where can i define the mime types?

Posted by arnoldc
T68ifan, i did an ASP script that changes the MIME type on the fly and it did not work on R2 firmware. I never pursued it since...

jcpsad, easiest way is to go to server config and set it there. i use MS IIS.

Posted by jcpsad
what seems to be the problem?

i already finished the wap site and uploaded it to our server but when i tried to access it over 7650... it does not display the page... it displays the codes instead... can you help me please...

jcpsad, did you configure your server to understand MIME TYPES .wml, .wmlc, etc.? you have to do that! you're doing a wap 1.x not wap 2.0

How to Add MIME Types on a W2K Server Using IIS:

  1. Log onto server using an account with administrator rights
  2. Click Start > Administrative Tools > Internet Services Manager
  3. Right-click on the computer icon and select Properties
  4. On the Internet Information Services tab, under Computer MIME Map, click the ‘Edit’ button
  5. On the File Types window, you can see all the registered file types. To add a new one, click the ‘New Type…” button
  6. Try adding the .imy ringtone format. In the Associated extension field, type .imy
  7. In the “Content type (MIME)” field, type audio/imelody
  8. Click OK, then OK, then OK

You’re done!

@jcpsad and chrisgray999
Sorry, I can't help with wml, I'm better with x/html.

Posted by chrisgray999
@T68iFan: ok thanks anyway, how do u do it on xhtml? Thanks.

Posted by T68iFan
@chrisgray999
Try posting this xhtml page (first change mysong.imy to a real .imy file in your web directory). Let me know if it works.
Code:
<html>

<head>
<title>My Song</title>
</head>
<body>
<a href="mysong.imy" mime_type="audio/imelody">Download mysong.imy now!</a>
</body>
</html>

Is there any mime type atribute for themes to add to xhtml code?

Posted by chrisgray999
Thanks! I will use that in my site soon...The main question that i wanted to know was about stopping the 'you are required to fill something in' message, is there something you have to add to the input tag? Also, how do u add options to the menu when the option button is pressed? Like esato has forum home etc. Cheers

@orangeman can u use php? Or asp, or perl?

Posted by wapchimp
The server allows it-i dont know how to do that stuf but i can learn-does that work within xhtml and t68i browser?

Posted by chrisgray999
Yes, it will work with xhtml, because the server processes the script, and sends the output to the browser... The output can be in any form, including xhtml... I would recommend searching for a tutorial on php, because it is the easiest IMO, although i can provide one if u want?

Posted by wapchimp
Yeh that would be cool-could u mail them to me orangemans@hotmail.com please mate with instructions-i willilook up php and learn sumit new :-D

I currently setting up a wapsite. The site is programmed in xhtml and I intend to have images, animated gifs and sounds. The problem I am having is that my I cannot enable download of AMR files (T68 sound format). From reading this thread it is apparent that it has something to do with the MIME type. I have already contacted my web provider and they are next to useless, does anyone know the MIME type for AMR files?

Or have any other explanation.

Posted by wapchimp
there are other mime types listed previously - I have sent a PM to T68ifan for you - hopefully if he knows he will ist it here

Posted by will190780
Cheers for that. I have to have the site finished for monday so it would be a lifesaver.

I am also having a lesser problem with my front page. It seems to display when it fancies it, almost on a random basis. I was forced to use a wml front end, but the code is text book. It works fine in wap emulators, is it perhaps a problem with the phone?

Hope this helps, Chris

I tried changing my link to:-

1. <a href="/files/wavs/animal/bird.amr" mime_type="audio/amr" accesskey="1">Bird</a><br/>

But it still doesn't work.

My site is wapjaw.net feel free to check it out. Most of the Gifs are just half inched from other sites but this is likely to change by monday.

@will190780 you will have to upload the mime type to your server (that is if i have told you correctly ) just putting the mime type in you tag wont matter if the server wont realise the file type.

@chrisgray - I work for orange - i think you will be a web designer when u leave college - you are pretty tooled up on the subject.
I have found a counter here http://xhtml.christersson.org/default.asp
but it is written in XML & view source does not help apart from the XML/XHTML header

Posted by wapchimp
hey man no worries - i have just added mophun games as screensavers to my wap site

Posted by chrisgray999
Ok, is all this stuff on the xhtml site? Cos i cant get it?

Posted by will190780
chrisgray999

Thanks for that. Have you any experience using .htacess files. I have named and transfered the file to the server. The contents of the file are:

AddType audio/amr

Does this look right to you? It doesn't seem to work. Only thing I am not sure about is whether I transferred the file in ASCII mode or BINARY as I am using XP software. I will get an FTP programme and see if this fixes it.

Posted by chrisgray999
Hmmm, is it in the root folder of your server? I would have thought xp would have uploaded it in the right format... But you should try with ftp too...

Posted by p_mihill
Is there ne way that i can get some decent porn on the wap sites as i cant find any
