nice! But if you want, i can give you some advices for your CG version first you should make her neck a little slimmer and make it appear shorter since she seems bowing her head, for the hair you can give it more curls and bends at the rear, that makes it cuter and younger looking, give her legs more curves as a female character always needs it

^^ but you don't need to redraw you character, you can instead make her CG version and put all the necessary enhancements just like what i did:

take a look at this:

I made this just as reference for my CG art, i can't put every details since the sketch was made on a letter size bond paper, but as you can see there's so much difference between the rough sketch and the CG version

thanks for the suggestion now that you mentioned it the neck really is too long , the CG version will definitely look different than this, actually my previous colored work look much different from it's original sketch. Guess it's time to edit

This is Yusa from Angel Beats! - my fav. character alongside Kanade and Yuri

Posted by reeflotz
nice, when I watched Hidan no Aria Riko reminded me of Yusa due to their similarities in hair style and color, but both have almost completely opposite personality

Posted by reeflotz
CG version, changed a lot of details

Sexy...

well here the CG version of Yusa...

Link Here

All made in Photoshop CS4, it has more than 130 layers so using Inkscape will really slow me down, there were limitations of course but the rendering is fast thanks to the HW acceleration. took me 4 days to complete due to limited free time. the only thing that's not made in vector was the SSS insignia on the left of her uniform

Posted by reeflotz
Nice, it almost looks like an official art

130 layers? that's a lot, mine's usually just around 30-50 layers from lineart to colors and shadows, then the finishing touches are just done through photoshop filters.

Thanks kabayan! actually Angel Beats had the character designs that really took my time working at since NaGa put so much detals in his character designs, in Angel Beats Anime they used gradients for the shading of the 2D characters - something we don't see on most if not all anime shows. angel beats had even more details than Clannad as far as designing is concerned, although at first glance it appears less

I deleted some of my work, I plan on replacing it with a better one, I wasn't satisfied with how my first colored works with backgrounds turned out .

Anyway I'll try to take more time doing my drawings. Hopefully I'll produce better results, here's a new colored work, I thought I'd be busy but surprisingly found time to work on this one

^^

Awesome, what mecha is that? the frame is very much like a gundam except the head!

Posted by reeflotz
Thanks kabayan glad you appreciate it , I was supposed to create a custom arm slave based on the ARX-7 Arbalest from the anime Full Metal Panic. I was thinking of combining gundam and arm slave design and create a mech with a lot of firepower, I still haven't done the weapons yet, and still thinking where I could place more weapons inside the frame . That thing took me 1 week of nonstop 3d modeling but it was fun.

Just saw your Sony Xperia concept on the other thread it looks great Thinking of making one too if I have time

Posted by razec
looking at your work you looked nothing like a newcomer to 3D modelling. I'm still new to it even though i was introduced 3 years ago (stopped studying maya, but now i'm back ) expecting your final version

thanks to you, i feel like making my own 3D gundam model

Posted by reeflotz
Well you can blame it on Illsteir who also made me want to create my own 3D Gundam His work was the one that inspired me to try and make one, pinoy rin kagaya natin. You can still download his works from the google 3D warehouse. I was surprised by the amount of detail in the arms and joints he put on his gundams and arm slaves all done with google sketchup

I think this will be the final version for this mech, the whole landscape photos are on my deviantart:

Some other poses (holding the beam Saber) will be done when I have time again

Posted by razec
I'm loving your mech. and the gattling-gun rifle is based from Gundam Unicorn! I would love to see this in TransAm or NT-D with all those flashing red glows

Posted by reeflotz
Completed version with wing attachment Had to re-position and remodel the rear radiator fins so that the wing attachment can be placed properly. Also slightly remodeled side knee plates, gatling gun and added plates on the elbows. I did say last time I think that was final but i guess this is the real final version . I still haven't done the beam saber poses, maybe next time.

Final color style complete with textures

Awesome! your work may not recieve much comments from this thread buton deviantart, I'm pretty sure you would

looks like your true skill lies on 3D modeling mate!

Thanks, just joined the group mecha designers on deviantart and posted it there, hopefully someone would comment or fave

This thread has been quiet for quite a while now. Haven't done any traditional sketches lately, currently working on something using 3DS Max.

Posted by razec
You really do have some neat skills kabayan!, I honestly am not yet ready to tackle the world of car design in 3DsMax, I'm currently working on something robotic, your mecha design inspired me afterall

very nice!

