copy-paste for low-end is okay. What do you expect? New and great features in a low-end-phone?

Posted by Muhammad-Oli
Yeah that's true, and the F305 does have an excellent looking design, so I wouldn't be complaining if this one came out.

Don't worry, high ends are on their way soon!

Posted by Zuckabaecka
Ohhh! good news!

so maybe we'll see one (ore more ) highend-phones, rika and this low-end-phone. Maybe Kate or fillipa too? Ahhhh the feeling i missed for a long time

Posted by SE cz
@Zuckabaecka: copy & paste for low-ends is OK? You are funny.
I think every model should have his own specific "soul", including design, sorry.

Posted by moogoo
would be great to see a true w960 successor this available in time for xmas....

hopefully supporting american 3G too!

Posted by Zuckabaecka
I talked about the features and not the design and I don't think that this F305-copy will exactly look like the original just with a walkman button....

If you take a look to the other manufactures you will see that every low-end-phone is a copy-paste-thing.

And i am considering the 5800, because like Eldar said, it is indeed a revolution, at that price, although i consider s60 to be inferior to UIQ, and despite the absence of a keyboard.

@ares, take a look at HTC Touch Pro. I've been using Tytn II for a while now and although the P1 does have a few advantages it's not that difficult to make the switch. The enormous number of software and the ease of customization more than make up for its cons. The only thing I miss on the Tytn II is the FM radio which Touch Pro has.
The concept picture of that "P" series look OK, I could still go back to SE if they can get their act together and give us a device in the spirit of the P900 - though I don't see much chance of that happening.

Posted by Zuckabaecka
well imo the p-series "fight" with the S740 and the X1 with the touch pro.
And the p1i is imo better than the S740 (just the speed of the p1i is a big disadvantage)......like i said IMO

Posted by makbil
The speed of the P1 is not a real disadvantage in real life. Tytn II with 400 MHz processor gives about the same performance as the P1. Perhaps the biggest advantage P1 has is with HWR, it's so much easier to write on the screen.
SE did have quite a few advantages with UIQ+TS, if they switch to WM or S60 (which seems inevitable) I just don't see what leverage they have over their competitors which are cheaper and have better features.
Just a simple fact of life, how long did we wait for fw updates? I got my Tytn II with WM 6.0 and already have WM 6.1 on it, soon will have WM7 when it becomes available. Instead of copy/pasting new phones SE has to seriously improve its support and the way they view their customers in general.

makil...sorry, windows is just not an option...tried and completely hated it (htc diamond)...unless version 7 is much different, its totally off my desires...

i am seriously considering the 5800 if it does come super cheap as people are saying, of course after testing it a bit (my brother will be an early adopter, so i´ll be able to make a complete test with it)

X1 level high end, or just the-remainder-of-the-portfolio level high end...

What turns me off from WM is that the interface doesn't have a back or cancel function. Your only options are OK and CLOSE.

I'm also seriously considering 5800 thanks God it's a smartphone so I can install all business apps in it and forget the "comes with music for kids" or what ever.

Unless SE can come up with something early next year but there's no way they can't beat the price of 5800.

New phone from Sony Ericsson - Yao. Yao is a entry Walkman slider with good desing. Probably, Yao is named W305, becouse it has same specifications as F305: screen 176×220, camera 2.0-Mp, etc. Design is also same as F305. Yao has a high gloss front finish (as the well copied from S302). Yet I don’t have more info about Yao. The new Yao will be available from March, 2009.

Just slightly more info on the Walkman version of F305...

Interesting.

5800 never. It doesn't even have a qwerty. However, it's better than iPhone.
From all those options X1 is strongest. I rather pay more = have more, than pay less = have less. And X1 looks like a complete phone, even if it's WM.
Nokia UI looks terrible, I rather choose WM, as for me.
But that may be good to wait for SFoundation.

