EH HELLO senninha? u CANT compare the W880 and W910. they both have different firmwares! and mine is quite good already among those W910 in the first batch (no hardware problems watsoever) or even major software problems that many ppl had to go to SE for. and i really get pissed off when i see some rich idiotic bastards change their phones just because it lags and they are idiotic enough and dont know whats SEUS...

Posted by ZeneticX
well we cant blame them.its still SE's fault, they should have tested the new fw b4 releasing it into the market.if im in the same situation as them,i would be piss off too, given the hefty price tag (whn 1st launched) and its status as a high end walkman phone.

i have a problem free W910i too, haven't had any random restarts since i bought it 6 months ago, except during multitasking and it lags the phone heavily.rly pity those who had problems wif the phone, and kudos to SE for releasing a phone without heavy testing.its quite a waste imo,dis could have been a rly good phone without those lag and hangs.

precisely. W880 runs on the A100 platform and W910 runs on the A200 platform, the first example of which was the K850. and because launching a new platform is a pretty major thing, i decided to wait it out on the sidelines a bit to avoid a lot of the initial teething problems. that really goes for any new product, not just phones. (not to mention that waiting a few months also brings the price down quite a bit )

i'm pretty happy with my W910 now and the only real problem i have with it is the lag when playing music. but given some more time, i trust that SE will sort it out. and i'm pretty confident that this is a phone i will keep for quite a while!

Isn't there a page where you can download the new firmware, and flash it manualy... my phone won't update with SEUS.. and still using a very old firmware version (R1DA038)..

My W910i constantly restarts around 10-15 times a day !! It happens some times while using the walkman player, or in texts, or in games and i dont multi-task i only use one aplication at a time, i only use my phone for 20 mins max a day, i tried clearing up my phone memory but that helped for a week max. Got latest firmware and that is what started of all the problems !!! Before the update 2-3 restarts a week, now this!! I updated it with the same firmware again using sony update service but no help !! Also on my last firmware update it caused a problem with the walkman player, there is now a 3second delay when clicking on a song to play , unfortunatley this is my second one !!! BUT, my second one was reconditoned (tight carphone warehouse) so maybe that was the problem !!! Any one got any ideas???

Posted by tyranusaurus
the 3-second delay is normal for the new firmware, but the restarts... i dont have that much lol. maybe you just got a bad set, which cant be helped.

guys, i hope this was answered already or something, but someone please help?

my friend paid 900usd for this phone. i could have fainted when i heard that! and the phone is giving a lot of problems.

It crashes a couple times i think but, the strange stuff that happens are:

1) Walkman player button and menu icon no longer opens walkman. Walkman feature isnt even opened! He said this happened when they placed another 2gb m2 in the phone

2) Media is the only way to access the items now. But when i placed an 8gb m2 in it, it loaded all the songs, etc in media and played movies, but now when we replace the original m2 that came with the phone, it does load any songs or anything from the original m2. If i re-insert my 8gb, it take forever to load the media and then crashes!

3) When you try to open games/applications, it says operation failed.

Guys you think i should try and update with SEUS? is this advised? i am afraid because although i updated phones via seus, i dont want to destroy his phone.

BTW his F/W is R1CA029_China

Please help me?

Wow, 900 usd! that's insane.
Also most of what you mention there is the characteristics of the first firmware of the phone- which made many people fall out with the handset.
i doubt that SEUS will destroy his phone IMO it'd doing that for him. SEUS will not void any warranty and will not change any files. so i would HIGHLY recommend/insist that an update is the best thing to do.

I had the exact same issues with my phone. Upgrading the phone with SEUS didn't fix them. I had to go to a SE Service Centre and have them reflash the phone. Now it works perfectly!

Posted by mibaksh
0blivion, thanks soo much for the reply bro. i know it wouldnt kill it, i jus wasnt sure about these db3150 phones . i will insist that when they come by my home next time to update it!

and yes, they paid 900usd! for the same package you would have paid for the 2gb package for 400usd. They knew nothing about phone prices. They could have bought two w910's!

Zito, Damn, here in trinidad we dont even have a SE service center. And well db3150 flashing isnt free yet! so they might have to wait. Im glad your phone works now. Because if i had a phone from SE that did all of that and i had to pay to fix it, i would surely switch to nokia. of course thats not the case, i dont own a db3150 phone... yet... maybe soon

Thanks soooo much guys for the reply! When next they visit i will update it with seus and see how that goes. I will let you all know.

Too lazy to read the thread, but just got R1FA035. This is not in OP.

Posted by madpierrot
is everyone else's speakerphone during calls much quieter than the loudspeaker during music?

i'm using R1FA035 and that's always bothered me. the speakerphone is so quiet i practically have to hold it next to my ear, but the music playback is good.

things i'd like to see added to sony media (other than lagless functionality):

1. when pressing up or down on the main walkman screen it should goto "track listing" so you can do a name search instead of having to search by it's number.

