A good read for those of you interested in the super-high-tech N95 8gb by Steve Litchfield at AllAboutSymbian.com.
http://www.allaboutsymbian.com/reviews/item/Nokia_N95_8GB.php
His conclusion:
"Is this the best smartphone ever made? Yes. You could even drop the 'smart' bit and call it the 'best phone ever made', since this will be sold in High Street shops and picked up, as the original was, by people from all walks of life, most of whom have never even heard the term 'smartphone'."

i wouldnt say its the "best"... its a nice upgrade of n95, but still the same disappointing cam and screen ( as i see ) but the design its better imo and the more powerful battery (a which would have been released with n95 too ) but one thing is sure, ppl will buy it as candy
Posted by Scoobyd
The main thing that put me off the N95 originally was the battery life. It seemed a good upgrade from my current W900 whereas most other phones lacked the video recording quality of my W900.
If it's true that the battery life now is up to 50% better than the original model then that makes it seriously worthy of consideration again. The battery itself apparently only gives you another 25% or so of life but then revisions to the firmware with better power management apparently bring that up to around 50%.

you got to give it up to nokia, they did a pretty darn good job.now,if only i could afford it...

One of the biggest reasons to get rid of N95 for me was the build quality. Review mentions that build quality is better, .. I surely would like to see/test that. When is this thing going to be available in Europe?

NOKIA YOU BEAUTY!!

good point above there : any news on the built quality? is it the same?

What a top class bit of kit!It now makes SE smartphones look even more inferior than they already are unfortunately(for SE)

why did nokia remove the lense cover
dumb move by nokia now its just a fashion phone and not a camera phone its like an N80 with 5mp cam, 8gb flash drive and sat nav
Posted by tk338
So you're saying the lens cover was the only difference between the N80 and N95?!?!? Its a recessed lens, dont worry.

I have one, along with the traditional N95, and I have to say the new 8 GB version is defo built better.
Slider mechanism is smoother, no rattles, and not loose at all. The buttons are nicer and the screen notibly larger and brighter.
I also picked up the new LG KU990 Viewty, and I have to say, it's very nice, really well built and wellfeatured.

My friend who works at Vodafone said they got them in the store yesterday... I can get one on an upgrade for £75... that's worthy of some serious consideration...
Posted by tuyulaneh
floatlite, can you compare the built quality and screen quality between the viewty and n95 8gb? Which impresses you more

i love vodafone they have just given me the 8gb on a £25 tariff 12month commitment for only £12 so cant argue with that. the geordie girl that sold me it also sounded rather hot. so total cost for me was only £312 all in. what you think

yeah i know but i am half expecting a mistake somewhere even though i repeatedly asked for the 8gb and she said it was just out today and thats why i had to say the £12.
Posted by Scoobyd
Sounds good. I can get one with Voda on an upgrade for £75. I've got the best upgrade option you can have, literally any phone in the shop is free for me other than the new 8gb which is £75.

thats such a nicer N95 I want it now ive seen it for real
btw it looks really good in black the display looks alot like my N80 same theme I like the changes they've done darm I really want it it's making me sick

just received mine this morning and i would definatly say it is a stunning fone. Thought it wasnt going to start up though as it kept saying start up failed see provider. So i removed my sim and started it in offline mode. Played for a min then put in my sim and away i went. Had a quick look at spiderman 3 and playback was faultless. Still cant believe i only had to way £12 to upgrade to this on a £25 12 month contract. Not trying to rub it in or anything. As there must have been a mistake somewhere but i aint complaining.
Posted by Wuz
Does anyone know when it might be available on Orange?
-I heard a nasty rumour (if true) that Vodaphone has it as an exclusive until after Xmas in the UK.
Posted by Miss UK
Frank you should do a review with pictures for us to gloat over
£12 is a brill price...
I can't believe Voda want £400 for it on £25 18mth contract
this handsets exclusive to them till after xmas so it will be then after the rest of the networks get it.
Voda seem to get alot of exclusives,
02 have got into this now aswell with that iPhone

Hey there... 1st post but have been lurking for ages!
I just rang Vodafone and upgraded to the N95 8GB for £74.99... staying with them for 18 months. I've kept my current tarriff, but the interesting thing is you can change the price plan at any time, don't have to keep it for 3 months as I've had before... so if I want to drop my bill I suppose I could go right down to the minimum tariff and still have a cheap phone!!!
Gets delivered tomorrow... looking forward to it.
Posted by frank2345babies
the thing is i dont even spend that much a month on calls and have only had 2 in the past 12 months even close to £100 most of them have been about £33 thats my £25 tariff and my data bundle. And sorry cant really do a review as dont have a home pc or a seperate digicam my phone is my only internet access and camera and good phone that it is it would take a while to do a review on this. Strictly speaking it wasnt only £12 i had to pay £3 for delivery and my 2months to go from my current contract has been added on so effectively a 14month commitment
Posted by Miss UK
Hmm my last 2 bills via 02 have been a total of £105 due to stupid text messages and Data..
I would love it if 02 done something nice for me like you 2
I can either upgrade next month or leave (decsions lmao)
any pics of the phone?
Posted by frank2345babies
few things i have noticed so far with the fone. Although it has a hard screen cover if you press on the housing just above the navigation controls(dpad etc) the screen at the bottom looks as if it has been pressed also the power saver standby always comes on in landscape mode even when using the phone in portrait. And when u continue using the phone from power saver screen it flashes on in landscape before settling into portrait mode. No biggies but just thought i would report my findings haha. Also vodafones default "colour" themes was hideous in my eyes and was the first thing i changed but not a big fan of the nseries themes on here either anywhere i can go for some new ones?