Ya but even if X1 is superior in many ways, the magnitude of the price compared to 5800 is much too great. (from what i've heard the price of X1 to be...)

Good to hear Oli For SE's sake as much as for my own

Posted by makbil
I wouldn't venture on another adventure with the 5800, at least WM works and you can customize it as you want, something we are not very used to on SE phones. Actually it's closer to UIQ3 than S60. I'll give SF about 2 years and evaluate the situation, until then looks like I'll be with WM.

Posted by djin
I will basically jump to SF next year end(hopefully back to SE).

When is the 2009 thread starting Oli?

I also want to know this. Oli, I guess you getting inside info now that you'll be heading up the new rumours thread

Nah, not much insider info. I was getting just as much before I was announced as Goldenface's successor!

And that's hardly any at all! But hopefully the job will have a few perks.

Goldenface and I have been in discussion and we have decided that the 2009 rumours thread will open after the last announcement of this year, whenever that is. I will be on holiday from university by that time, so I will be completely ready to open the new thread when Goldenface says so!

Posted by djin
So i will be expecting 09 thread in november.

Posted by domipost
Is that a hint?

Posted by djin
not really, but like before, i think se's next announcement would be during that symbian conference(i think it was october 2X) +or- a week.

the SE developer website says it's 21-22 October...

Interesting WHAT will happen.
However I wouldn't count for any announcements (am I wrong?).

The only phone announced during the smartphone show was the P990. 2 smartphone shows have past and there hasn't been any SE smartphone announced so i doubt there will be announcement this time as well - especially that SE are a fan of posting I something at least a month earlier when they are going to announce something big.

Posted by Muhammad-Oli
Yeah, but the announcement with the X1, C902, C702, G700, G900, W980 and Z770 was one of the biggest I have seen, but they didn't hype that announcement up much.

Then the C905's announcement wasn't hyped up by SE.

Then the W902, W595 and W302 announcement was hyped up and it wasn't very exciting at all!

Posted by djin
lol really?
I never noticed SE doing like that.

Posted by Muhammad-Oli
Yeah SE made a countdown website for the W902, W595 and W302 announcement, but nothing for the bigger announcements I mentioned.

Posted by djin
yeah, only for the walkman fones i have seen.
X1i's announcement, was like a total surprise!

Edit: Lol just noticed, You and I both joined on the same day and month .

Yes, but once announced, the X1 was hyped up to no end. It even had its own website lol! I doubt they would do that all over again with a new handset so soon...

Posted by Muhammad-Oli
@djin: Ah true, we celebrate our Esato anniversaries on the same day!

@Tigershark42: Yes, but by that stage the X1 was no longer a rumour. We are talking pre-announcement here.

Posted by Tigershark42
Well, if we are talking about it taking 8 whole months (from announcement to release- just like February announcement to October release for X1) for a device able to match or outperform the X1, with all the hype in between, then yes I would hope they would announce it now, so that it would release around halfway through 2009, which is when SF devices and WM7 devices are approximated to surface.

Another possibility is that the next one has been in development for longer by now, and won't need as much time from announcement to development (this is most likely for an OS which isnt new). I am doubtful of this though, since all the rumours used to be that they were prepping lots of UIQ devices, which since got cancelled because UIQ is being replaced, and its preferable to work towards SF than the short term UIQ.

Another possibility is that they wait till the first anniversary of the X1 to give us a successor (sounds like SE, but can they afford to keep being so slow like that?).

But with all the interesting goings on in the mobile world, SE sees serious competiton now and all sorts of OSs and possibilites coming along, I dont think SE can afford to just keep A200 the same for another year, or not bother giving Walkman handsets more than a 3.2Mpx cam without AF, say. Hopefully more interesting things will be coming soon, as you say, Oli.

Posted by domipost
Maybe they are optimizing the UIQ devices for another UI (S60? WM?)

So it has HSUPA? Nice. The C905 and G705 don't have HSUPA.
Hopefully it has some US 3G love too
