SE has nothing to show on that picture?

maybe the P3i

All this talk about SE to compete with Apple's Iphone is getting out of hand.

SE NEEDS to think BIG and compete on the GLOBAL scale not a limited target market; even though Apple's has been HUGELY successfully.

I really want to see the successor of the P990i... And they should include the FC to satisfied the old time P-series users..

You and me BOTH! However most ppl like simple solutions to the most common problems & annoyances. For example I don't care what Vista brings new to the PC ... I just want to be able to enter information on one application, quickly jump to another and launch it and not have to
a) be FORCED to view the splash screen until the app loads
[ so far only Firefox & Lotus Notes I've seen do this; Notes I click on the splash screen its gone]
b) I jump back to the application I'm working on NOT to be interrupted by the GUI interface of the one I've just launched. I wanted to use it but with me interacting or inputing into another application the OS or that new application should realize that I'm not ready to interact with it just at that moment it finishes loading; I just don't want to wait for it to load when I AM READY to use it. This is for the office or home PC, btw

Simple solution requested for a simple annoyance/problem.
IPhone offers this with visual voicemail = perfect.
(sure Glenayre and Cingular are behind this solution as well too but still good).

in regards to the K850i I can think that with UIQ3 IF it was implemented not only would I be able to upload video to my blog, but I can change the look & feel of that blog, arrangement locations on page for that blog ( a lot better with Java); and even more range of font styles to choose from. More features to core functions (like new Slideshows ) could be implemented. catch my drift?

I want UIQ3 to have a HEAVY presence in teh Mid to HIGH end phones. No excuses.

Probably fake, or?

Posted by m-one
Absolutely fake. The design is not SE-like at all.

Posted by goldenface
Mmmmmmm! Thats a very good fake.

Does the speaker aperture remind you of anything?

Posted by shaliron
^Definitely looks fake, though it's a fairly good concept.

P3i = 3 way slider

That's the latest from the grape vine...

Posted by goldenface
Very nice concept, infact the only thing missing is the SE 123 designation.

I've heard about the p3i being a 3-way slider. Wouldn't that make it a N95'ish slide down for keypad, up for media buttons and slide to the side for Qwerty? Sounds a bit, well, fat?

Posted by shaliron
Well depends what you mean by 'fat', although I'd consider that the target market for the P3 wouldn't have thinness on the top of their priorities.

The design would be very much like a combo between the N95 dual slide (which share the same level), plus the Helio Ocean dual QWETY/numeric keypad slide.

Posted by goldenface
Hmm, the Helio Ocean would be a departure from SE design in my eyes and a 3-way slider would still make it quite largesque.

I would imagine a 3-way slider to include both a qwerty and keypad? So how many ways of inputting text would that be? 4, including on-screen keyboard and handwriting recog?

Are there actually any other 3-way slider devices out there right now? What would one look like

Posted by sealover94
This kind of sliding tricks are reducing the size of the screen...
The size of the screen is much more important!

[ This Message was edited by: sealover94 on 2007-10-23 09:58 ]

Posted by goldenface
A 3-way slider sounds to me like 'one upmanship' on the N95's two way slider and I can't find any other examples of one on the internet, at all.

When you think about it, people were ambivalent about the M600/P1i keyboard solution, so it wouldn't surprise me if SE gambled on ditching it altogether for the solution we see above, PLUS it also has an iPhone look about it.

Dont you think they should make one buissnes oriented phone and one phone aimed for massmarket (or more like P1 and W960).

Both phones got the same speccs but different design and software, ie. buissnes phone got querty-keybard and the "fancy" one got only touchscreen or normal numberpad. The software in the P series is more "read mail and not miss meetings".

goldenface,

Nathalie (Dechy) was Z750, Anabel was Z250.
Akiko is after Akiko Morigami (Japan) instead of A. Wakabayashi. Alona is after Alona Bondarenko (Ukraine). IMO

Exactly my thoughts.Well,I asked PeterKay if thats the case(in the M-R SE Annoucements thread yesterday),but he hasn't said anything so far.
So my motivation is,HOW is it possible to cram a full QWERTY keyboard,a numeric one, and multimedia keys in the available space?I doubt SE will use Helio-ish style. After all, there must be some powerful hardware,3.2/5MPix camera,a powerful battery, speaker(s) and so on.If they use Helio keypad, the phone will end up some 30mm thick...no thanks.

