well, now im having no problems with it at all, no restarts, nothing. and a damn fast speed. all due to the fact that i update my firmware regularly. if u didnt even try, then ur one of the ignorant idiots who waste money on phones and know nothing about firmware updates which can make it significantly faster -.- one piece of advice, at least update ur firmware. people who dont even try are _______ -.-

1. Download the Sony Ericsson Update Service (SEUS) from
http://www.sonyericsson.com/c[....]pdateservice/w910i?cc=sg&lc=en
2. Follow the instructions on-screen. Thats all you need to do

still no latest fw?i guess SE had stopped all the support for us.

Two restarts yesterday, One restart today (so far). I wasn't even using it in any way when it restarted.
I had to quit using automatic e-mail and RSS updates because it made the phone unusable while it was updating. (My k610i handled this better)
Sometimes there is a delay when answering a call it takes about 5-10 second from I flip it up or press a key.
Yesterday when it rang I flipped it up and it kept ringing for 5-10 seconds with a distorted ringtone.
I'm using R1FA035 (080527) and the phone is working better than in the beginning but it still needs fixing.

Hi, guys.. Its me again.. ^_^
After about 12 days since my last update, i have only 1 restart only.. Nah, small matter to me. Its better than before which is 1-2 restart per day! LOL! ^_^.
And one more thing, i realize that my HSDPA function which i claimed "missing" is working again! But the menu isn't there in Mobile networks>GSM/3G networks. I just used "GSM and 3G" only, but somehow the "H" icon comes out instead of "3G" before this?
Therefore, i dont have any problems anymore with this handset.. (for now! LOL ^_^).
And thanks to SE for the updates, and PLEASE OMG! DON'T STOP MAKING NEW UPDATES LOL ^_^.
Peace!

Take it easy guys, I am sure we all have had our frustrations with this phone. Tyranusaurus was one of the frontier guys on here to update to R1FA035, and we all saw how he got screw in the ass from the first R1FA035 update (lol!). But like he said, the current R1FA035 is pretty good compared to other earlier firmware versions (R1FA035 provides acceptable balance in performance/battery/stability).
Considering how thin and compact the phone is, I think it is a reasonable cause that it will not be as fast as some of the bigger phones. Not to mention, it doesn't turn boiling hot after talking on it for a period of time like some phones. This phone use a slower processor, while some phones use processors that are fast, but get way too hot for comfortable usuage.
I can get about 3 days in battery life under frequent usage, and 5 days light use. From my knowledge, this is notably above average in today's cell phone market. I understand there are still people who are struggling with the phone even after updating to the latest firmware version. All I can say is F the people who made this possible. If the W910i did not exist, I would definately look at the Black Nokia 6500 Slide (it's wicked sick

thanks TJC for making it clear, and sorry @ feco cuz im like damn pissed with the real idiots lol, see them like almost everywhere

Answer to your question could be both No and Yes. Phone should be ON to communicate with the PC but it will remain OFF as far as normal phone functions are concerned. You can not make any call while updating, nor is it possible to use menu.
Updating the phone is not that complicated, just follow the instruction when you run the SEUS program. Make sure that your phone's drivers are already installed in your PC before strating SEUS.

I have some problems with my w910 R1FE035 firmware
1- I have set theme from my m2(memory stick) but after restarting phone (i mean turn it off and on) phone changes my theme by its default one why? should i set themes only from phone memory? does anybody have this problem?
2- after charging completely (about 3 hours) phone status doesn't show 100% it shows 99% and when i turn the phone off and plug charger to phone it says fully charged.
if anyone have this problem with this firmware we can assume that these are bugs of this firmware, anyway why in first page there is not any info about R1FE035?
P.S excuse me if these have been said from other user and i repeated again.
Posted by ZeneticX
R1FE?do u mean R1FA035 or theres a new fw out thr.
the theme bug is a common problem when your phone automatically reboots itself, but whn u turn it on/off by yourself,it shld stay as yr desired theme.
the 99% battery indicator is also a bug since the 1st fw.but its not much of a problem anyway, whn its 99% usually it means fully charged.

There are two methods - one using your PC and another using your handset. I have not tried with the handset as it involves extra cost for data transfer to the handset.
What is Sony Ericsson Update Service?
The Sony Ericsson Update Service application is a convenient way to easily update your phone with the latest available software to improve performance. You can access the Update Service application over the internet from your computer.
How do I use the Update Service application?
Once you have installed the Update Service application on your computer, double-click the Update Service icon that appears on the desktop and follow the instructions. If you need help installing Update Service, please refer to the Getting started guide. Update Service is an online application and needs access to the Internet when in use.

