@cellpassion

I think when n-Gage fully launches, then SE might carry out Playstation phones since it should be the right moment.

I personally think Nokia is trying to compete with SE(Walkman...music? ring any bells?)

Posted by deasine
Obviously... Remember Sony Ericsson annonced their new Media Manager Interface (and Walkman 3), Nokia responded by including a new media interface too (we can see this in N81).

Only Nov 15 can tell if Sony Ericsson will raise their ranks.

Update

I have added a new 'Announced' section to the original post. This will make it easier to find the recently announced handset threads and the date they were announced.

Both K660 and W890 uses JP-8, while W380 has JP-7.
Code names? Not sure. Akiko?

Posted by ericvert
you seems to be right Akiko for w890, however W380 and k660 codenames are still mysterious...

concerning platforms names, I was talking about EMP hardware platforms, any idea?

So then...anyone have any more ideas/details on K850's successor yet??

Personally hoping they scrap the auto lens cover...it's just over-complex(I haven't seen a real cam use one, either)......

Posted by SilveR.
K850 successor.. next years

Posted by goldenface
@Aware

The autolens cover is a novelty, I'm not sure exactly what the purpose of it is. The last cam I seen with a lens cover like that was yeeaaars ago.

Also, I'm wary of leaving the K850i in moist environments as it would play hell with the mechanism. A simpler slide would suffice, the K810i solution is probably more robust.

I am disappointed that the K660 doesn't include a flash. In my opinion, if you are going to call it a cybershot at least give it the rudimentary functions of a camera. When was the last time, you saw a camera without a flash?

I know somebody will say that its for the low or mid market, etc. But the point here is that if SE produces phones that it labels Cybershot and they produce poor photos (which will happen in low light without a flash), than SE will manage to dent the Cybershot brand. So come on SE at least throw in an LED or two....

My criticisms aside, I do think these phones are excellently designed, with great feature sets and I am overjoyed that SE is finally showing us North Americans some love.... Providing they are priced decently, they will sell well....

W890i - Akiko

Please read posts from before... that question has been asked a million times. Next annocement is rumored to be nov 15 with the expected annocement of P5i and W980i... high end phones. None with flip/swivel though... or at least none that i know of.

As far as I understood, the K was the cybershot line.....

Posted by laurenke01
The K-series existed, as far as I know, before the Cyber-shot series (starting with the K800) existed. The K660i is non-Cyber-shot.

All Cyber-shots are K-series but but all K-series are Cyber-shots.

Nope... Sony Ericsson has made many K series phones with excellent cameras, the introducin K800i for cybershot phones. HOWEVER, K series are for bar phones in general. Cybershot phones are bar phones (as of right now), therefore, belong to the K series. The only exception where bar phones aren't placed in the K series are Walkman devices, Business devices, "showcase/highlighted phones" under the Tseries, etc.

Let's look at the K530: not a Cybershot phone.

If you look at the K660 website, it's also not a cybershot phone.

Hmm... here's what I've got:
Kim = J110
Melody = J120
Gisela = K200/220
Sania = T650/658
Anabel = Z250/258
Nathalie = Z750

All have been announced, but if Daniela isn't the Z750, then it may still be the slider Cyber-shot phone.

Posted by gola
should we be expecting a k860i?
such as in the case of k800i to a k810i...

Z750i
Is Daniela trust me

Thanks for clearing that up for me. However, I am still a tad suspicious that SE is trying to get the halo going around its K series as a camera line. If a somewhat more knowledgeable person like me made this mistake....its very likely a consumer will think K is the camera line....

Posted by goldenface
Just to clear things up, this is from Wikipedia:

Posted by shaliron
@goldenface
I helped write that

@kEiThZ
Well, the K series all have cameras, and it seems to be the series which has all the flagship camera phones, but every phone that is part of the K series has a camera and is a candybar.

No announcement on nov 15?????

@Goldenface - do u know the reason or was november 15th just a date picked out of thin air?

Posted by m-one
SE intended to make the second announcement on the 15th.
My source also told me their info-event was delayed for at least a week.
My guess is that SE is forced to delay this announcement. Don't ask me for the reasons. We should wait for the 15th to see what's gonna happen.

I was told to get the full info package on Nov. 13th. first.
Then he said it will be delayed. At least his info-event. That's of course not the same as the announcement date.

Thanks for the Info, I guess SE wants see how iPhone successes in Europe.

Posted by cellpassion
I doubt if they are waiting to see how the Brits respond to the iPhone... Anyway, the devices they announce won't be available immediately, so that doesn't justify the waiting game.

I was guessing the same thing. The UK launch was muted. Did the french and german launch go down as well? I can't help thinking this had something to do with it. ??

Don't forget, there's also a pretty sudden N-series announcement by Nokia on Wednesday...probably as much reason(if not more) as iPhone launch......

its just a n82 with same features as n95 + xenon flash in another formfactor
i would still prefer n95, because the n82 is way to ugly

@k850 successor:

N82 Looks way more ugly than N82, it just disappoints me with the fact that it uses 8850 buttons and quitely resembles K550 but as the best feature packed phone i would say this one tops N95 anyway we have different tastes

Well I don't think SE is delaying their announcement because N82, I think more iPhone than N82, how iPhone will acclimatized in Europe.

But really what are they going to do?

If the iPhone isn't well recieved they're not going to just dump the phones they've developed because they think they won't sell well. They've poured heaps of money into developing these phones and they know theres a market.

So i don't believe they've delayed it to see how people react to the iPhone.

Posted by goldenface
^^They won't dump anything because of the iPhone but timing is everything when it comes to announcements.

Nokia and SE in Europe do have a habit of announcing new phones within days of each other as each tries to counteract each others actions and steal each others thunder. Its just business.
