W810i alarm failing to work

I'm not sure if this is a common problem:

When the SE W810i is turned on the alarm works fine, but when the phone is off the alarm sometimes sounds, sometimes doesn't.

On the times it hasn't sounded while the phone was off, and I've turned the phone on to see what the alarm is set to, it shows the alarm still set as I expected.

Any ideas what is wrong, and will a software update, which I've never done since getting the phone, make a difference?

this is maybe a bug. try a master reset. anyways, my phone's alarm works even if it's off.

what's your firmware?

I've moved my alarm tone from the memory card to the phone's memory to see if that makes a difference.

I have the origin firmware installed that came with the phone.

How do I find out which firmware that is? There is a key combination you can press to access it I think?

its easy, mate. its right there in your phone:

menu>settings>update service>software version

if you wanted to be a little bit "technical", try this:

>*<<*<*

note:
> and < refers to the D-pad direction, the * well, that's the asterisk key lol

the last procedure will give you the following: service info, service tests and text labels...
