Nope, sorry. No word on that yet.

So no crappy rehoused k850 is going to see the day. (maybe a thing like K800->K770, BUT NOT LIKE K800->K810)

And it is probably going to be UIQ because of this: (an ad i found in sweden's largest newspaper for engineers)

Three times optical zoom is rumored but not confirmed (would be stupid to not include it) And wlan is also a thing a phone that is going to be one of sonyericsson's flagship phones next year must have..

Edit: If somone want to read the whole ad: http://rapidshare.com/files/71320887/DSC00331.JPG.html

I misunderstood something.

@Wozik - old pictures mate.

Any more information on the Dec 12 announcement or if there will be one?

It’s easy to conclude they are preparing to grow rapidly and that during next year, we could expect to see new devices and UIQ 3.2 SDK released. Plus, there’s a UIQ 4.0 in the pipeline…

While they will always be working on the new version of the platform and the SDK, new devices will keep running the “old” code in the time when new SDK is released. Or to put it in other words - UIQ SDK 3.1 is a viable tool and will stay so for some time!

so no P5i or other VGA-phones untill uiq 4 is released somewheare it middle 2008

Our readers from the U.S. would be glad to know that UIQ is planning to open “U.S. representation” to support Motorola’s efforts. This could easily translate into Z8 and other upcoming Motorola phones being released in the U.S

I saw this...

well, there's a UIQ logo in the top left corner, so it's maybe just a sample for that presentation

Yeah but it does look somewhat similar to all the P5i concepts we've been seeing and PeterKay has been saying they're accurate-ish. WOOT!

QVGA screen in a 520Mhz CPU! wow this has a very positive feedback in terms of benchmarking performance! imagine that this could even let the fastest Symbian phone atm to eat dust speed wise

QVGA screen for me is okay, what's more important was the performance, visuals are always second

Posted by the-flash
IMO it may have been "Maria" that has QVGA and not P5i.

Posted by m-one
New UI means new screen resolution. AFAIK SE won't use QVGA screens in their high-end smartphone devices anymore.

Posted by goldenface
The upcoming high-end devices have large screens so its a wise move stepping up from QVGA.

Posted by bodeh6
Well for the last 2 years, SE has always announced one phone the week of the CES show. In 2006 it was the W810i, then 2007 it was the W880i, does 2008 bold well for Maria W980i to be announced in the first week of January?

[ This Message was edited by: bodeh6 on 2007-12-02 05:07 ]

Posted by goldenface
Well there is definitely a pattern there, what with Maria also being a music phone too.

CES 2008 Jan 7th - 10th.

Posted by Dogmann
@razec

Of course 520mhz looks good and would be the fastest Symbian smart phone to date but then the current OMAP 2420 has been around since the N93 first came out.

Next year we ae expecting to see an advancement to OMAP Series 3 chips that offer 600mhz to 1ghz so 520mhz will not be the fastest at all. I really do hope that SE go for the OMAP Series 3 chip as not only is it faster but it is also more power efficient and has better graphic abilities to.

I have stumbled upon a Sony Ericsson patent that talks about a location sensing mechanism that combines GPS, cellular networks and even Wi-Fi networks! Check it out http://www.cellpassion.com/Default2.asp?id=308

What do you guys think about it? When would we see one?

Posted by soane28
Im sure the P5 will have the OMAP 3 chip, due to its announcement being delayed and then rumours that it was due to hardware changes.

It was also said before the proposed November announcement by some on mobile review that the P5 would be outmatched by moto and nokia offerings by the end of 08. So id imagine SE cancelled the announcement to make hardware changes to keep up with moto and nokias secret weapons so to speak.

All speculation of course, we will have to wait until the official announcement.

Update

Vodacom SA, 40% owned by Vodafone, are currently testing a prototype by the name of Magdalena, more details to follow....

Posted by xironghostx
I wonder what kind of phone it would be, magdalena..

Maybe the rumored low or mid-end UIQ phone.

Edit: Can it be the rumored P5? No codename in known on p5!

[ This Message was edited by: xironghostx on 2007-12-03 10:31 ]

Posted by the-flash
It's 50% owned

Anyway where did you hear this?

I doubt it's P5i because thats still a long way off for the networks to test it, I guess.

Posted by xironghostx
Yeah, probably not the high-end so called p5, but it could for sure be a mid-end UIQ phone.

Thanks. A fellow SA member told me.

If the networks are testing it then it should be close to release right? Plus there has, for the past 2 years, been a music-phone announcement early January.

W810i - 05th January 06
W880i - 08th January 07

Posted by bodeh6
SE needs to announce something by the first week of January to stay somewhat in the game. Nokia World starts tomorrow and I am sure we will see some more SE killing phones. N82 owns the K850i.

Posted by the-flash
Honestly, I'm surprised they testing a phone that has not been announced. It's usually still in testing at Vodacom when the phone is already out in the UK like the K850i for example.

Maybe SE will announce the phone and say it's already shipping much like the N82.

That would be great new but we haven't seen a single spy-photo or any "underground" data yet

edit: the thing goldenface wrote about vodacom is like underground-data, but not for me:)

Don't forget that SE also make Voda exclusives like the recently announced V640i which was then followed soon after by the K630i.

Posted by cellpassion

Hey just found this solar panel equipped SE car kit! Does anyone have any information about it?

http://www.cellpassion.com/Default2.asp?id=313

Posted by kEiThZ
Does anybody know which rumoured model matches up with the N82? I fear SE is far behind if it doesn't have anything to measure up. Spec wise, I think the only feature missing from the N82 was optical zoom...what else can you ask for really? Its going for slightly over 600 bucks in the US which is an awfully tempting offer with the high Canadian dollar.

Come on SE....catch up! Forget this 7 megapixels business. Do what the N82 does, just do it the good old fashioned SE way....better!

TBH i missed the days where SE or Ericsson made very Small high-end and high-spec'd phones like T68/T68i. imagine that tiny phone spec-battled head-to-head against the brick 7650 before P800 owns it this kind of philosophy brought SE into the midst of success against the giant nokia as it appears to be a david vs goliath rivalry of course you know who's goliath

If P5 is rumored to be alot smaller than P1 yet packing everything i'm sure this could lead to a serious threat for nokia to think about size aspects

Any word on any announcements before the end of the year?
Do you think that the Dec 12 date might actually be real?

Not really. It reminded me of K530 and T650, but it wasn't any of them.

@razec
i dont think nokia has/had/have any problem concerning size as much as SE does
(try to compare Nokia 5610 Vs S.E S500i size and functions wise )
not to mention a lot of other new devices both ways

Hi! Here some new codenames, 100% exist:

Lin - ?
Jie - K630
Akiko - maybe W890
Ayumi - maybe W380
Becky - ?
Bella - ?
Chen - K660 (I know this exactly)

@Mizzle

Did the phone you see look as wide as the W910i? The three buttons are the top of the phone were they at the very top, where the power button is normally?

The wideness of the phone and position of the buttons could suggest a gaming handset.

Nope, it wasn't as wide and the three buttons - that's including the power button - was located at the very top of the phone. Not like gaming buttons.

Sorry about the late reply mate, hadn't spotted your question.