W350
Low end clamshell. Walkman version of the Z350. 1.3 megapixel camera. Could be W350. To be announced on the 11th of October

Emotional Designed
its emotional design

Z350
A new low end clamshell. 1.3 megapixel camera, bluetooth, and gesture control (something to do with accelerometer perhaps). A geometric design (criss-crossing lines in the shape of rhombuses), with the camera area integrated into the geometric design. It'll have a hidden external display and it is part of the emotional design series. Could be Z350. Should be approximately €150. To be announced on the 11th of October.

That's 3 days before releasing iphone in Europe :D

This tri-slide thing sounds interesting.

Sounds like a Pantech Duo, but with one more component.

http://www.boygeniusreport.co[....]ech-duo-says-nice-to-meet-you/

If the numeric keypad and the music controls (assuming that's what the third component is) are on the same plane, the phone wouldn't need to be much thicker than the N95. Ish.

Intriguing indeed. I hope the P3 is amazing.

With only 2,8 inches screen (if it's true) ....i don't think so...

Well, since we are now getting rumors of 2008 announcements and releases does it not make sense for them to be in a 2008 thread

-and yes, I also believe that call / end keys will become more common in se phones (as long as all goes fine with them in the k850)

Go to the first post and see that there are already many rumors for 2008 and yet to be updated, as long as there won't be new announcement left for 2007 (except the rumored 15 nov announcement) so openning new thread for 2008 rumors is just a great idea, keep it up goldenface.

New live pics of W890i in Pitch Black color (from Allegro - polish online auctions - http://www.allegro.pl/item260[....]ropie_sony_ericsson_t921i.html )

Posted by miguel82
The w890 looks great but im more woried about the specs... So far i notice a 3.2mp, a bigger screen and finally a decent keypad like the older SE phones. Theres still the lack of the camara led light. And about other specs does anyone knows? Radio, Walkman V3, acelometter etc...?

Posted by NightBlade
Of course it has then new Walkman 3.0 and the media center. It's based on the new Java platform, as earlier spy shots and the Send/End keys suggest.

Surely it will have Radio, since it's thicker than W880 and same thickness as W910,

Walkman v3, Media Center, larger screen 2.2" could be, are the basic features found on jp-8 phones. however we wont know if there would be accelerometer if it would, then W910 is dead

Posted by deasine
Well according to press releases from Sony Ericsson, their A200 Java 8 Platform phones have accelerometers...... So far all their Java 8 phones have accelermometers (Z750, K850, W910)

If we research to their developer site, JP-8 does not have native support for extending accelerometer's capability as seen in W910, but they have added accelerometer function by embeeding the accelerometer API JSR-256 to enable UI autorotate, and motion sensor in gaming. aside from the JSR-256, SE also added OpenGL ES API for better 3D games in JP-8. note: OpenGL-ES is the Graphics API used on Symbian S60/UIQ Smartphones.

So wait then JP - 8 will have accelerometer then right?

Even if it's optional, Sony Ericsson really needs some "umph" in their phones to actually compete in the world's market. Currently there are 4th, if they ever want to rise in their ranks, we need some interesting, innovative features to attract consumers to purchase their phones. I'm sticking with Sony Ericsson all the way since i love their phones. I used to say Sony Ericsson is to "apple" as Nokia is to "microsoft" (I'm an apple fan too) but that's until Apple introduced the iPhone (let's not go into the iPhone discussion).

Shaliron asked me to open a new thread as he has other commitments right now and so can't be as dedicated. The old thread was opened in October 2006, so I think the time was right.

@razec
AFAIK, Daniela (as said in the old thread) is the Z750.

The best way to find out the codenames of the phones is by going through the service menus of them when they come out.

...and I'm liking the black W890. Hope they come out with a Cyber-shot version (to succeed the K770) as well - one with JP-8.

Anyway will there be a touch screen iteration of the A-series platform? or will it be the main input for the next A300 platform?
