I hope Mizzle is right. How likely do you think is it that this handset will be unveiled at 3GSM, or at least by then?

Well currently the rumor is 3 UIQ announced in week 6, which is Mobile World Congress/3GSM is. I hope they are all announced together.

Thanks Mizzle, rock on. (Im an engineer if you need any help just ask lol).

I've got a question for those who were fortunate enough to have actually seen and used the so called P5. I'm saying "so called" because how do you know that it isn't a prototype for some other model? Aren't all SE prototypes supposed to be labeled "P123" ?
Sealover has done a remarkable job with his picture but I really hope the P990 successor is not like this. There is just nothing special about this design, I could just go for the next generation HTC TYTN and get the original instead of a look alike.

The software states the model.

Just wondering, if the new UIQ phones were announced in February, then the release would be around June/July, is it?

Posted by razec
i think UIQ phone's season are within July or october so i wont expect any UIQ phones there

From the time when SE anounce a new phone it is not a fixed time until it reach the market...for the P1 it took about 3 months but for the w960 that will be a very short lived phone it took more than 7 months..

so PK, u got ur p5i back huh ?

@Mizzle

What's your take at Sealover's latest rendering?

I haven't got the phone

Sealover's design is really look classy and sleek.
but it is not all about look. for example: using the d-pad on this model and holding it in one hand will be very difficult.

i think if the screen aspect was 4:3 and there was more room for the d-pad and soft keys under the screen then it would be COOL. ergonomics and looks toghether

Posted by Tigershark42
Looks amazing to me. Moreso because the ergonomics are already amazing for my use as I'm left handed GO SE!

the P5i is going to have a lot of competition. A rumored samsung I900 is a iPhone size phone with a big screen, hsdpa 7.2, Fm radio, Gps and wm 6.1 and the picture looks that its made to be finger friendly on gsm arena. I would like to see the p5i at least match it, in hardware, good UI and a os powerful enough open nearly every webpage or PDF thrown at it without slowing down.

what do u think it implies

Maybe it is what they are branding their new line of UIQ phones. So we will have Walkman, Cybershot, and now Xperia phones.

SE is going to have a great year this year.

i think SE really need this, or nokia will continue to dominate the smartphone market.

Posted by Tigershark42
This could be an excellent sign of things to come. Seeing as we are discussing the area of patents and trademarks, it may be worth mentioning that not so long ago I read on mobile-review.com that SE filed a patent for the design of a phone which is not only waterproof, but it is also capable of taking photos underwater aswell . There were numerous patents last year for a few interesting designs, of course, so lets not be forgetting about that dual slide form factor just yet PK can't tell us that much, and everyone working with the company would want to keep that a secret until the monolith of a handset is released! Looks like SE really are extending their portfolio now, after they started to try new things last year and their presence within the industry was definitely felt and profit margins increased slightly. Keep it coming SE! I personally think that even IF the P5 is not announced at 3GSM, something pretty damn cool should surface there. Bear in mind that there is always a huge lag between a patent going through and then it being heard of on the internet, so it may just be possible that we will see some amazing new ideas coming along in the next bunch of handsets!

Posted by Mizzle
Afaik it will come with built-in IM

Posted by Tigershark42
hehehehe it sounds like its gonna be truly awesome. Fingers crossed for Opera 9 pre-installed on all forthcoming UIQ handsets

What's Xperia?

@TigerShark:

Dude dont raise your hopes yet let SE developer Team make their Homework on their numerous upcoming UIQ products and The Moto-SE UIQ Team to further poilish UIQ

for sure there will be a big competition for SE from Nokia and Samsung but this will be their time to shine same goes at Motorola's UIQ flagships

Didn't Mr Jobs say the iPhone dominates that market in his keynote 2 days ago?

Posted by bavlondon2
Thats rubbish how can it dominate the market?

Anyway I dont care what they call the P5 as long as they announce it sooon.

Also someone needs to update the first post with that newest pic PK said its quite accurate.

xperia is rumored to be the new name of p5i ???/

Posted by PeterKay
nice name!

Posted by sealover94
Yeah i think a "name" is better than a "code" (p5)..

@icaka make a cange of your 1st post

OMG. You misspelled Komiyama. Anything you can do right on your shops?

Posted by PeterKay
LOL

If there is something now named Xperia, when is it going to be officiall. And is there only one phone, or is it many??

Would be great if somone could tell where the information came from

Posted by badassmam
If the P series is SE's PDA range, how would you differentiate from the 'X' series? Is Xperia hardware or software based? I can't tell from the description, any ideas or inside info?

Posted by ares
seem to me this xperia thing is SE answer to nseries...so it will be more than one device

This is exciting.

My thoughts mirror others...the P-Series will remain business-oriented devices while this new Xperia range will cater to all-in-one devices of which "Bella" is the first.

I did have my eyes set on N95 8GB NAM...but I can hold out a few more months if this thing promises to be all that it seems. Hopefully with the new OMAP platform/processor/whatever, it will rock quadband EDGE and triband HSUPA. I can't see why it wouldn't at this stage. That in and of itself would be enough to rival the Nseries, which has yet to include a triband 3G device.

I can't wait for February. Too bad I can't actually go to Barcelona.

Remember that Xpedia remains a rumour itself, so it may or may not end up a series, if it exists at all. I really hope it does because the market of users wanting a powerful multimedia do-it-all solution is huge and seems to keep growing, whereas the business sector is more exclusive and consistent. I think this would all make more sense and would be a great thing to look forward to...the X5 We will see.

Posted by Mizzle
X5... Hmm.. There's nothing wrong with this thread's title.

Posted by Tigershark42
Too early to know yet! Still, it would be great if it was.

Posted by Mizzle
Me don't think so

Posted by ares
mmm...Mizzle...gotta talk to you...i smell fresh news

Posted by bavlondon2
So new? Tell me what do you know? lol

good chop seal,

im happy to see everyone so optimistic and exccited so ill join in, HOORAY, they know what we want and have at least decided that if they do make it they have a name for it.

if it comes out this year i cant wait for A) the og iPhone users to ask me what my phone is and why its better (no specs just dreams and hopes) and B) the new N series + new iPhone2 users to bow in the design and hard/software supremecy that is SEALOVER, i mean SonyEricsson!

Posted by bavlondon2
What do you mean if it comes out this year? SE cant afford to let it tip into 2009.

Posted by xironghostx
imo, SE should habe three xperia phones at start. Or atleast two. One TS iphonekiller and one candybar. And maybe one highly specced clamshell.