I really like the way it is rendered! what renderer did you use for 3DS Max? Those glowing lights on the head and frame look really cool and the background is great!
[ This Message was edited by: reeflotz on 2012-04-09 06:19 ]

Posted by razec
I used the default rendering engine set by the program itself, I only experimented with the lighting and shadow using advanced raytracing and raytraced reflections, for the glowing eyes and the AGE system I applied self illumination. I didn't have time to produce a better background image for the render since I was excited enough to post it today I reused the hexagons from my previous windows tablet concept project. glad that you liked it kabayan

next thing in my mind would be adding some texture maps on the gundam parts just like the MG model kits.
AGE-2 gundam was actually more difficult to do than AGE-1 (which was my initial planned project) but thank god I made it

As you notice my first vector and 3D project all came from the anime gundam age which is quite enjoyable to watch nowadays

Posted by reeflotz
I liked the background for its simplicity, even though you reused it from the windows concept tablet, it actually looks better with the gundam and together with a plain black background makes it look like the gundam is in a combat simulation/training mode

looking forward to the textured version

Posted by razec
Now for the next stage - here's AGE-2 Double Bullet

And now the 2nd Gen AGE Gundams are together

@Reeflotz: salamat bro I'm currently working on rigging the bones to make it move and pose naturally

Posted by reeflotz
Nice will there be a fight scene next for those gundams? that will be really cool!

Finally after two weeks, finished with my project car in 3ds Max

You should submit that car to toyota, I liked its classic looks, I've also seen some Mitsubishi Lancer/ Honda Civic references. and yes I want that for the next Need for Speed game

Posted by tranced
Toyota already got that model, don't they?

Well done!

Just watched Gundam AGE Episode 27 - which leads me into making this:

@tranced

thanks, yes Toyota made this model, I've just searched for blueprints (top, front, left, back view of the car) for reference so that I could make it in 3D and then customize it to the car that i play in Initial D Arcade version 3.

this was my reference for the customizations done:

@razec that's nice, I always liked white color, pure and simple

Hunter and Accel, I no longer remember those names, Nicely done car rendition by the way kabayan!

Posted by reeflotz
This thread started from 2D hand drawn, then became 2D CG works, then currently now 3DCG works

Something I've been working on

currently having trouble with the rig, the clothes just seem to deform unnaturally when the 3d model is moved. Can't seem to find a good tutorial on the net on rigging the clothes.

Posted by razec
fantastic job with the details! it would take a very powerful machine to render every tiny strands of her hair, did you already use Mental Ray on your rendering?

currently working on a new AGE-3 normal these days, will be using mental ray but I my Athlon II X2 is already choking

Posted by reeflotz
thanks yes I used mental ray, then turned off indirect illumination because it kills the processor taking too long to render.

I saved up for a K43SV 9 months ago, got the one with i5, its what I've used on all 3d works and was surprised by its price in stores, it was a really good deal.

Our old P4 is still alive even when we accidentally unplugged the processor from the board. It was stuck on the heatsink because of thermal paste, right now it has no thermal paste but still works

^^ The i5 Asus notebook is a wise decision, for 3D tasks that CPU is powerful enough I'm actually saving for a new graphics card, I'm using V-Ray and a CUDA based rendering tool to offload the rendering tasks from my CPU, I have my eyes on the HD7750 card actually, it's powerful yet efficient. I need my computer to run as efficient as it can so new components with lower power consumption are always welcome

Posted by reeflotz
GPU rendering is really the way to go, the HD7750 is indeed an efficient card most programs being released nowadays seems to be trying to utilize also GPU for processing.

Another reason why I bought the asus notebook was because of CUDA support, it helped a lot in video encoding and I'm now trying to figure out what else I can do with it XD, currently I don't know how to use vray yet so I'm stuck with mental ray for now.

new test render replaced the textures with a better one

Posted by razec
Looks familiar She reminds me of someone excellent job btw!

Posted by reeflotz
who does she remind you of? may I ask?

now that I look at it, One particular game character does come to mind. But when I made this I was supposed to create her from combining three badass female characters from video games I've played

Just finished the lineart for the Vocaloid princess Hatsune Miku will be planning to shade them in PS later

I'm still new to this software, but I mastered using a wacom tablet within a week, so I started making CG drawing using various softwares, sketchbook, SAI, opencanvas and PS, but I found SAI as the best one for ease of use and precision when using pen pressure

Posted by reeflotz
I didn't notice you posted it here, but already saw it on deviantart about a month ago. EasyPaintToolSAI is one of the best programs for 2d sketching and coloring mate It's nice you have a wacom tablet for it, but I've also seen some nicely done works using mouse only+SAI. There is a program that I'm curious to try though, I've seen some excellent works done with it, IllustStudio. I think it is openCanvas, SAI and Photoshop all in one program.

Some other older works done, only posted now:

re-rigged and re-rendered with 3ds max and vray

Mazda RX-7 Initial D Keisuke

Currently fixing almost everything on the first car that I made on the previous page Toyota Altezza, I'm gonna try and give it a detailed interior as well as fix body, headlights, tailights and the rendering.
