really...what??? p1, w960, g900, g700, are stable phones, without any critical bugs...

UIQ3 has a small but great quality library of software, software keeps being released (Opera 9.5, stuff from CPS, etc), there´s a great hacking and mod scene, etc

i see no reason for not buying it...just because SE "said" UIQ is dead??? did you think all UIQ3 phones started a time-bomb???

I dont know any exact problems to quote ATM. But Ive heard of alot of crashing and the like, so its not very reassuring. Add to that the fact that SE wont do anything about it. I had a friend with a P990, he never experienced any problems, and then suddenly all the buttons stopped working. It doesnt sound that great to me. That is what I meant. Can anyone tell me once and for all what they think of the G900 build quality? Ive seen dummy models and they feel even cheaper than the iphone, believe it or not, but then in pics it always looks really great. It seems to me the buttons on the sides seem tacky, as if from a toy, the d-pad has a lip on it which feels really annoying, and the centre button is tiny, the keypad seemed misshapen, somehow. I will admit though the back looks great .

I suppose though, if I am going to learn to use a new smartphone OS, it might aswell be WM, since that will continue, and in that case even if there is a problem, you have support enough to sort it out. UIQ is a dead end in that respect, where if it no longer works that is your problem. Money should not matter too much since I could get either on a contract if I wanted to.

X1, however, seems underdeveloped to me. I'd prefer more of a unified UI (like Touchflo, but SE style) throughout the phone, making it useable, rather than just making mismatching 'panels' stringing them together with a couple of animations and calling that a UI. The X1 is close to perfect, scrap the keyboard, improve camera features and performance, add an accelerometer and there it is. Everything else on the market which meets that description so far is missing something, whether its a d-pad, or a 3.5mm jack or whatever. But Im not sure about the X1 yet. When's that review coming along Mizzle? Some people are waiting

Posted by Mizzle
Tigershark,

We're working on a very large review, so it'll take some time, but it'll be good!

Posted by makbil
When talking about the X1, you should compare it to its direct competitor HTC Touch Pro, not to the iPhone which is no more than a joke to the techies.
It's interesting to see that this X1 vs. Touch Pro comparison seems to be avoided by most. I find the specs of the Touch Pro slightly better than those of X1, price is slightly lower and fw support is bound to be way better than SE.

I'm not even going to waste my breath over the P990 for which SE has not provided closure. Even the P1, although the fw is stable, has a number of important features missing which SE will undoubtedly not fix. Since things have not been going well for SE, I suspect the build quality of G900 is worse than P1, which wasn't as good as P990.

Perhaps the SF will give SE an opportunity to get its act together and again start manufacturing devices that could realistically compete with other brands both in technical specs and in price.

Missed the link but the X1 actually has slightly (very slightly) better specs than Touch Pro. If I come across it again, I'll post it here.

Have to agree that comparing iPhone to X1 would be useless; it's like comparing a stripper (albeit a very pretty one) to Catherine Zeta-Jones

Posted by rustam07
I feel that Sony Ericsson has a problem with R&D.. What's a pity!
Nothing interesting..

Posted by makbil
They are very closely matched but HTC Touch Pro has a more advanced processor (Qualcomm MSM7201A 528 Mhz on HTC Pro vs. Qualcomm MSM7200 528MHz on X1), video out and Accelerometer sensor which the X1 doesn't have. On the other hand, X1 has a 3" display vs. 2.8" on HTC and 400 MB RAM vs 288 MB on HTC.

It's just that we talked about this when he said he'd do a live photoshop, and I said something about people would believe it

And yep, very satisfied. Am going to give it the highest USEB review score yet.

Hey Mizzle, feel like taking a leak? We haven't had anything substantial in a while.

Posted by Mizzle
Nope, not really. Will leave it up to SE to decide then leaks will happen

to Muhammad-Oli,

What are you waiting for? Leaks of "Copy-paste" phones?

Are you attempting to troll?

SE may have some copy paste phones in the works, but not all of them are.

But everything with a touchscreen is now compared to the iPhone lol. And in the minds of the general public, a pretty UI is everything.

Good to hear since I want this phone.

Posted by Zuckabaecka
before i bought the w910i (because the speed of my p1i was terrible and I wanted a thinner phone) I was looking forward for Hikaru.
Anyway I think it won't be that phone I wanted.

8mp, 8gb and a slide with touchdisplay......don't want a phone with 20mm in my bag......

but the first specs are very nice

Posted by Tigershark42
To me its just the fact that its taking far far too long. The X1 is great. Yep. But you cant have high end without going for WM. That can make the choice very bad for some.

@mizzle
exactly hw many days for x1 review?

exactly how many days until next announcement

Hikaru looks a bit like Paris.

The last rumours of Hikaru we heard was that it was a slider but had no d-pad but Paris did have one.

Does Hikaru have a d-pad?

No.

The Hikaru rumours are a bit confusing.

One rumours points at it being a Walkman device, however, at the same time it it supposed to have a qwerty of some sort (e.g. Paris).

Qwerty's are normally associated with business devices so I'm none the wiser I guess.

Posted by bodeh6
Oh the confusion. So Hikaru is not a updated Paris. Its a new phone.

Simple, in my opinion: Xperia. The X1 is already the blending of multimedia (3.5mm jack et al) and business (QWERTY), so Hikaru as the next X-series phone would make perfect sense.

Frankly, I wouldn't be surprised if xell's PS isn't too far off the mark.

I would lol. Hard.

Posted by laurenke01
Maybe not the precise design, but the philosophy of it all. The Paris-esque vertical slider with full QWERTY, no D-pad, widescreen display (to facilitate S60 5th's 16:9?), metal, and Xperia label. It would match up to the rumors thus far.

Posted by SilveR.
Perhaps it will come with both normal keypad and Qwerty keypad.
one for business users, other one walkman? just my guess..

Posted by laurenke01
You mean like M600/W950 and P1/W960?

Perhaps there are two different phones and the codenames are just confused. Like one of the models that one of the leakers thought was Hikaru is actually not Hikaru... Just a thought.

Posted by goldenface
Various sources are saying it'll be a Walkman with at least 8GB internal - which makes sense.

Business devices, unlike music phones, are not usually reknowned for their huge internal memory and the W960i replacement is now overdue.

good to know that the odds are in favor of it not being ugly.

look forward to more leaks of specs and maybe even photos

Posted by gtr83
If it is the next Walkman then it'll be a full multimedia phone I guess, a la N85. But since doesn't have the time to develop a completely different OS (the SF decision is too recent) then it will be probably be based off on A300, if there is one. Maximys said in his blog that "2009 will be year of Walkman phones". Fortunately people have taken a clue from somewhere and put a quite decent camera on W902.

not really excited. just a glimmer of hope for "shock"

if it's nothing special, i won't be disappointed. I'm already expecting to wait til second half of 2009 before upgrading anyway...

That phone is absolutely insane.... 3.8" touchscreen with 1024x480 resolution!!

Anyways....SE should just ditch the walkman brand, since they refuse to use 3.5mm headphone jacks. Most people don't like some ugly adapter hanging from their phone.
