I just noticed that the Jock's have their own section, i consider myself to be English rather than British, so perhaps a thread for us English might be in order!!

Cup of Tea sir?

There is one thing I would like to do - probably next year - and thats visit the Great English Castles of Northern England; Northumberland, Lancashire and Cumria. Amazing relics of the past and well worth a visit IMO.

Posted by $herry
may i participate for starters?

Quality idea, best of luck!*

*Typical English, stealing all our inventions lol

Posted by stevevalo
Always following never leading

Posted by Cycovision
What an absolutely spiffing idea! I always put my nationality as 'English' rather than British, it's about time that we tried to restore a bit of pride in our country.

Pull up a chair, I'll show you my ASBO and we can all pick on the Welsh.

Posted by Sammy_boy
Indeed, other nations in the United Kingdom are proud of their nationality, it's about time the English were too!

And after Cyco's shown us his ASBO, we'll sit around and talk about the weather, and how we're completely rubbish and never win anything at sports that we invented

That depends. We operate a points system for skilled migrant forum posters. Or you could jump in the back of a lorry in the forum for Russian users when nobody is looking...

And of course Our dear Scottish pals gifted us the game of Golf also , though i'm not sure that's something we ought to be thankful about.
Let's face it gentlemen, no nation loses quite as gracefully (or indeed as often) as us English

Posted by Cycovision
Brrrrrr! Isn't it cold? It's cold enough to snow, I reckon. You know I can't remember it being this cold since the last time it was really cold. And it's not just cold is it? It's bitter. And that wind goes right through you which makes it feel colder I reckon...

Posted by MWEB
Yeah Cyco, it sure is parky out there , though i personally have never seen a white Xmas, apart from my birth year 1962.

Posted by Cycovision
I know! No wonder all the old people are dying of hydrothermiac, it's global warming melting all the icebergs I reckon.

More tea?

Posted by MWEB
What, Yorkshire Tea , make's you laugh that, WTF has Yorkshire got to do with it.
Great English institution though, ripped from the old colonial days.

Posted by Cycovision
Yeah. Have you ever been to one of their teashops? People queue outside them for hours, they're that popular, and then moan when they get in because they're charged £15 for a cup of ordinary yorkshire tea and a stale Eccles cake. Then they go back again next week...

Madness!

Posted by MWEB
Oh yeah, my mum in law lives near there, we often pop in to Bettys tea room in Harrogate, and that yorkshire fish and chip baron, Harry ramsdens place.
Fish and Chips, another great English tradition.

Posted by $herry
me loved fish and chips in edinburg!

Posted by Cycovision
Yeah, fish and chips is definately one of the few things that us English are good at

Posted by MWEB
Though i must hand it to our Scottish friends, only a Scot would be hardy (or dumb) enough to survive in a locked WC for 4 days at this time of year

Posted by methylated_spirit
Extreme bowling! He's not that hardy, he drank the tap water. A purist would have gone without, or if really desperate drank their own urine, before touching the taps.

Posted by MWEB
Yet again, we English came 2nd, our best competitor only managed a poor 12 hours.

We did win first place recently in a survey of Europe's safest roads. Apparantly, we don't die as often as our neighbors do when we total our cars. I can't find the source now but it's on the beeb's website somewhere.

Posted by methylated_spirit
That's because they have mentalist drivers abroad...I was in Barcelona recently for the Rangers game, and cripes, it was terrifying!

Posted by MWEB
Quite true Meths, i remember a horrific hotel taxi transfer in Turkey once, red lights and road markings meant nothing to that guy

Posted by Cycovision
This is why I like riding motorbikes in India. I can imagine that the buzz you get after arriving safely at your destination is similar to the buzz you'd get after winning a game of Russian Roulette

Posted by $herry
I drive like a maniac among maniacs here in PK

and whenever i drive slowly and responsibly, i get hit by bikes or rickshaws

Interesting question, with some good and dumb replies.

@$herry

Yeah, those bloody tuc-tuc drivers are insane! Good way to get somewhere very quickly though if you don't mind soiling your underwear...

Blimey!! An English thread right here in Esato!!

I had been looking left right and center to find something to check if what i wrote here in this thread is right or not.

What do you chaps think??

Posted by Cycovision
^^^

You're absolutely correct, although 'eaten' is not strictly informal. In English, there are very often two forms of past tense verbs, one for statements and one for questions.

For example:

"Have you eaten your dinner yet?"

"Yes, I ate it a while ago."

However, as with all rules there are exceptions:

"No, I haven't eaten it yet." is obviously a statement, but you use the question form of the past tense verb in this case.

The SE "official" forum idea makes me laugh, i have been threatened with legal action on several ocassions by SE, unhappy with spy pics and info on M-R, they are by far the most zealous of all the manfacturers at keeping things under wraps.

Posted by Cycovision
Yes, I doubt very much that SE would agree to such a thing but in fairness, if you don't ask, you don't get.

It would be nice if they started answering emails first! As you said, they're quick enough to send emails out when somebody does something they don't like...

Thank You Cycovision
