Notes and contacts don't ask for permission while files(Mp3, pics, videos, etc) do.

Today i was looking for my passport and while i was waiting i decided to bluejack someone. I found a w800 and i started sending jar, themes and an image from her(w800 owner). She never knew who was bluejacking her even i was just behind her. She accepted everything without any complaining. And the best part was when i sent her the picture, she showed a lil smile and started looking all around.

So you sent her a picture of herself that you took? I'd be freaking out! Plus it would've been very easy to spot you.

I'll try this in few days

yep, and so far on a K750 it's perfectly safe to accept images. However if you get a jar file ie: a game, it should be rejected. While there aren't any java apps I know of that can cause problems on your phone, it is possible to create java apps that can delete contacts, pda items etc.

Well, actually it'll ask you for read/write permission EACH and EVERY time that it tries to do anything.

Posted by max_wedge
yes that's correct, but some people have the "remove java permissions" patch, meaning they can use java without those annoying prompts. For such people, I felt a warning was necessary.

It also depends on the phone, some older phones have less stringent java security.

Is it still quite easy for SEs to bluejack? Are you finding that you have to pair with a device before being able to send anything?

I get frustrated at Samsung because it always requires that devices are paired using a 4 digit code.

Posted by tranced
well, if i want to send some file over bt to another phone, there is no need of pairing. the owner of the other phone just has to accept/reject the file.

Posted by rdnymllnsktr
Well, with the release of Spider-Man 3 (I went to the midnight showing), you would've thought that Bluejacking would've been great, but I got no one. :'(

Posted by rdnymllnsktr
Well, it seems like with the new bluetooth settings on newer phones, this thread is dying, if it hadn't already died...

That's the point that I'M trying to make...with the newer phones out there with better bluetooth spec's, bluejacking is dying... :'(

@rdnymllnsktr, don't despair, bluejacking's not a thing of the past yet. I managed to bluejack someone yesterday night on a train. Turns out she was standing right in front of me, with her back to me. She was looking around but not behind her. I had my phone back in my pocket by then anyway.

Posted by max_wedge
I got bluejacked by a bus shelter the other day....

Nah, bluejacking isnt dying its simply evolved over the years making it more and more difficult which gives it the appearance of its death. I predicted bluejacking would die 4 years ago when i first started bluejacking with my T610, but i can still do it today, its just a tad harder. More and more people seem to own Nokia and Samsung Bluetooth phones, Nokia being devices that have to manually accept anything sent to them, and Samsungs which usually need to be paired before anything can be sent. There are much fewer Nokia 6310's around, and even though there are many more SE phones around now (which tend to automatically accept contacts including pictures if (and only if) they're assigned to a contact), most of them have their Bluetooth off by default where many Nokias come with it on.

bluejacking is all about pot luck much of the time, but you can improve your success by guessing which phones will accept contacts manually, or by performing tricks to get the person to manually accept items sent to them.

Posted by shivam007
Most of the people nowadays keep their bluetooth off.. Btw most nokias don't accept things automatically..

physics - boring, isnt it - yes it is

was in physics today with our new teacher. we were sending notes about, (I wont go into the details of the conversation) but under the table we were sending messages to each other (the teacher cant see under the table because there is a big bit of wood at the back of the table). so i went to send someone the message "what r u doin tnight" but my finger slipped and just under all of "my devices" was the computers.... connecting - physics1. my palms were sweaty. what was my bt name? was it paul?
or was it jalu's sujestion of Phil Mcrackin (which I only started using yesterday)

a yellow ballon pops up from the botom right

next a rather angry teacher. and probuably without thinking about it.

PHIL McRACKIN!!!
whoops

My physics teacher's so laid back I don't even need to bluejack people to talk to them. I'll just go up to the and start talking. Or whip out my phone and call them... Or whip it out and start listening to music. It's such a fun class!

Any idea for good names?

PS I've already done Phil McCrackin and Ben Dover and Billy Willy Asshat - should I send more or leave it at that?

The funny thing is, there was a kid called "Philip McCracken" at my high school...

If you look for a good (and free chat software for your phone, try SubliMobi bluetooth chat (http://www.sublimobi.com).

(Signed up just for this XD)

I own a SE w300i (Walkman flip-phone) and I practice BlueJacking on my brother's Moto RAZR, it still requires a confirmation but it appears over whatever they were doing (or if the phones closed makes a noise) and it shows up sorta like this

Connecting with X...

"Hello"
From:
X

Its pretty cool We're going out today and I can;t wait to try it in a real situation.

It has been three weeks since the last post. Has this thread died? Was fun when it lasted I guess... Anybody disagrees?

At a party that I was forced to go to, I made it fun by sending out 'Osama bin Laden' contact cards and embarassing pictures of my little brother (when he was a baby) to total strangers

No, it hasn't died.

I wans.t really bluejacking.
I was at church yesterday when i decided to search for other devices.
I found an L6 and a K750i. I transfered 2 pix and a video to the L6 and L6 sent me 2 audio clips in return.
At the end of it all i didn't get to know who they and so did them.
It was fun

I tried bluejacking a police officer the other day using BT Info, I found the phone and pressed connect, his phone made a noise and he rejected the transfer. I could have had hours of fun with his SMS and phone book!

I was in the bank today and was waiting for my number to be called as there was many people in the bank. Out of boredom, I did a Bluetooth discovery to see if there was any other Bluetooth device around. A name appeared on my screen "Nokia 7650" which obviously means some poor Nokia users has his Bluetooth switched on.

I looked around and didn't see anybody around me using that brick... I mean Nokia 7650. I then proceeded to create a new contact in my phone which had all it's fields empty except for the first name which I gladly filled with "Buy Ericsson!" and made my R520 send that business card to the Nokia 7650 and a guy a few feet away from me suddenly had his 7650 making obscene noises in the bank. He took out his 7650 and started looking at his phone (and looking lost at the same time).

I couldn't contain myself and left the bank. Thought I'd share this story with all.

Maybe we should do this more often in public.

they have probably been trained to reject unknown connections. But I thought of something, what if you were in trouble and trying to get his attention? If the cop had a non-symbian or non-pocketpc phone, then there would be no danger accepting the message. And if he has symbian or pocketpc, the Force should buy AntiVirus for all police phones so they can answer messages just in case it's a message from someone in the public who needs police assistance.
