PK, just out of interest, did you see more than one prototype for the P5? If so did you have a preference?

Posted by PeterKay
the latta is the better

nuff said.

Posted by Tigershark42
So you are saying they decided on a final form factor, and it IS better. I doubt youd be able to tell me whether its a slider or not. I just hope its not a flip or swivel.

(BTW the garmin is obviously an iphone wannabe- Dont like it)

Can't say much as you're aware, but its worth the wait. Should be announced pretty soon.

I am holding out on getting a new phone just because of this thread and even more so because of what you stated above PK.I should be out of college by the time it is on the store shelves with quad band a 5mp camera,128mb ram, 3inch screen, WiFi g,HSDPA,3.5 mm jack that makes the N95 look like a TDMA phone.
If not I will be

@PK
Good, I hope your opinion/statement about new P is the same as mine will be
@Tigershark42
I'm willing to pay high price for a device with highest standards in all fields. My "dream" would be perfect business + great media, so something like an ultimate solution, no COMPROMISE. But I'd rather sacrifice great video than good Word.
BUT I'm actually hoping to have it all
I'm absolutely into mobile highend devices, that I can use computer just for music making and most of other activities on Phone/Pda.

@P.K.!
One practical question:

Is the device casing of the P more scratch proof or is it just black painted!

Thanks!

The K850 camera is great. I hope P5 uses the same module as it does!

I think that the P5i should get a much better camera module than the K850i.

k850 camera sucks big time!

I too am waiting to upgrade because of this thread. I've been selling my old phones to scrape up enough money for Pnext cause it will be very expensive. I hope not too expensive as i can't justify paying 800 usd for a phone regardless me its greatness. I look forward to the announcement next month. I just hope i can afford it.

Posted by bodeh6
I hope that the P5i doesn't use the K850i camera. It should use the 5.1 MP ‘Exmor’ sensor from SE japan phones W61s and SO905iCS.

With the low $ rate I am sure you can not afford it!

This is a good question--I want the phone to be protected as much as possible out of the box, as I generally don't like cases.

I also hope the screen is that mineral glass stuff the K850i has.

As @doministry has stated, a business phone also needs decent music and multimedia capabilities. OK, so it doesn't need to have the walkman shake and stir feature but should have good sound quality and video playing for long trips on the road. Security options are important as well, in case of forgotten or lost devices, after all we would be carrying sensitive information in it.
A flip really does provide the most ergonomic way of using this device in phone mode, so I would prefer it, although as long as it doesn't have a P1 style keyboard I will make the effort to adjust.
One more thing, after my P990 experience I will definitely not be in the first bunch to buy this device. I'll give it six months or so, let's see how it turns out.

I suspect the same. it's a sad day in america.

@makbil
If everything goes well with my earnings this year, I'll buy it soon after release,
so you can rely on my tests -:)

Well I have been reading this thread from the beginning and I don't think I have posted any comments.

So firstly only 10 days to 3GSM!

Secondly how soon after its announcement can we expect to see it in the shops?

it should have at least 1/3.2" Sony HAD CCD sensor. i don't like CMOS if SE could offer us CCD and in fact they did it already with the S700.

Probably 3-4 months after the announcement.

Posted by OffLineR
Probably around september it will be all around the world as P1i

Posted by GTommy
P1 was presented during april 2007 and W960 was presented during may 2007. P1 reached the market in the end of july 2007 while W960 reached the market in december 2007... Nokia N82 reached the market 2 weeks after it was pressreleased... There is no rule for how long time it takes for a phone to reach the market...But Im sure SE wanna release it as fast as possible....However nasty bugs that are discovered late in the development process can delay things...Watch AMD erratum...for their Phenom processors...

Posted by makbil
@doministry, I'll look forward to your review, especially your impressions on daily use
The Garmin device looks interesting. We may be lucky enough to have a number of competing devices to chose from by the time P5 hits the market.

don't get your hopes high about that but i hope they will

Posted by doministry
I don't feel Pnext beeing presented in 10 days, it's just my impression.

Posted by Muhammad-Oli
Neither do I. But I think its because there has been months of build up to it and it has always seemed so far away that we are not used to it being a few days away. Like it feels like its still far away from announcement. Perhaps there was just too much build up surrounding this one device.

Posted by doministry
But it will be certainly presented some time soon.

Posted by Tigershark42
It should be released a couple of months after announcement. Remember that the W960 was a bad example of that because the release had to be postponed due to bugs on it. If everything goes according to plan, a couple of months should do it. I think SE will release SOMETHING big at 3GSM, be it Paris, Beibei, Maria, whatever. Something higher end will come along. Remember that SE has a new man in charge now.

Posted by Muhammad-Oli
With 172 pages and 2578 posts spanning back almost 3 months in just this thread alone, where there have been no proper pictures and not much in the way of 100% confirmed rumours, do you guys think this is probably the most anticipated SE phone so far?

It seems to me that it is, especially because recently there haven't been many high end SE phones to keep us busy, so we're all looking forward to the next big thing. Was there this much hype surrounding previous "big releases" such as the T610, S700i, K750i/W800i, P900i or anything?

Posted by bodeh6
The only thing close was the often delayed announcement of Sofia/K850i and that phone turned out to be not worth the hype for the most part (nothing innovates, just K800 with bigger camera, worse pic quality, HSDPA, and bugs).

I hope that SE pulls off announcing and launching the P5i and BeiBei in a timely manner with high quality, innovations, and little to no bugs HW and FW. Plus if they they have Triband HSDPA/QuadBand GSM on their new smartphones, this will be the first smartphone since the P910a almost 4 years ago that will work properly in North America.

Posted by Zed@CPS
I would say P800 and P990 produced the biggest anticipation so far. This current one is nothing (yet). May be the real hype requires announcement and knowing the specs.

Posted by GTommy
Why are people so pessimistic about SE not releaseing the next P series...For sure they will...but at least Jospehine and Tyra will be released during 3GSM...and hopefully Paris too...
Be patient

lol ,there's no high end device we have seen from se after p990(2005),or highly professional device with full qwerty keyboard.Three years and no flagship level business device is ridiculous. So stop advising to be patient.Announcement and then release and then availability on local stores, price to get stabilized.Firmware to be relased.Bugs to be fixed.Im sure it will be almost 2009 jan to hope for stable and bug free and reasonably priced p series

itouch you are so right. Meanwhile Nokia will probably be release dozens of N and E Series phones in 2008.

When is mobile congress??is it before or after 3gsm??

What are the possible competition for P5??i could only think of the following..
Nokia s60 touch(demo will be showed in mobile congress)
some HTC with new WinMO or android..
iPhone2...heard some rumors that it will come up in 2008.
garmir navifone..not a big competition IMO..but nevertheless

dell with their android??
anything from moto/samsung/lg??

Mobile World Congress IS 3GSM, it was renamed. It starts Feb 11, but SE has their announcement the evening before on Feb 10. 9 More day chaps!

Posted by dr_thug
Thanks for the clarification

Posted by makbil
Just announcing a new super duper phone is not enough. SE will have to come through with the device that matches the specifications. So far, after P910, SE has failed miserably. If SE managers are just a little bit wiser, they should know that they can't afford another fiasco like the P990. Announcing and selling a product that is not ready is the one thing SE should avoid at all costs.

I have seen somebody with this exact phone on the train and it looked SERIOUS. She was using it with he right fingers, touching the screen (which i didnt get a chance to check out). For some strange reason though it had a walkman logo on the back. Everything else looked like the photoshop on pg1. However, my only comment is that its a little too big. Still wont stop me from makin purchase.
