@diabu:
You should exit your Sony Ericsson Pc Suite, because that puts your phone into mass storage. At least that was the culprit in my case.
As for the latest firmware, I cannot find R1EA033 on SEUS but I successfully updated to R1EA030. The improvements are pretty much the same as for everyone else, only I noticed a few issues which could also very well be related to my unit, I don't know, nobody else reported them.
First, the little G and E letters are not alway present above the network bars. They sometimes appear after using Internet but are soon gone again. EDIT: I forgot to mention that the volume bars and track notifications also sometimes disappear and a restart is needed to bring them back. However, they're pretty soon gone again. This is really frustrating, the phone seems to have a mind of its own.
There are also no background issues while using the media player in landscape mode on my unit, but the activity menu button sometimes stops working. A restart clears this issue.
Also there have been no restarts for me, and I specifically stressed the phone running 4 java apps and media player. It was slower but no crash.
Anyways, I just wish SE would speed up the phone a little bit in future firmware version. Just my two cents...

@andrew.bell
yes the phone is turned off - battery is full charged - disconect and reinsert battery then pressing c b4 plugging the usb conn to my phone - but now SE is not telling me to release the C key instead the phone goes to MASS STORAGE mode..
actually i have been updating my phone on the previous FW's and there were no problems, its only now that i I CAN'T UPDATE to the latest R1EA033
anyways i'll also try to exit PC SUITE first b4 ill run SEUS .. but i'll have to wait for my battery to get drained and fully charge it b4 i'll do that
THANKS THANKS

@f.b;
Ha yeah i forgot to add the volume controls stop working and it is stuck at the same volume. But its getting less than when i first had it. ( ether that or its restating to much for it to happen)
@ diabu;
What OS are you using? Try reinstalling everything. That tends to work for me occasional, Otherwise i have to pull out the cable when to phone buzzes to go into mass storage and try again. It often takes over 70 attempts to get it to work that way. However if i go over a mates house it always connects first time.
So its not a problem with your phone its with your PC and the drivers etc. Also Vista can be a bit of a pain if your using that, but it does work

R1EE001 are you sure?? AE033 was only a week or so ago, then there was EC01, and now your reporting EE :S What network are you on?
Could you take a picture or the service menu, just to prove that this is possible. Not calling you a lier, it's just that it's really hard to believe.

I don' think Trigz is misreading his firmware. I saw a webpage similar to this one ( http://www.my-se.pl/topics164/1182.htm ) the other day, and it listed many latest "branded firmwares" from different mobile service provider companies that look similar to what Trigz has posted. However, there is a lack of information regarding those firmwares.
I am currently on the R1EA030 firmware, however, to my surprise there are very little response to the massive battery drain with this new firmware on web forums. I was on R1CA029 for about 3 months before i updated, and I could use the phone up to 4 to 5 days on a single charge. After updating to R1EA030 firmware, the battery will only last for 1 to 2 days.
Even though, I am please with the speed boost in R1EA033 but the battery drain is too much of a pay off... I know I can't be the only one experiencing this issue, anyone else agree on this battery heartache?

R1DA038- ive got this firmware on my phone already i just updated it from using update service
so can someone tell me ive heard R1DA038 is the latest firmware for w910i
is it the latest?
someone reply to my question plz
Posted by 0blivion
@ GameKing ;
If you could be bothered to read this thread or even the first post it would tell you the answer to that.
R1DA038 is not the latest for the phones, its been available since December 26th. The latest that i am fully aware of is R1EA033, with unconfirmed versions eg R1EC001 etc
However it all depends on; your network? and, where you are?
Posted by _!GameKing!_
im in england and im on t-mobile
Posted by 0blivion
Well then welcome the "let's kill t-mobile for keeping us on R1DA038" club.
In that case your stuck on DA for a bit as t-mobile has yet to update. I Don't know what its happening ATM as my w910i bricked its self, but given that a mate on vodafone has updated to R1EA then it shouldn't be long before T-mobile do to.

