It was indeed posted by me, but at my blog. I have no idea who is the creator of it (it was sent to me anonymously), but it looks a lot like the P5 - at least the first prototype.

over 1700 posts and over 114 pages of hype and expectations, all these will lead to nothing else than disappoiment. No conformed info yet of even its specification and hardware. And after all these dicussion, There by raising the expectation of users, if one comes to get to see if p5 or whtever has bugs or even a minor flaws which will lead to a diappoinment among the user (like before) due to its overwhelmed expecation .The best way for phone to be made popular is, after release and user reviews. No conclusion can be made based on specification

At this point I can't imagine SE being able to produce a smartphone remotely approaching the expectations. Especially if the rumors about SE coming up with a WM device is true, they must be more confused than I thought.
I still believe that SE has a decent platform on their hands with the P990/P1 but they do not have the capability (nor the desire) to improve on this.

I totally agree with you on this. The P1i is a great designed device. Several misses that they have make its achilles heel.
1. cpu (way too old & dated, we should be looking for multicore multipurpose cpu's from Qualcomm - after court injunction issues with Broadcomm is resolved- Texas Instruments, etc)
2. Symbian 9.4 has been around for a few mths now and we should have this latest edition (so a few apps will need to be updated but minor to major developer houses).
3. VGA/QVGA recording @ 30fps (common SE you STARTED Symbian on a smartphone, paving the way. Its time to act like a leader now)!
4. Bring back the 5-way scrollwheel.
etc etc.

Now as for that photo ... a VERY SIMILAR one was posted in this very thread by Sealover some pages back.

AHA!
Check on this page ...
http://www.esato.com/board/viewtopic.php?topic=158431&start=1590#

Look at the date as well!

However the EXACT photo in question was posted by Mizzle.
http://www.esato.com/board/viewtopic.php?topic=158431&start=1560#

SO I guess Sealovers major slick attempt was this one here ... on page 102.

^ This design is growing on me as the SIZE seems PERFECT. Looks like the sheer SeySheekness of the Armani phone but with POWER!

at the moment n82 is eating SE... common SE please don't disappoint us,..

My main gripe is that it is a slider, I hate sliders! Wished that they continued with the P910 design,ie, with the same size screen and a flip.

Posted by bodeh6
dandyqb you are correct.

nokia is now adapting the old strategy of SE, an all rounder in 1 device...

So does SE: it diversifies products and produces too much clones with just design as a distinction

Oh no NOT THIS again!

How many ppl just got rid of the flip on the P900/910/990 ?? Hmm. SE realized this and probably poled this as well and realized it was only going to not be used, since its touchscreen and all right?!

Posted by chombos1
i agree.
too many ppl just remove the flip at the shop before starting to use the phone.

flip is useful in P9xx series because of their UI design.

but if the UI in the P5 is an improved one; then not having a flip is not a problem..... in fact it's very good.

@razec

I guess Nokia and Sony Ericsson secretly traded marketing strategy

SE used to do 1 all-rounder, now they're diversifying it. Nokia use to throw up a whole bunch of phones, now they're doing 1 all-rounder.

Posted by nneo
did you know that there is some kind of collaboration between nokia and Ericsson in the university of Helsinki for technology (tkk) read under :
Mobile Communications and Electrical Engineering

btw: off-topic

O h no Wish we could have avoided this...
I've used my P900 with a flip and still need the flip on my P990. I guess it has to do with individual usage patterns, I just find it so much more convenient to have the flip on.
I did take the flip off for a week or so and it was just not convenient for me. I come from a Palm background so it should have been easier for me but with a phone the flip is simply a necessity.

Posted by Dups!
@makbil- that's exactly how I feel! Still using my p910i with flip on and loving it. Also tried flipless and hated it.

Posted by Mr[NiK]
im a flippin flip user too (p800, p900 and my p990 too)

Posted by anonymuser
The P800, P900, and P910 all needed the flip, no question - without it, full screen UIQ2 was in no way optimised for finger use, and just couldn't be used one-handed very easily, if at all.

In the P990, SE deliberately arranged its version of UIQ3 so that it was the same - difficult to use one-handed without the flip, with the soft buttons positioned at the top of the screen for example, and only the qwerty keyboard available below the screen. But there was no need for this. The version of UIQ3 that was released on the M600i, before the P990 even came out, was designed for one-handed use without the flip. They did this simply by moving the soft buttons to the bottom of the screen, within easy thumb reach, and adding a dual-use keypad that had standard phone keys as well as qwerty. The same, ultimately successful design which was used a year later on the P990's successor, the P1.

