are there any other free web browsers for mobile aside from opera (mini 4 killed my w880i) that can be used or am I stuck with having to risk opera mini 4 on my k750i as well ? I dont need to have my k750i meet the same fate that my w880i did. thanks

Mini Opera 4 killed my new W910i as well! It gave an "Application Failed" error every time I tried to access Java. I had to take to a local SE service point where they reflashed it. The 4 version also drives my 6120c crazy!

ouch.. sorry to hear it killed your w910i as well. my w880i is in the se shop now hopefully can pick it up today. wonder why they put out an app that is killing phones. emailed them but NO REPLY. oh well back to subject .. are there any other browser apps available that wont kill a phone ? and are free ? yes I admit I hate to pay for software..

My N80 has some Mini map browser can't you get it for those ?

Thats very odd. J2me is highly stable - up until the point where crashing a phone PURPOSELY is tough. The worst I've ever had was an app giving me a wsod (and causing the phone to restart) whenever I tried to transfer it to phone memory/memory stick or vice versa...

Please update this thread when you get your phones back. I'd like to get to the bottom of this.

Oh and can you describe exactly what these apps did?

Opera mini works fine on my k550i

@ Yoruichi

Opera Mini-4 is working perfectly on my N80 so im suprised its messing up Java phones.
@ Miss.UK
You mean Web (Safari Web Browser)? Thats built-in to our Nokia Symbian s60v3 OS9 phones its not downloadable especialy not for Java phones.

I've been using opera mini (various versions, mostly the hacked ones) on various phones, including a k800 for over a year now. It's very stable. I highly doubt
it caused your phones to fail, it's more likely that your firmwares were buggy. I'm typing this from a k300 using opera mini mod 2.04!

Opera Mini 4 is without question the best browser for Java. It's perfect!

Try teashark. Its like opera mini. Though I still fail to understand how
opera mini could cause such problems...

Opera has to be sued for releasing bad final software product! my phone didn't crash, but it persist to tell me there was no connection even though i do have!!! or they should debug the software before many people could get errors in their rock solid J2ME phones for the first and only time!!! else Opera will lost it's glory in mobile browsing

Posted by Greggy
Btw those 2 are online ones they both support downloads and webxcope supports uploads as well

what if the fault is in the phones they put the application on? they'd better sue the phones because of having bad firmwares instead of OM

I also have the same opinion

I am on EDGE network and I am getting speeds of upto 90kbps when i use my opera mini 4.0 in my k550i .........

w880i users .......... How can a java application corrupt the f/w files ?????

better investigate soon

I have w880i and opera 4! It works perfect ... I think that java apps can`t crash phone , or could they ?

Posted by Yoruichi
my w880i was working perfectly fine prior to downloading mini 4. this is exactly what occured 1. went to the opera mini site 2. clicked link and downloaded mini 4 final version to phone saved in applications. 3. exited browser went to applications file opened mini 4 started installation at this point phone totally froze up with white screen. could not exit or return to menu 4. tried removing batt and reinstall then turn phone back on-and nothing

Posted by Yoruichi
aside from white screen. so took it to se shop picking it up tommorrow as was busy yesterday. thanks will check out the ones that you guys mentioned and give them a try as at present I am far from happy with opera. they still havent replied to my emails either. am curious as to what they have to say...if they even say anything.

Buddy, my phone never refuse to connect on whatever J2ME internet based application i installed in it. even the previous versions of opera did not malfunction, just this faulty software

My K810 R6BC002 APAC with Opera Mini 4 Final : no problem at all. Perfectly working.

How can you sue someone for free software? And besides, you agree with the EULA before you DL and use the software.

If you must use a java 3rd party browser, why not stick to OM3 as it's flawless in my opinion.