2. i'd love to have some type of softkey or key combination for two things - a. "more from this artist" b. "more from this album" - sometimes when i hear a song come on, it reminds me of another that i'd rather hear and it'd be so easy to find with those two functions and a great place to put these would be the two "gaming keys" at the top. they don't seem to serve much purpose.

3. auto-rotate function for pictures only. i hate when i'm driving or walking and the screen's rotated without my knowing so i hit up or down instead of next track etc.

4. ability to organize photos by folder instead of date. i also notice that some photos i've put on my phone refuse to be tagged. not sure why.

5. videos shot with the phone should be put under "videos" only. i took a video on the 4th of july and later found it under "photos." without noticing the film icon i deleted it thinking it was a terrible quality photo.

I updated my Orange branded W910 to R1FA030 on SEUS last week, and originally noticed an improvement in speed and reliability. Until last night.

The phone literally got stuck in a loop of reboots, doing about 10 before I pulled the battery out and waited 5 mins before plugging it back in, with the charger which for some reason seemed to cure it.

Every day I get more and more tempted to debrand it and flash it with the most up to date firmware (Orange always seem to be a bit behind) but I'm not convinced even this will solve the problems!

I bought the phone when it was relatively new (beginning of December 2007) and the woman in the Orange shop did warn me at the time they've had quite a few instability reports from customers, but I brushed this off thinking it was just people that didn't know how to use the phone properly!

Don't get me wrong, I've used SE phones for the past 10 years and I have a strong brand loyalty to them, but this is the first one I've had that's actually been problematic!

i'd take it back to the shops mate. just see what they can do for you maybe a replace or an upgrade. if that fails, take it to a service shop since it'll be still under warranty they should fix ur PCB and things for free. after that if u wanted to, debrand it and update new firmware although i think it must jst be the build quality of ur phone
agree on the loving SE part. nokia's interface doesn't tickle me, and the layout of the buttons and things is so disorganized and ugly!

Posted by James H
Oh it might be hardware related? I never actually thought about that, I might take it in and see what they can do for me then!

Cheers

Did anyone realise that pressing the volume key with the latest firmware no longer brings up the white background with the clock?

Also when plugging in my charger, the phone does not know how to dim and turn off the backlight. Weird huh?

Fcuk sony ericsson!

Posted by ZeneticX
none of the above

mine still does all of the above. try re-flashing your phone.

Posted by tyranusaurus
since my re-update i've got problems i never had before lol. games folder corruption, call log sometimes empties when the phone restarts by itself. ahaha. and alphabetical search in media also a bit problematic already lol

Posted by CKae
Just updated mine from Hong Kong to R1FA035. When trying to install Java game from memory card, it shuts down itself. Tried several times with the same result. But installed OK when copied the file to phone memory before installing.

Anyone else has the same problem?

Posted by James H
Well I finally got round to calling up Sony Ericsson today, they were very helpful and immediately gave me the details I needed to send the phone in for repair, the phone itself has been getting progressively worse over the past few days, it crashes whenever I make a call now!

Time to take a full backup and send it off! Do you reckon they'll actually fix the phone or send me a refurbed one? I can't imagine the components are that easy to take out and replace!

I also stumbled across this amusing image on a website, I think it needs the W910 in place of the K850i!

Posted by ZeneticX
i say both.although my W910i doesn't restarts after 7 months using it. but based on user feedbacks of K850i,the phone restarts quite frequently on some users too.

if u update ur w910i now with SEUS
u will have everything back like THEMES, APPS and GAMES that originally came with ur phone

if u already updated it will say "Latest software is already installed"
but after u install it again it will have different numbers on the firmware than b4

i got back my soundscape flash theme that i lost

**remember to back up your whole phone

Posted by tyranusaurus
holy cow it rocks! everything's damn good already, no more corruptions. no restarts so far, just that i have to reinstall the games that i installed before. lol. ^^

Posted by tyranusaurus
so far so good, no restarts at all! at some menus they now appear instantly instead of gradually coming out, games start immediately without the "please wait" thingy, closing of games are also immediate. my corrupted games folder is also solved, thanks to the update which resets all settings and clears all user data ^^

just remember to backup the stuff in ur fone, like smses if u want, but those in mem stick and contacts in sim are not affected.

same , everything is awesome so far, only problem is that , my phone has a FREAKING SCRATCH, its not perfect anymore

Posted by tyranusaurus
mine has tons of FREAKING SCRATCHES along its edge lol, and its caused by the plastic cover which is supposed to freaking protect it lol

the screen on my w910 it's f**** up, every week gets worse... started with a line across the screen, now also one vertical line and a "leak" on the right corner.

this is my first Sony Ericsson, I made the switch as everybody told me they were better but when this one dies I'm switching back.

When was R1FA035 released?

I just updated with sues now.

