a reason why you keep doing it perhaps the things you buy is to compensate for something thats missing. Thats how i seen my life now i spend more time with family friends and enjoying more simple things in life though i still love to buy nice phones but i save for them. One word of warning though is about LloydsTSB. I knew someone who had a bad debt with them plus with others but LloydsTSB were the worst regarding hounding you. They never give up they are so persistant and i was told if you have a bad debt with them they will always persue it in court. Some creditors give up but not Lloyds. I hate them.

Its amazes me that in todays current ecomnomic climate, Abbey have decided to (out of the blue) offer me a £1950 overdraft!!! These financial instututions cant help themselves, and unfortunately alot of consumers cant either!

@Miss UK

with regards to the loan, it can be a better option due to lower interest rates, but you'd need to do a direct comparison between the two to be sure, i.e. how long would it take you to pay off the card as it is and how long would the loan be for, so what are the totals repayed inclusive of interest. If you do go down the loan route, you must not begin to use the card again as that when people start to dig themselves into a whole!!!

I've never been in debt apart from my morgage, but i did overspend and waste money when i was younger. Buying stuff i didnt need or simply spending excessively partying! (£200 a night, disgraceful)

Im much more grounded these days (thanks to Islam),im t-total and i no longer want to be filthy rich just comfortable and happy.

the above post is spot on also!!!

The thing that i love to do more than anything these days is travel. Whilst that costs money i do have a decent job but save for my travels. I enjoy simple things like enjoying being by the sea in beautiful places and not spending money on stupid things needlessly.

I cranked up my debt after getting my flat,
now im determined to get it down,

in theory it would take 2yrs to pay it of at £30 a month which is why I must have a well paid job,
luckily I should be getting some training soon at college to re-enter a course I mis-made the mark for :/

I really think labour need to go there bringing the uk down,
Recession which they say were outta?
and how many unemployed? still millions

if they made a effort tohelp people get back to work im pretty sure our economy would come out of this mess
Rant over!

I'm not too bad with my money. I don't have much left over each month after paying my mortgage etc but I don't have a credit card, and luckily i don't use my overdraft.

I thank my parents for it really, they tought me how to utilise my money, and thankfully i've always repayed any money i've borrowed off them.

Sorry to hear some people have debts and I hope everything gets sorted asap.

My my, how two and a bit years changes everything lol.... I am now about £3k in debt including credit card, but thats because I bought a new house, worked it out that in about 6 months i shall be debt free once again (unless I buy something silly like a new car)