Im On O2
And i cannot find R1EA033
I have R1EA030, Says its the latest!
Posted by _!GameKing!_
i knew i shudnt have got the phone on t-mobile lol but i had no choice it was the cheapest price £90 for the phone but the others were £230 you wudve done the same lol
Posted by 0blivion
I'm on flext 30 for £25 a month and the handset was free. So yeah i did do the same.
@superleeds;
That's not surprising as R1EA033 is for unbranded phones are far as i an aware.
Posted by _!GameKing!_
no no no no no no no lol i got the handset for the whole £90 and that was the final price i own the phone now and dont need to pay them anything its not monthly pay not yearly not even on contract i bought it for that price
im probably the luckiest guy for getting this phone at that price

I read in a w910i forum that indicates that R1EA033 is actually the western-europe version of R1EA030, if anyone can confirm this it will be great. I haven't found the change logs for R1EA033 anywhere on the web, I will wait for those before I decide to update.
So guys... no one here on R1EA033 is experiencing heavy battery drain issues? Or this problem is only noticeable for those who upgraded straight from R1CA029 to R1EA033? 4-5 days of standby down to 1-2 should be pretty noticeable

Well, I haven't been able to update to R1EA033, but since my update to R1EA030 I have also noticed this increased power drain. Maybe not as much as in your case, but definitely, the battery drains faster then with R1CA029.
Posted by gregface
I updated to R1EA033 last night, it seems the tiniest bit quicker than the previous version.
I have noticed that the menu icons appear in a smoother way when return to main menu by pressing back. (this may have always happened).
Also, this firmware has track skipping ability in walkman with accelerometer now. Hold the walkman button and shake phone once to one side will make it skip forward and back through tracks.
Found a bug when setting the date, If you press C to cancel what you have entered it will not delete the last character you entered but instead revert to 01/Jan/2000.
Posted by _!GameKing!_
even with the old firmware on the walkman w910i did skip tracks by holding the walkman button and shaking it they had that already lol
if anyone thinks otherwise then post but im sure they can skip tracks even with old firmware

old firmware could randomly skip to a new track by shaking yes, but none (other than prototype FW) could skip forward and backwards through a tracklist by flicking to one side.
Perhaps I should have made that more clear in my last post.
Posted by f.b
I can assure you that is also possible on R1EA030

No, this has always been possible as far as I know. My R1DA038 firmware does this, and it was always reported as being able to do this in reviews, etc.

Thanks F.B. for your feedback. I will do some more research to see why my w910i is eating battery like crazy. I will post my findings if i am able to find the cause.
Posted by f.b
I also found something interesting in SE-NSE forums. In this thread here a user has posted a list of firmwares generated directly from SEUS data. Here is the list for w910:
W910: R1CA039 R1DA038 R1DA039 R1EA030 R1EA033 R1EC001 R1ED001
So how come we cannot update to R1ED001? Am I missing something here?

OMG R1ED001. Where the hell is that for? Anyone on T-mobile uk had any luck updating from R1DA038 yet?
One this that i am wondering, are SE going to update the w910i and k850i to use the new menu layouts.
Still waiting for my replacement handset after my w910i decided that the left soft key going bright red was all that the handset wanted to do.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it. So, if you do not have any major problems, then yes, it is good. And as I have already posted, that version is one of the latest versions according to the SEUS data. You should be fine.
Posted by Ixalus
"if it ain't broken, don't fix it"... I certainly like to update all my software/firmware. Be it broken or not. There's a reason for updates, they don't just put it up for the sake of it.
SE can suck my big fat ****. Expected so much more from this bloody phone. It's going to be last time I get a phone from them. Bloody thing has so many imperfections if it was a person it'll be uglier than a camel's arse.

I have a very strange problem with this phone. After upgrading the phone to R1EA030 the bluetooth connection with my car (HFP profile) goes down after a short and random period. It is impossible to retrieve the call, or turn the bluetooth off for a while. I can only reconnect after a soft reset.
I upgraded to R1EA033, and the problem is still there.
I got the a SonyEricsson Service Centre, got my phone reflashed to R1EA033 from scratch (they claimed it might solve the problem) and the problem is still there.
My W910i is sitting on my bedside table and I downgraded myself to my reliable z610i.
Do any of you experience any problem with the bluetooth stack? Do any of you have any idea of how to tackle this problem? Is there a way of downgrading the phone to a reliable firmware version (reliable as far as Bluetooth HFP profile is related)?