One question about the N95-8GB on Vodafone - does it have any external branding, e.g. a Vodafone logo where the Nokia logo should be under the screen?
Posted by frank2345babies
no branding on the front of the phone but on the back just above the camera surround it has vodafone and the logo written in white however this blends in with the rest of the writing on the phone and is barely noticeable. Internal branding is basically just start up and shutdown and a vodafone live logo acting as a web access point( after theme changed to a normal n series 1 provided on the phone)
Posted by Dextrr
WOW ... I hate each and everyone of you who's getting the N95 8gb for, basically, pocket change! lolz
Posted by mwarner
Thanks Frank - useful information. I generally have Voda branding, but this seems ok & i'll update the firmware to generic anyway. I was mainly worried about excessive external branding on the phone - like is present on the K800.

build quality is a LOT better then original, u'll notice it as soon as u hold one.
Posted by frank2345babies
as i said i only have internet access on my phone and couldn't work out how to upload to esato however i managed to upload some pics onto mosh and they were taken with a g600 and i am drunk but feel welcome to check them out my mosh name is deboom(also my pre registered ngage name) dont know if they have been verifyed yet. Feel free to check and yeah build quality is definatly better.

Went along to see my mate at Vodafone and upgraded to one today. Build quality seems good, comes pre loaded with Spiderman 3 which looked good too. I took some pics in the store with it and then with the K850. I have to say that I think the K850 has the better camera no question. Also feel that the SE phones generally have a warmer look to the screen than the N95.
Anyway it's still sat in its box so I'll get it charged up at somepoint tomorrow and have a proper play around with it no doubt!

Hey, nice to have found someone who owns both beauties (k850i and n95-8gig). Please can you say which phone has a faster 'turn around' between pics? I know both are 5mp and I expect a few seconds to save the image before the next one can be taken. Also, is each and every picture of good quality or you have to take a few to get a top pic ? Please try to be as impartial as possible. Thanks
Posted by floatlite
The K850 has definately a better camera than the N95 8gig. I have them both and the K850 is warmer, better colour repo, more saturation and depth. Not that the N95 8g is bad, just not as refined as the 850's.
I also picked up the new LG Viewty, and the camera on it is extreamly good, somewhere between the N95 8g and the K850.

Will it be asked for 2 much if I wanted to see the imei nr. of your n95 8gig? Where did you get it from? Sorry for not trusting you - but you say something which goes against most of the reviews. On the other hand why do you think there are so many users complaining about the k850i ?

because the k850 has a lot of quirky things that annoy the heck out of people..
the new softkey and dpad take time to get use to... the new camera button layout is more work imo... and the UI hasn't improved much at all and is overall a little slower then before... mind you everything works... but it could work better imo...
but when it comes to the actual camera performance the speed and overall performance is unrivaled...
but i think too most people that's not enough...which is why the k850 is getting weaker "scores"
Posted by mario2004
Well, actually is exactly 'the speed of the camera' and the quality which seems to be a problem with the k850i. Apparently it takes 3+ seconds between succesive pics and one has to take a few pictures to make sure at least one comes out 'just right'. SE themself are aware of the problem and hopefuly will fix it with the next firmware.
Posted by frank2345babies
k850 successor read this thread. I have the n95 8gb and got it insanely cheap. And i am loving it so far but can really make the most of it untill i get a home pc online so that i can fill it up with music and videos.

having used a n95-3 to test against the k850 my friend had last week the k850i was considerable faster to start and save...

just had brief play with K850 at a roadshow just now. The camera is not that faster than my N95 like claimed. It is faster in startup by 1-2 secs. This advantage will be narrow with N95-8gb as you can leave camera background.
But in-between shots N95 is considerably slower only if you set the "preview" mode to on. If you set the N95 photo "preview" mode to off, then N95 is just a tad slower.

When you have a bit of time to spare, write a bit of comparison and impressions between three

1-2 secs on 4 secs is 50% same with saving.. so that's double the speed...i didn't have any like with turning preview off didn't do much at all... may 1/2 at best..

K850 cam starts up in 2-3 secs and it is not like instantaneous. So it still misses the spur of the moment shots (as in the case of N95). So another sec or two, imo dont make that much difference. In between shots time of K850 is still slow and not much better than N95.
Anyway, I think nobody buys the N95/N95-8Gb just for the cam. Unlike the K850 which only have cam to shout for, the N95-8Gb decisively beat the K850 hands down in all other areas. I dont want to turn this into a fan war. K850 is a great phone but at the price it is selling, it is just a very bad buy compared to N95 and the N95-8G. My only objection to K850 is just the price.
Posted by Scoobyd
I agree mib that's why I went with the N95 8gb over the K850. I felt that the K850 camera was of a better quality but that was all. When it came to actually using it day to day as a phone I preferred the N95 8gb. Really didn't like the keys, d pad and touch screen combo on the K850 and for overall features the N95 offers quite a bit more. Also battery life seems very good on it so far too.

When will we all see pictiures of this you lot?
