How easy is it to de-brand my K850 with Da Vinci? I only have the data cable in the box do I need a specific one? And can I do it on my mac or do I have to use the dreaded PC?

Thanks

Kai

Very easy

10euro to do it..
I just flashed my W910 from Nordic to Asian Language pack..
10 min, everything works great

I don't think the client supports the Mac check on their forums.

I think it will work with MAC.

If you debrand and change languages etc.. If you get drivers works, then there is no any problems..

I decided to use my PC to be safe, it does not seem to work, should it work with the bundled USB cable?

Have you got the USB Flash Drivers installed on the PC???

I've used DaVinci many times (debranding and unlocking a W800, debranding and unlocking a K800, unlocking and model changing a K800 different to a K810, debranding, unlocking, then rebranding a K610) and curently I only have one issue with them. They don't have any generic firmware for the K850 so debranding cannot be done yet. When they get the generic firmwares for the K850 I'll be a much happier bunny.

Your in-the-box data cable is all you need. As someone already said, check the forums for MAC compatibility. I've had a quick check on their site just now and it doesn't look like it is to me. Try it and see

I tried to but the link is dead on their site, has anyone got them?

They say they can on the site which is why I bought credit, so what will happen if I do manage to run this?

Trying to but I cannot get my phone to connect to the client, it is driving me insane! I cannot install the USB drivers so I think this is the problem

I have now managed to run the debrand, and it does not work, the procedure was sucessful (apparently) but there is no difference, the icons are the same and I still have a Vodafone startup and shutdown screen, I am seriously unhappy.

well, it support unbrand. Did you choose right language pack.

I did upgrade mine W910 to Asian language, Had a Kent Edition, that got a special Icon for internet.. that was replaced by SE original internet Icon..

And phone works awesome .

Toke me 5 min install the usb driver.. that Vista was not like XP, but I did it..

@kai
As I said before there aren't any generic firmwares available yet. The client does support debranding of K850 but only should the correct firmware be available. There should be generic(completely debranded) firmware coming soon with DaVinci and it'll be clear which ones they are because they'll be called generic. What you've probably done is flash your phone with a newer vodafone firmware or used a firmware with voda customisation. If it would be helpful to you I'll message up on here when the generic firmwares are available through DaVinci or elsewhere and point in the right direction as to exactly which firmware you'll need from the list. I'm monitoring for the firmware for myself anyway.

That sounds like what I have done, I have just restarted my phone and there is not a Voda startup or shutdown, so it must have done something, oh well that's £8 wasted!

If you can let me know when it is available I would really appreciate it.

I couldn't stand another minute with my phone crippled with the Vodafone firmware so... despite a proper 'generic' firmware not being available yet I just ran DaVinci (todays version of the client) and used firmware - "CUSTOMIZED UK/ BLUE (1202-5694 | WESTERN-EUROPE)"

RESULT!!

ITS PERFECT!

I'm MEGA chuffed. Only took about 5 mins. Its a revelation... I may start to like the phone now!!

Sorry, no, am too busy playing marble madness!!

And amazed at how vodafone ruined the phone so successfully.

Posted by spikeyjac
how ungrateful lmao
And is it now unbranded?

Posted by Ricky D
Go on then I'll give it a try....

later (took me more than 5 minutes because it had to download about 80mb of firmware files)...

It turns out that the firmware labelled "CUSTOMIZED UK/ BLUE (1202-5694 | WESTERN-EUROPE)" is actually generic and unbranded and for the UK, going through the service tests showed me so. However, I'm confused as to why the DaVinci client doesn't show that firmware when you select to view only generic firmwares or why they've labelled it differently to how they've named previous unbranded firmware. If there are any DaVinci team members here on esato please speak now.

I'm really amazed at how bad the Voda firmware was. It was immensely slow by comparison to the unbranded firmware.

@SE-Naz
I'll do some pictures when I get to work (probably instead of working) you want anything in particular?

So will this "customised" firmware let you use the SE site for updates now?

I've got credits ready to remove the vodaphone branding (yeuk) .

Posted by Kaiser_Man
Just to confirm, this removes the vodafone icons? I don't want to waste another 10 credits on this if it does not do the job

Kai

Posted by Kaiser_Man
That works brilliantly!!

Pics...

GREAT!

But....

Can you now update via the Sony Ericsson site as a generic phone??

Posted by Kaiser_Man
There is an option to in the general settings tab, so I presume so.

Kai

Posted by Ricky D
You beat me to it with the photos.

It seems to me the 'customised' bit refers to customising it to the UK i.e. with language packs you'd expect if you bought it direct from in the UK or western Europe and in the Data Accounts under internet settings it has preloaded all the settings for major UK networks., this is also part of the customisation. Perhaps SE have never released a truly generic K850 firmware, they've customised the firmware for each region that the phone is sold.

@MJH74
I'm taking it that when realease newer firmware it'll update through SEUS and still be debranded.

Posted by mjh74
I'm hoping so too Ricky, I think I'll go ahead and give it a try now

Posted by SE-Naz
@Kaiser_Man

Congrats...

Best thing to do would be to try on SEUS and see what your phone gets recognised as to see if it will work...

Cheers for the pics

Ok, I've just done mine and it worked with no problems

Posted by dragon546
Kai which version of Firmware did you use on Davinci I get my K850 over the weekend its unlocked but on Voda I want to flash it so it uses generic firmware?

Posted by Kaiser_Man
I used the one called "CUSTOMIZED UK/ BLUE (1202-5694 | WESTERN-EUROPE)"

Kai

Posted by dragon546

Posted by spikeyjac
How much is 8 euros in pounds lmao

Posted by dragon546
£5.75

Posted by spikeyjac
Damn its 10 euros
Hmm does this make it seem alot better kai?

Posted by SilveR.
How ever, 10 euro is worth it..
You get almost new fresh phone

Posted by spikeyjac
Mmm i suppose

From the Voda branding to the unbranded handset the improvements is amazing. The spped of the UI is much faster and the icons look nicer. Also settings in the menu that some networks disable are in with the unbranded software. For example Settings -> General -> Update service I'm pretty sure doesn't appear in the Voda branded firmware and it adds the function of updating the firmware direct from SE without having to plug into your PC and spend €10 with DaVinci. I'd say €10 is relatively cheap for the debranding.

Posted by deez
Just done mine as a first time 'flasher' - first time I've been that fed up with the voda branding to bother.

Same FW as the above, works great, much less 'clunky' through the menus and stuff, yep worth it.

Now just need the 039 version released..

Posted by spikeyjac
How long did it take?

Posted by deez
On the davinci timer, 14 minutes for me.

Posted by Kaiser_Man
Me too, and I have noticed the UI works much better when debranded, I am really happy with mine

Kai

Posted by spikeyjac
Wicked think I'm going to do it later
