Hi people. I have the choice of getting either the T100 or Nokia 7210. Which do you think is better and which should I buy and why? Thanks in advance.

I would perfer samsung
brighter screen, better menu and better looking
I hate 7210 kinda plastic feel....

T100 is only dual-band, has no GPRS, no MMS, no radio, no Java... In brief, it's naked. Too expensive for what you get, in my mind. It's outdated.
It's main advantage is a 65336 color screen [CORRECTION: It's 4096 colors]... but what do you wanna do with this when the phone doesn't get any MMS, Java??? Well, you only get an expensive color user interface.

7210 has kinda plastic feel, but it looks great and feature wise beats T100 by far. Also you can customize it at will. I've got already 9 games and applications, a load of pics and ringtones.
It's triband, GPRS, MMS, has got a radio, Java...
The screen is 4096 colors, and it's quite enough, at least for me

Though, the choice is yours... And it depends what you use your phone for

And the battery capacity on the samsung sucks!!!!!!!
Drop samsung and nokia and buy yourself a panasonic gd87

Posted by 2tangy
I don't own either of those phones nor have i used them but i would have to agree with super g regarding the astonishing lack of features on the T100.

Posted by haki
Incidentally, the T100's screen has only 4096 but what makes it excellent is the fact that it is TFT. Its sounds and its quality are way ahead of the Nokia but it lacks features. The GD87 seems to be an ideal combination!

Posted by Raven
@super g, the t100 supports 4096 colours, it's the s100 that has 65k colours in addition to gprs, java and better battery capacity. Now, if the choice was between a s100 and a 7210, i would definatly choose the s100. But between t100 and 7210, the 7210 is the best choice by far imo.

Raven: yes you're absolutely right It has 4k colors. My mistake.

The decision is even easier then

The 7210 is a better buy for sure. The T100 has almost no features and lousy standbytimes. But it does have a much better screen. It is a TFT screen on the T100 and an STN screen on the Nokia.

But if you want a better phone that is almost like the T100 go for the Panasonic GD87... It is also a much better than Nokia 7210.

As others have said - go for the Nokia. My flatmate bought the Samsung T100 as soon as it was released here... soon realising that it has only basic features and nil connectivity options, except for the ability to customise the ringtones and wallpaper using the supplied cable (which is NOT a data cable!).

2 cents.

Hi people, thanks for all of your replies. I have decided to go with the Nokia 7210 after all of your opinions, and you are right, having done some research it seems I will get a lot more for my money with the Nokia. I have a few questions concerning it, I would be greateful if you could please answer...

1. Can I use GSM WAP to download Java applications/games rather than GPRS?

2. Where can I get these applications/games from for free?

3. What is the battery life like on the phone?

4. Are there any known problems with it?

Thanks in advance.

1. Yes, you can WAP as you feel to get Java applets, using GPRS, or (HS)CSD.

2. The phone already have so called "Applications Services" and "Games Services" in the applications and games menus respectively. You will find free applications and games from these: go to "software market" or "Club Nokia". In software market, it will first propose you softwares for 7210 only on the wap page. But if you browse down in the wap page, you will see "Back". Click on it, and you will see a bunch of Nokia phones listed. You can go to any of them to get your applets, they will work (it's Java), except for 7650's ones (the screen is bigger on 7650). E.g. 3510i applets work.

3. Using GPRS, IrDA and rather frequent voice calls, I can use my phone some 4-5 days without recharge. Quite good!

4. I don't have any problem with it except the one of max volume when I listen to the ringing tones in the gallery. Otherwise, it works very well. There is also a small "shhhhh" noise in the speaker, but I don't hear it anymore.

you will be get 7210 because T100 does not have GPRS and in these days, buy a phone without GPRS it will be not useless but i think if you like 7210

Posted by bart
the 7210 is better because it has got more function like GPRS and MMS!
but the T68 is still better. i like those samsung phones too, the V100 is great but i need bluetooth and MMS. and i don't need a phone that sucks like nokia!

Posted by virtualtears
I have never had any big problems with Nokia phones, besides, I do a lot of texting and se's suck for that.

Posted by jack078
yes, agree.

i was wrong cuz i messed up samsung t100 with s100. i thought you were talking about the 65k color screen s100.

but in my opinion... buying either 7210 or t100 would not be a good idea. many other better choices out there now, mate!!

I just returned from Comdex, tried the new Samsungs SGH-V205 with turnable digicam, 65000 TFT colors, gprs, triband and so on,...also the SGH-S105,..very nice phones,...still believe that Samsung-phones do have a different "feel" to them,..their built-quality seems better than most others,

I also tried Panasonic GD87, SPV and all the new Nokia-range.

The 7210 is ok,..got good features,..although the screen-contrast lacks a lot, compared to T100.
According to Nokia at Comdex,..the screens on the new models should be optimized, compared to e.g. 7650,...this I believe is true,..the 3650 has got a better screen,..actually this phone works great,..it might look strange,..but it gets the job done
Actually the only "real" compeditor to T68i,..as the 3650 got everything (all in one) finally !!!
Bluetooth headset profile, triband, mms, poly, mmc-cards...and so on.
And it doesnt even feel big nor heavy.

Regards

Jan

I have ordered the Nokia 7210. Due to payment complications with my parents etc (the new phone is an xmas present) I could only choose between the T100 and the 7210. I went down to Carphone Warehouse and tried out both of the phones before choosing. The Samsung, while it looks nice, seems a bit flimsy (well the flip does) and the menu system isn't all that good. Texting is also a bit rubbish on it also. I really liked the 7210, the spacing of the keys suits my rather large hands/fingers well and the menu system is very good (similar to that of my old 7110, and that isnt a bad thing). I've ordered the 7210, but it wont arrive until the second week of January. I am wondering whether this has anything to do with the recall from Tmobile and o2 that I have heard about (the phone I ordered is on o2 pay as you go so I can put my existing sim card in it). Hopefully if this is the reason its been delayed, it wont be any longer than that. Thanks for all of your comments/advice.

@jh67

I agree about the 3650- i think its an absolute winner! I wanna get my hands on one ASAP, but I dont know how to get hold of one.

Is the screen etc... far better than the 7650? Have they really improved the 7650 for the 3650 model?

How much do you think would be a reasonable US price for one in the next few months?