With this design, there is simply no need for the cut down "flip closed" mode found in the P990. Rather than a limited selection of cut-down apps especially made for the P990, all the full screen standard UIQ3 apps can be used one-handed on both the M600i and P1. If they don't build and improve on that in the P5, rather than revisiting the pointless flip designs of the past, then UIQ will be going backwards rather than forwards.

flip is a MUST for my p910i! just cant type as fast using anything else! and it is so much convenient, to switch on bluetooth, to send n recieve sms with Awesome T9, to make calls, one hand operation its the best! i really don't know if i can get used to a non-t9 phone if the p5i is going to be that way...

All UIQ3 phones have predictive text (t9) in the same way your P910 has, the only difference is that you use a different keyboard to enter the initial string of the word from which the phone will then provide you with suggestions. So, i am guessing the P5i will be exactly the same if it has a keyboard, but we don't know that yet, do we?

Posted by Jejoma
I agree with Boinng. I've had my P1 for 4 months now and don't miss the flip. In fact, I find it far easier to use than my previous P990 with the flip.

The simple act of moving the soft keys to the bottom of the screen has transformed UIQ3. It took me a while to get used to the rocker keys for text input but now I find them easier than those of the P990 (I never tried the P910 - the fold down keyboard and tiny keys just did not appeal).

^ good find. This solidify's the rumors of the PS3 to stream content to the Mobile phone (that was highlighted in that 1 off W880i from the head of PS3 marketing). Remote Play is already there for the PSP, so I'm sure we'll see the PS3 stream to future or current high end SE phones. These two MUST work more together.

Look at the icons and tell me thats not close to the PS3's XrossBar.?!

Hmm.

Prom1......................it will happen mark my words .

"Seems that Sony's not only trying to compete with Xbox Live and Nintendo's similar services, but also with Apple's iTunes. The news of the day is that the PS3 will be able to hook up to your cellphone and you surely know that this is just another reason for those PSP Phone rumors to resurface. We're already loving the Remote Play functionality featured on the PlayStation Portable and PlayStation 3 and we guess that it can be expanded in order to allow the next-gen gaming device to connect to many other gadgets.

Linking a PS3 to a mobile phone means hardcore media streaming and maybe a chance to take screenshots and capture videos from the games you play, plus some neat content management of your saves and files. We'll see this new feature being launched by April 2008, probably with the aid of a brand new firmware. I'm curios to see if the connectivity option is only available for Sony's phones, or we'll be able to hook up iPhones to our beloved consoles.

Can you read into the future and really figure out what such a feature means? Here's a couple of high-tech lucky guesses (even reaching sci-fi levels at times):

* We'll play games using our Sony Ericsson phones as joysticks, maybe even taking advantage of their vibration function and accelerometer

* In case you're hooking up a phone with a pretty big storage space to the console, you'll be able to transfer your saves or even copy demos on the next-gen device

* Maybe the streaming process will be able to work in reverse, allowing us to check out YouTube content on the PS3

* Guess what? Connecting a phone that has a QWERTY keypad to your PS3 means that you'll be able to type messages faster and sometimes even pretend that you're playing a PC game

Speculations aside, there's still a long road ahead of us and some serious waiting time before the novelty kicks in, so let's enjoy the Remote Play for now and hope for the best."

Oh of this I have now doubt. Especially with rumored PS3 Firmware update v2.1 coming out tomorrow I'll confirm here shortly as I own a PS3 80GB.

This new update will feature DIVX (some limitations I'm not sure of what is limited) but its a BIG boon. Since Xbox 360 already got DIVX just 3wks ago.

Good times ahead, good times.

I found this very interesting on the sony ces website,

the phone on the outside depicts a normal mobile, but that little top part with the blue'ish theme, could that be a P5i? because we see sealover depict his p5 photoshops very much in that blue shade.. could it really be the thing we've been waiting for??

Posted by nneo
more like k850i style not p5i IMO
plus it is unlikely that S.E will show anything that might lead to the exposure of their first touch based UI phone as they are /were very strict with posting photos

Their first touch based UI phone? Why would they have put the P800 in the picture, it's five years old!

(Seriously, that really does demonstrate the power of the Iphone hype, that we're now forgetting SE have been making "touch based" smartphones since 2002, and even before that in the shape of the R380..)

Posted by bodeh6
Touch based probably means using fingers, not stylus, I believe what nneo is trying to say.

SE/E did a lot of first things. One of the first Smartphones, touch screens, etc.

exactly touch UI = finger based operation
i think i know SE and ericsson well enough to know they have touch screen mobile phones
and iphone is not on my menu i dont like the design i like the idea but not the design