Its doing my head in...

Same here, I just tried to update to R1EA033 2 days ago but Update Service shows that I am using the latest version
I wonder what is the difference between Western Europe w910i Firmware and firmware in other countries? Is it because there are different hardware or supported services?
Posted by f.b
My guess is that the main difference is in the language packs.

I bought a Def Jam Edition W910 5 days ago and is running 030 firmware.
On the first day within an hour of using it. The phone restarted after I restored my contacts.
And now when I've just come to put it on charge. I plug the charger in and the phone wont charge.
Bloody great as its now my only phone. I do like the W910 but I'm starting to wish I hadn't sold my W960 now.

I'm getting quite annoyed with my 1 week old W910. Have been experiencing problems that were apparently fixed in earlier updates. 3 times today the phone has hung up automatically after 10 minutes during a call. It randomly disconnects from my SE HBH-GV435 while on a call. Constant freezing and rebooting. Internet browser hangs often is some of the things i've experienced. Oddly my girlfriends not had anything go wrong with hers which was bought on the same day.

My phone just reset on me. Sigh. Absolutely useless. Don't even bother calling helpdesk, they don't know shit. Just ask you to update to the latest firmware using SEUS, and they think they're doing a favour sending you the link to SEUS. Like we don't know how to already. Shithouse.

They don't know what you don't know. Tell them you have tried SEUS and the phone still cuts out. Tell them you have had 4 or more phones and then tell them you would like to exchange the phone for a different sony erriccson phone. I am sure they will if thats what you want. I know these phones are a nice design but the firmware sux.

Mine doesn't cut out as much as it did, and the problem with it restarting rarely happens.
The phone functioning is still sluggish when playing music, and trying to operate the phone!

R1EA030 finally available for Vodafone Ireland W910i. About time!
Posted by TJC
After some extensive research, i have discovered that the battery life for the phone has been significantly reduced in latter SE firmwares. Reading dozens and dozens of reviews online from w910i owners, it seems that those that report poor battery life are on the latest R1EA030 or R1CA038/39 firmware. At first, I thought maybe there are different manufacturers for the w910i, but after talking to SEUS customer rep I was told that all w910i comes from essentially the same place.
To me, this is gay. In my opinion, mobility should be one of the top priorities for a mobile phone. If I am talking on it and worrying that it will run out of batteries and having to recharge it frequently then why don't i just use a landline phone?
When I was on R1CA029, the battery was giving me about a good 3 days with 2 hours of walkman and mild gaming daily (5days with mild use of walkman and gaming daily). Now I am on R1EA030 and I am getting less than 2 days (sometimes even less than 1) if i am using walkman the way I used to and receiving calls. Also, I have selected all the power saving options that i can find (ie bluetooth off, GSM only, brightness down...etc) but still no help. No matter how conservative i am in using my w910i i am losing an average 10~15% every 8 hours (even if i am in standby mode).
Another reason that not many people experienced a major drop in power is latter w910i handsets were shipped with R1CA038/39 or R1EA030 firmwares due to restart problems.
Yes, the R1EA030 firmware has made the scrolling of menus a bit faster and smoother, but it is no where helpful in the battery performance you lose as result of it. Sorry about my rant, but I am just frustrated that I often have to find a place to recharge my phone during an inconvenient time of the day, and there are no local service centers i can go to in North America to get my firwmare restored. If you don't mind, share your two cents about battery life.
Posted by SilveR.
With R1EA030 my Battery drains much faster than the old version.. They need release a new firmware to improve the battery.. mine only stands around 3days now.. firmware before R1EA030 could stay around 6days..
As I Know I can't see much different between the old and new firmware, only drawback is battery life is much worser...