Don't cry! Though there is a possibility of bricking your handset I think probability is very very low.

you install then run the Sony Ericsson Update Service software on your computer, which then uses your internet connection to download the firmware to your computer. Only once the firmware is downloaded will the software commence updating the phone. So if your internet connection fails at this point it will not affect the update process.

Every time i use the handset to check for updates it says I´m using the latest version. But when connecting to SEUS there are updates available.
I don't trust the update in the handset any longer.

Which is better guys? A fully updated w910i or the new, well kinda new w890i ?

both have their shares of problems, so it boils down to wat fone ur looking for. slim and fun walkman? still depends on ur preference anyway. but the only thing that u cant control is luck - you may get a good set or a bad one, and warranty might or might not cover it.
Posted by terry04
Shud the updates be done in order? To stop the restarting prob must u start with the first updates or go straight to the latest R1FA035 and wil it cure all major probs with the w910i ?
Posted by strizlow800
You can go forward to the latest firmware. Doing 1 update, wipes everything that was in the phone before so previous updates become useless...
Posted by terry04
thanks , that makes sense. wat are the chances of me buying a problem free w910i nxt month? n shud i update it immediately wen i get it ? or shud i go 4 the w890i ?

strizlow800 is correct - it's not really "updating" so much as "replacement". You are completely replacing the phone firmware. In the windows analogy it would be sort of like updating a Windows XP SP1 to Windows XP SP2 by running a Windows XP SP2 installation over the top (rather than just running the SP2 update on it's own). It completely replaces the OS, but keeps user data and settings.
However on the phone, the user data and settings are in one area of memory (FS) and the os is in another area (MAIN). When you update you completely replace the MAIN, but the FS is mostly left alone.

so after i update the w910i i won't hav any probs with it. and how long wud the battery last if i use it non stop? one thing i really really wana know is the measurement of the screen in millimetres as in length and width plz help. it says 2.4 inches. but my old n70's screen is supposd to b 2.1 inches but measures in length but it comes to around 45 mm which isn't 2.1 INCHES
Posted by max_wedge
Well, I'm not having any problems with mine and I'm on the latest firmware.
screen size is measure diagonal I think.
Posted by tranced
yep, it is like that. even monitors is measured the same way.

wonder if they gonna release any more updates....

Screen size is measured diagonally but you should be able to calculate length using the no of pixels. Here I assume that each pixel is square - length = width. Anybody who knows it might be incorrect please enlighten us.
Using the number of pixels along length and width you can calculate the no of pixels along diagonal whose size you already know in mm. Then you can calculate size of each pixel which can be used to calculate length and width.
Posted by max_wedge
using pythagoras:
[320x320] + [240x240] = c x c, where c = the number of pixels on the diagonal.
therefore c = square root of [102400+57600]
therefore c = 400 pixels
400 pixels = 2.4in = 61mm
therefore 1 mm = 6.557 pixels or 1 pixel = 0.153mm
therefore:
width = 240 x 0.153 = 36.72mm
height = 320 x 0.153 = 48.96mm
Just to check my calculations, I measured with a ruler, and the results tally.
Gotta love Pythagoras hey? And who said what we learn in school has no use in the real world

My w910i runs smoothely. Using R1FA035
Posted by max_wedge
same here.
I do have one bug, and I'm not quite sure what sets it off - the activity menu stops working until I reset the phone. Also sometomes I get a 4-5 second delay exiting a screen (for example exiting out of a message I've viewed through activity menu)
It's only happened 2 or 3 times (on each bug) so far, so it's not concerning me, but I'd like to know what's causing it.
But other than not not a single problem. Menu is fast and smooth, even with audio playing.

Sorry I haven't been following this thread very closely, but has anyone upgraded their Vodafone W910i past R1EA030 yet?
I'm currently on this firmware and it's a hell of a lot worse for me than my phone's original R1DA038 which was near perfect apart from horribly bad frame rates in games.
Posted by max_wedge
Isn't R1FA035 the latest? This is the version I am on. My phone came with RCA029.
Posted by Muhammad-Oli
Is yours Vodafone branded? I just want to know if anyone has got any further than R1EA030 on a Vodafone W910i.

Yep vodafone. I davinci'd mine

You davinci'd it and stayed with the Vodafone branding?
Alright I'll try and update it as soon as I can. Hopefully I can improve my W910i before I sell it on.
Posted by max_wedge
I tried to debrand but it failed on the fs. I got rid of all the disgusting vodafone icons and graphics, but it didn't get rid of the undeletable predefined content or the "vodafone live" right softkey.
Posted by terry04
does it matter what network i'm on when i'm updating?
Posted by max_wedge
for ota, I don't know. Probably not.
For SEUS PC based updates, you will get the latest firmware that has been approved by the operator your handset is branded by - so you may not get the latest depending on your branding. If you are unbranded you will get the latest available firmware