Posted by tyranusaurus
erm, thats a general question, cuz the original R1FA035 was released like last month, but recently there was a "newer" version of the same firmware on SEUS and its awesome, and i just saw something called "video ringtone" in which u can set ur picture or video as ur ringtone LOL. pretty neat, eh?

Posted by Lyceum
Ah, I wondered why there was an update so soon, not that I'm complaining. Where's the video ringtone setting? I can't seem to find it.

Posted by tyranusaurus
u can find it when u go to settings and choose ur ringtone there. the pictures media browser also has a new effect, when u click the picture it'll expand to fit ur screen, and when u press the back button, it'll shrink back into place lol.

Posted by ZeneticX
video ringtone is present since R1CA039 lol

Posted by tyranusaurus
lol, but what i can comfirm is that picture slideshow and file manager have slight impovements lol. for pic slideshow the pic is animated when u click on it and also when u press back and when u choose memory status under file manager the pictures now have a thumbnail beside and the themes have a new icon lol. performance is amazing with no restarts at all!

hi guys..

i have re-update my phone to new version of R1FA035 yesterday. wow, i'm quite impressed with this update lol.^_^.

1) no restarts since 24Hours updating it.
2) picture viewing now have "tumbnail-zoom" effect which is kinda cool.
3) i got my original theme back which is lost due to master reset. yayyyy.. I just love Soundscape and Eclipse theme. lol
4) got some new ringtones added in Ringtones folder now. Lots of it too!

but still my HSDPA menu isn't enable yet in mobile network>gsm/3G network. T_T

finally, i guess i'm quite satisfied with the updates now. AT LEAST SOMETHINGs CHANGE.. LOL..Haha.. ^_^

Posted by pete910i
i agree that FA035 is definately high quality firmware compared to the bad run the phone has had. although i miss the folder searching by letter option since my music is ordered by artist nd its ver hard to scrow down 120ish folders

Posted by ZeneticX
based on all yr comments here (wif the added contents + new features).i decided to reupdate my phone wif the "new" R1FA035 and heck, wat a load of stuffs dis firmware had in store for us.having fun wif my soundscape theme now, which i've lost since i bought my phone.

Posted by Vongola-Sky
hahas me too.. im now using the soundscape theme also.. in the previous R1FA035 i have random restart problem but now on the new R1FA035. i solve most of the problem Cheers

Posted by madpierrot

re-updated:
1200-9135
R1FA035
080527

its basicly the same thing,jz tht dis later version have some added contents like original themes, extra ringtones and some pic.

in the same time i have a bad feeling dis might be the last firmware update we're going to get frm SE.i might be wrong thou,we'll jz have to wait and see.

I just updated mine from R1EA033 to R1FA035 yesterday. After I first updated the firmware, the lcd & keypad would turn on at an instant when i open the slider. But after restarting the phone, the 2sec delay for the lcd & keypad is back when opening the slider.

Is there like a 2sec delay for you guys when you open the slide on R1FA035?

Posted by tyranusaurus
nah its like that... also depends on situation, like whether u slide open the phone when the screen's still visible on standby or the screen is totally black. for the latter its the same (2 secs) sometimes but sometimes its also quite fast lol.

R1A30 On O2.

Can't update to the newest yet

Posted by TJC
thanks tyranusaurus. I guess we really have the same situation here. For the 2sec delay I meant waiting for the phone to go completely black (for about a minute or two) then open. If i open the slide while the phone is dimmed or just went black it is quite fast for the lcd & keypad to light up.

I just reapplied the same firmware and it seems to be an updated one on O2 as well. I noticed all the improvements that have been mentioned here in this thread but it's listed as R1FA030.

Backup your phone before applying the update because it wipes everything stored on the phone.

yap... mine also like that.... its too quiet. and i have to hold it near my ear... like no different between speakerphone and not...

is it failure to the hardware or that's normal?

Posted by superleeds27
Okay, well i have done what you said.

Re-applied the firmware.

I'll see if i can notice any changes

I'm On O2 Aswell

OK, I know that this might sound a little noobish, but it has always bugged me. Do you really have to make sure the battery is fully charged and then remove it and re-insert it before updating the software? What happens if you don't do that? Why is it necessary in the first place? Thanks for your replies!

Posted by senninha
your battery doesn't necessarily have to be 100% charged, but i strongly suggest that you make sure it is at least at the 50% mark. the last thing you want to happen is to run out of power during a firmware update, which may result in a bricked phone.

although it normally takes me about 15 minutes to update SE non-smartphones, some people have problems and take much longer to update so i guess you want to make sure you have enough power for any eventuality.

as for taking the battery in and out, it allows the phone to completely reset its memory and therefore avoid any corruption or other problems during the update. if you notice, sometimes after updates, especially with hacking software, you sometimes can't get the phone to power up until you take the battery in and out. it allows for a full reboot, if you like.
