No where near.

I think we're going to see a P1 style qwerty keypad slide down (rather than to the side)...

Posted by PeterKay
Possibly.

And it will be not a slider!

Don't mess up things right now. :|

@ares, dear
No no no. I've also tried P1.
For me it's like no discussion.
I mean, I don't know how they'll resolve the keyboard in P5, but P1 keyb. is a bit like a joke for a business use. Sorry, it's my opinion, for smsing or simple mailing it's gr8, but for writing like 20 pages it's pain.
P990 has separate tactile feedback for each key. You feel a different key under your finger. And the backlight...
I didn't ever see any computer keyb. like P1. Guess why?
If they'll release amazing P5 with this keyb. I will consider switching from Pseries to a real business device. TyTn II? I don't like that idea, but...

Posted by doministry
Hey, i think it's possible that it'll have sliding keyb but NOT be a slider like N95.

pull out like a drawer?

Why does eveyone feel the need to keep photoshopping that pic? PK has already said its close to the real thing and the real thing will be revealed on the 15th which is only 9 days so lets all calm down. I just hope the phone itself doesnt let SE down in the fashion the P990 did.

I hope SE put VGA 30fps video in it also.

Posted by n20nine
woah...this is just getting interesting...i have been refreshing this page since morning...and now its way past 12 am.....just cant resist the temptation...qwerty's gonna be cool....just hope the camera is as good as the n95...never seen the k850i samples...but seen the n95 8gb...its really nice..

Posted by anonymuser
So many possibilities for the keyboard...

I've got an image in my mind of something springloaded that kind of pulls down and then folds over the lower part of the screen. Can't really explain the engineering, but it makes some sort of sense to me...

Posted by doministry
@JINNING
Yeah, possibly.

Posted by bavlondon2
Being a p raneg device I doubt it will be as good as a cybershot branded one but still should be more than acceptable. Hopefully as good as the Veiwty and G600. Also regarding video with such a big screen they simply have to put VGA video in.

I wonder how the GPS system will square up against the N95s.

Posted by Angello
ever thought of a full touch screen device and a virtual finger keyboard?

Much better and faster and smoother.
Quality graphics...

Posted by ares
doministry, if you want to write tones of text on such a small device, and feel the P1 type keyboard is not good for you, buy a external bt keyboard...i donīt think any PDA type keyboard is good for entering really LONG texts over hours of work...

and i have to say, what i want is a SMALL and SLIM powerfull smartphone, and the P1 type of keyboard alows that, more than a full qwerty...so i really hope they use it on the P5...and this is my opinion

How it possible? explain that...

Try not to compare the N95 with the P5i as the P5i kicks the N95's a$$ big time.

Well done

Interesting. About bloody time though

Ok, my P910i is dying on me already... I'm waiting and waiting and waiting for the W960i (which, given all the friggin delays might come out later than the P5i... )

If the P5i announcement becomes official on the 15th, I'm getting a K810i/K850i to tie me over til the P5i.

Posted by bavlondon2
Silly question perhaps but on the original photoshop it had the walkman 3 interface. Is that the media interface for the P5 or is it the normal UIQ type one?

I wonder how long you tried it... 10 minutes? 1 day? There's no question that it's an innovative design and as such it takes some time to adjust to it - it took me at least 2-3 days to get fluent with my M600i - but once you do, it really is superb. The best trade-off between pocketability and a full-size keyboard, in my opinion.

The Tytn II's board is good, and I'm quite happy using it, but it's still undeniably bigger and bulkier than SE's solution.

I mean, I don't know how they'll resolve the keyboard in P5, but P1 keyb. is a bit like a joke for a business use.

Worked just fine for me, for a year.

Sorry, it's my opinion, for smsing or simple mailing it's gr8, but for writing like 20 pages it's pain.

For writing 20 pages most mobile keyboards aren't ideal, the Tytn's included, but the SE's is up there with most of them. I actually find it more ergonomic than most, since there's no reaching and every key is immediately accessable in a smaller space.

P990 has separate tactile feedback for each key. You feel a different key under your finger.

Just as you do with the P1/M600. You feel the individual key ridges, left and right, which is effectively the same thing - you just have to stop seeing them as the same button. Which, with a little practice, you do.

I didn't ever see any computer keyb. like P1. Guess why?

I didn't ever see any computer keyboard like the P990's, or the Tytn's, or the E90's, or any other mobile keyboard you can mention - all the ones attached to computers are a lot bigger, and have completely different keys. Guess why?

Face it, any mobile keyboard is a compromise, the trick is just to get the compromise right.

If they'll release amazing P5 with this keyb. I will consider switching from Pseries to a real business device. TyTn II? I don't like that idea, but...

I use the Tytn II now, it's a fantastic device, but the keyboard isn't really any better, or faster, or more comfortable, than the M600i's I was using before. Seriously.

I dunno why SE had not released the w960i it was announced long back,
but while w980i will be released on Q1 2008, whats the point of w960i.

I loved my P1 i only sold it as I needed cash and id happily get another p series phone.

yeah, but N95's successor will kick P5 butt.

@ares
Of course, your opinion, my opinion.
Actually 99 percent of all of my texts last year WERE written on P990 so YES, it is a comfortable device for business usage. Even 50 pages is fine. And I write faster than on a PC. That's why P1 is no compare.
And I personally want my device to REPLACE PC in this regard. Why should I waste 500 or 1000 Euro for a device which can't handle serious work? For this money, or a bit more, I can get a PC and simple phone to call. I hate things which are half-way products.
And it's my personal, maybe even very specific view
@Peter Kay
Thank you, N95 is nonsense to compare.

Posted by doministry
@Boinng, Ares
Guys thank you for a positive keybard attitude!!!
But I hate it.....

@doministry

how long were you working with the p1i keyboard?

i've used them all tytn, e61, p990, m600, BB etc..etc... and i'm able to churn out an average of 50 wpm on any device over time...

the p1i keyboard is great cause it saves space...having the p5i work only in landscape would be a terrible idea imo unless it's gonna run an iphone like virtual keyboard...

Posted by artesea
For me it has to be a full QWERTY, I used the M600 until the P990 was released and I never managed to work out how to use it quickly.
It's a personal opinion, but one that is correct for me and doministry.

The pic makes it look bulky, but it isn't all that bulky for a phone with GPS integrated.

Would give that pic a 8.5/10

cant wait to see the real thing....thats my next target-hopefuly

We are getting closer to the real deal

Posted by makbil
Regarding the keyboard, I'm inclined to agree with @artesea and @doministry. I'm more interested in how one handed use is. That is the big advantage of the flip which all indications are is missing on the P5.
I have a feeling I may be stuck with my P990 for quite some time

Posted by hyellow
Me too. It'll be a bummer if it had the same sort of keyboard like the p1i. It maybe productive, but it's not sexy.
