After doing this for so many years, the billboards are now starting to cash on on this phenomena. I'm so glad we trained all the bluetooth users to simply answer "no" when prompted to receive a bluetooth message.

And do you think that those advertisments would be of any use ?
By the time they'd sent a video clip or picture to a passing phone, the owner would more than likely walked out of range.

I heard something but I can't remember where.
They say in Cinemas the will provide a bluetooth server wher users can browse the THRILLERs using thy bluetooth phone.
I think this should be great !

Please forgive me father as it be too long since my last confession (too busy playing with my MacMini) but I feel I must share it with others.
1.Rename your BT name to Congratulations!
2.Get a copy of 'The Stripper'
(you know da da da daaaa da da da daaaaa)
3. rename to ringring or happybirthday .wav (or mp3)
now send and listen for the poor soul playing The Stripper theme in public and how long it takes to stop when panic kicks in.
Enjoy!

I've been doing that ages, but with other sound files..

That's the funny thing. I suspect that you get a message that has a link, so you end up paying to receive the message via a GPRS charge. The advertiser is happy (almost free), the network is happy (you use your GPRS contract), user feels cheated (coz since when is a trailer a good representative of the real movie?)
Now I just read that intel is working on USB wireless, meaning all future USB won't need cables and have a 10m range. Just when Bluetooth and USB learn to work together at the 2.4GHz range here comes something else to muddle the water.
SE users, just say "no" to bluetooth advertising, all other may be exploited! LOL...
Posted by etaab
I cant see it catching on much though, especially with many S60 phones which never even alert the user when another Bluetooth device tries to connect.

Is there any way of doing this with the SE k750i/k700? And is it free? I mean isn't it sending it via bluetooth? If its free I'll be doing it all the time

Living with my Nokia 7250i =/
Posted by max_wedge
Jellyman, ah... you do realise Bluetooth doesn't cost anything?
It doesn't use the operator, it's a device to device communication and cut's out the operator altogether (like Infrared), whereas phone calls, mms, sms, gprs are device to base station commmunications, and require the operator to connect you to other devices.

hehe i used my mac to take controll of my friends phone using BluePhoneElite and i started sending sms's using his number through my laptop haha he found out and punched me..

Yeah I know that but I didn't know you could do business cards via it
Posted by etaab
Most Bluetooth phones (if not all) support business cards or contacts.
In fact, im finding it hard to think of one that doesnt (excluding crap Sharp phones).

My sisters v500 dosn't support them.
Posted by etaab
Well, the V500 being a Motorola wont be easily bluejackable anyway, they're always undiscoverable anyway.
Posted by max_wedge
correct, I found that with my V525.

for some reason in my btexplorer program when i select autosend vcard it does the inquiry general access devices and finds the devices, it then says Vcard was not sent and goes back to the inquiry screen but says sending 0% and does not do anything else. any ideas??
Posted by etaab
It sounds like its stuck trying to send.
Have you given it permission to send using Bluetooth ? also, try reinstalling the app.
I always keep a copy of the app in my Others folder in case it bugs up - i can reinstall quickly anywhere i want and dont need to resend it from my pc.
Oh, btw, theres also http://www.easy-jack.co.uk which works on the K750i too.

yippe! my 1st bluejack was a success
i was in a restaurant yesterday where i saw a guy wielding a t630. i did a search and it popped up. i used bluejackx to send "welcome to shanti sagar". he read the message and was looking at the billing counter confused. i made my exit as casually as possible.
Posted by bijitendra
now, that was something to simple for a bluejack msg, niranjan. u shld hav tried something more frightening or confusing. My favorite line is : you r receiving Nokia virus!
Posted by etaab
I've just started sending random nonesense when i send messages now, such as 'watch out of the purple monkey !'
BTexplorer works great for sending automatically too.

I was at the Movies last night, when a few guys in front of me took out their big nokia 6680 brick phones, My friends and I are all SE fans, so we just laughed at them. They then turned round looked at us and turned back around. Then I got an incoming message, the first one was a pic of a really disgusting photo of an old woman, I had to delete it before I puked! This is the other pic which was actually quite cruel, but amuzing at the same time!
Posted by etaab
Didnt you send them anything back ?

Well, seeing as the W800i and K750i are literally the same phone in different jackets..
Character limit in contacts is usually 30.

etaab, what exactly do u do when u bluejack people around you?? What software do u use and what do u actually send?, Its gotta be hard cause the other ppls fones have to have their bt switched on... and who has that when not using it?
Posted by etaab
Thousands of people have their phones Bluetooth switched on. By default, most if not all Nokia phones that have Bluetooth, come with it switched on and visible to other phones. For example, in a single day an app like Mobiluck running on my PDA found about 450 phones - and thats in a 2 hour period. All you need is to go somewhere busy to find other Bluetooth phones.
When i bluejack people, usually i use the old send a contact via Bluetooth method, but sometimes i'll use apps like MeetingPoint, Mobiluck, BTexplorer or BEDD.
As for the messages i send, they're usually jokes, or something relating to where i am. For example, in a shopping mall i'll send people messages like "free $10 voucher with this msg"
Posted by TeenInvader
I tried the send contact trick. I never succeded it alway fails.
But I do find other phone. I gave up. Maybe people are aware of the Blue tricks.
Posted by etaab
More than likely you're just unlucky, or not very good at spotting easily bluejackable phones.
Posted by shpidicus
what is the best software to use for bluejacking with my P910i?
So i can send bigger messages then with Sman which has only 20 characters or so...
Posted by etaab
Theres lots of software about, but they all tend to send business cards as the bluejack message, so you're limited to about 30 characters.
Posted by eyedol_52
I read a post of another program.. but i dont remember where... try a search..
Posted by hotcha
My pals and I did this one day at the mall, it really was a blast.

I still cant believe that a post made it 2002 has continued to live consistently for so long.
Anyway,Ive had a bit of fun with this but as more people are becoming aware of bluejacking and the more people are becoming aware of the fact that bt drains battery life;I am finding it harder to find mobiles to bluejack.

In one month's time, this thread would be 3 years old... and it's still going strong... cool...
Posted by max_wedge
I leave my bt on all the time, doesn't seem to unduly affect battery life unless I actually use it.
Posted by whizkidd
Yeah. Even i leave my phone with bt on all the time... And my tests have showed that there isn't much difference in the standby time with the bt off.... @ajack, how does it feel to be the "inventor" of bluejacking? Man you are even in the bbc reports!
