Hi there,
Is T-Mobile going to sell the P800 anytime soon? I don't want to buy it for $900 in Europe if they'll be selling it for $400 in a few weeks. A SonyEricsson press release says it "will be available in the US in the beginning of next year". They were really quick to sell the T300, faster than some European countries... so does that mean the P800 is going to come out here soon too? Does anyone have insider info?
Sven

@svenbocklandt... GOOD QUESTION!
It's about time someone started this thread.
I have AT&T, but I am doubtful they will have the P800 any time soon. They still haven't made MMS available to their subscribers with T68i's, so I figure they probably won't be able to support the P800 for a long time.
T-Mobile, on the other hand, HAS made MMS available to its users, so I suspect they will be the first to have the P800. I just hope my one-year contract with AT&T ends right when the P800 comes out, so I can simply switch to T-Mobile.

And, when it finally does come out here, I really hope it's less than $400, like you said. Anything more than that, most people (including me) will not be able to afford it.

I figure that if it does come out on T-mobile I will just void my ATT contract, but I wont pay anything because I will make the argument on how they said that by the end of the year their GSM network will be as good or better then their other network... and it still isn't so I will complain that they didnt keep up their end of the agreement so I wont have to either, I figure enough complaning and it will work.

GIVE EM HELL!
why should you have to abide by the agreement if they didn't?

I talked to a T-Mobile retail manager who is usually well informed, and he said:
"From the info I have been getting on my end, it doesn't look like we will be carrying the P800 anytime soon. The next few phones we have coming out are the Nokia 7210 and 3650, and the Samsung v205. I haven't seen any other communications from T-Mobile regarding the P800...sorry! If I do hear something, you will be first to know."
... that doesn't sound good

I think the P800 is to expensive for T-Mobile or any other US service provider to take it in. Remember that the majority of US customers and the bulk of US carriers income is from low-end-phone users. In general US mobile phone users don't want to pay more than $100 for a phone. Your best bet would be to get it on at an internet merchant or on eBay once it is offered by legitimate sellers.

Interesting...
@amagab
But will a P800 from overseas work with a US provider? Even if you can get a dialtone and can make a call, will you be able to use all the phone's features? Case-in-point: My T68i has an MMS editor, yet I can't send any because AT&T isn't providing me an appropriate "portal" or something.
If you say I could use most of it's features, well then I may seriously consider doing what you suggested... once the price comes down, that is.

T68ifan> most phones from overseas have never been locked so you will be able to use any SIM card from a US GSM service provider such as AT&T, T-Mobile, and Cingular. And you will be able to use any features that are supported by your carrier so if you have T-Mobile then you will be able to send MMS with your P800. Even if AT&T does not support MMS yet there are many other features on the P800 that are fantastic and not dependent on the service provider such as the PDA functions, camera, bluetooth, etc. I have T-Mobile and will definitely get a P800 asap.

@amagabGreat points! Now i just need a p800.

I too will have a P800 as soon as I can get one from a seller or if AT&T will get one. I think that AT&T will get the P800 as soon as it comes out because they are getting MMS early next month. I know that Cingular will get it because they get every GSM phone that comes out here.

Maz> maybe you should wait until you actually have the P800 before you change your profile icon!!??

since t-mobile is selling a camera phone with no jave, no pic ID, no built in email client for $449 - $600 [V205], i really doubt that they will carry the P800 for the same price.

Testing provided, T-Mobile UK will launch the P800 aroung feb-march time. So hopefully, other T-Mobile networks wont be long after!

@Maz42089
Does the P800 avatar next to your name mean you already have one? If so, where did you get it? And does it work with your current provider?
Are you saying AT&T will begin support MMS in January? I really hope you are right. By the way, where did you hear about this development?
Thanks for sharing the info.

You know what I like the P800 a lot and if I want it as my Icon I really don't care if you like it or not... But I know this because I know people who work for At&t they tell me that MMS should be out early 2003... But this is just what I here.... Please don't hold me to it! I will inform you if I here anything about it..

Well, lets hope that during this new year of 2003, T-Mobile, AT&T or some other provider will make available the awesome P800 to U.S. users.
I WANT MY P800!
Posted by amagab
Yes, I hope T-Mobile will get the P800 so they can provide better customer support. When I first got my T68 I had a really hard time getting any tech support becauese they didn't know anything about the phone. They ended up forwarding my call to a guy in the UK doing consulting for Voicestream.
