Calling all pilots, be you full commercial with an airline or just a Private Pilot, come to the Pilots thread and share some stories!!

I'll start with mine. I'm currently working towards my PPL, with 32 hours under my belt.. anyway, I was doing solo consolidation in a Tomahawk one day out at West Melton. Because I was on my own with not much experience (only 15hrs or so at that point) I wasn't allowed to do touch and go's, only full stop landings every time I completed a circuit.

Anyway, after a couple of circuits, for some reason, I opened the door as I was taxiing back to the hold point (I think it was quite hot). I did all my checks and lined up, then full power...

... then all of a sudden.. *clang CLANG CLANG* This LOUD noise started banging from the left wing and I was like ohh shiiit... has the landing gear buckled or something? A flap/aileron loose??!

Anyway, I did my circuit with this loud banging noise and came back to land. I managed to get the plane down safely, as it turned out nothing was wrong...

... I had got the seatbelt caught in the door, and the metal part was banging against the fuselage!!!

Everyone has to have a scary moment in their training. I have a couple more that I can share later on. I remember one of my lecturers recalled his first solo, how he landed on a marker board and smashed the board into pieces!!

So go on, if there are any cellphone-cum-pilot people on Esato, share your stories, how far you have gone, how many hours etc etc..

great to hear it was all safe in the end but it could have been worse. On some aircraft if the door pops open (which could happen if not closed properly) it can make the whole aircraft arodynamically unstable and I've read about crashes when this happens

anyway, we do have a pilots thread here (with an easy to find title )... so lets continue there please

Who is a pilot here?
