So those of you that rushed out and bought the C902 with its "Photo flash" (marketing term for LED flash) can trade up soon.

I bought my C902 because it looks good, and that's why I'll definitely skip this thing above.

(btw, cellphonesail.net got the pics, not GSMArena.)

Okay one more:
I think Kate = C780

Posted by Maximys
Guys, it's to early to talk about Kate's model name. BTW, we don't know how looks Kate.

Posted by moogoo
can't believe there's been almost 3 pages of speculation of what the model name of this device will be...

what does it matter?.....

Posted by gola
I don't think this kate phone is higher spec'd than the c905, it just doesn't look the part,imo...

Posted by Maximys
Filippa - codename of that 5-Mp phone, while Kate has 3.2-Mp camera.

THANK YOU!
Someone who doesn't have a stupid amount of time on their hands to waste! What's in a name? You can call the X1 the X100000000 if you feel like it, but it will still be the same thing :S

@ M. Oli:

Hmmn I actually like the C905 design, but am put off by the bulge where the camera is. Of course, that was not a design choice but rather a feature choice to fit all the camera internals and the flash's capacitor. If it didn't have that, and wasn't so thick, I would say its an excellent design.

I like the way the G705 looks, for the most part, the only thing I see SE getting wrong time and time again is the navigation cluster. I have pretty slim fingers, but still I find all these buttons too tiny! On A100 phones it is fine, but A200 ones have the call/end keys (why can't they be a single key, or better yet not be there at all, since the phone is just as practical without them IMO, the softkey option does the job) aswell and that makes it too messy. The C905 has it right there, so did the W910. Clean and functional.

Oh W890 is hideous to me- too rounded and tingy in almost every way :S Couldn't press the right keys, they were too small.

I agree with you, the future of SE looks bleak- if you do not consider the X1, which is an extremely attractive design (well, the back is abit lacking, but its fine). Hopefully at least the high ends will take similar forms, shapes and looks as this. I used to always say SE had the best looking designs, but lately that hasn't been true. Samsung, LG and even *dare I say it?* N*kia have some more attractive phones. Even the T series, the one that is meant to look especially good- looks the same as everything else. Too much of the copy-paste technique? Absolutley. And then some.

Posted by gola
Hmm, what's in a name?
Well for one, time was spent on making a nomenclature to name the SE phones according to their spec ranges and formfactor. So i'm thinking this must some how have significance...Besides, it's always nice trying to guess some stuff, well I should think so, it's not like the pages on Esato are finishing up...But hey, just my two cents.

Codenames of models that has not been released:

Filipa
Rika
Jody (may have been cancelled?)
Kumiko (cancelled too?)

Posted by Phoner
Kumiko is G705 as far as I have heard...

Posted by Maximys
Jody???

Ah, thanks for clearing that up.

I found these unconfirmed images which relate to a patent filed in November 2007.

The flip folds down, underneath and around to the back to reveal a full touch screen. The source page links it to the SO907i.

This month - exact date not known. Quarterly figures are also being annouced this month.

@Angello

The above flip I found when searching for images of the SO907i. Of course it would be too much to ask if you (or anyone) could confirm if something like this will be for European realease.

That phone looks like a P series phone . What if SE, releases the P version of that? That would be kool, however, that pic still looks ugly.

Posted by gola
Nice patent though

Agree! That is a P series going through evolution, definitely!

I would buy it the moment it comes out provided the specs are excellent!
Hell, why don't they give us this thing with the new SF OS? I hope that's the whole idea, only thing is they should make the design much more appealing than that.

That is definitely interersting.

Bring back the P series design, please!

Posted by Muhammad-Oli
Patents never show final designs. They are just for the concept which in this case is the way the flip folds around the phone. If this came to market it's pretty safe to say it won't look like that. I don't think it looks that bad... The keypad makes it obvious it's a Japanese market phone though.

...but it doesn't necessarily mean it may not be released worldwide, particularly when it resembles so much the first P series designs.

I really hope it becomes a reality with that huge screen, does remind me of my P910i and I'm very fond of that phone, plus it is still serving me very well indeed.

Posted by doministry
When I think of Pseries it makes me sad.
Looks like nothing new coming.

Posted by Dups!
You and me both doministry! Sad indeed what they did to the beloved P series.

Posted by mustafabay
Only thing weird about the patent is what does it add over what well the P800 did? Flap over touchscreen, that's if flap touches touchscreen. Or am i missing some finer details? Of course me needing sleep could be the reason too.

Posted by Dups!
I think the major advantage is that you don't have to remove the flip like in the old P series. So, if you don't need it you just fold it over and if you need it later you don't have to rush back home to put it on.

Obviously, for the rest it would be updated specs.

not sure, but was this ever posted?

http://www.sonyericsson.com/c[....]dyInfo?cc=us&lc=en&sortorder=0

interesting that for the US it says X1 is released Oct. 6, 2008. That's obviously not true.

Seems to be a legit SE site though....

Posted by Mizzle
This is not the X1a, but the X1 which was released on the 6th.

Posted by moogoo
i see...

I just thought the info would be relative to the location I selected, which is the US. It indeed does eliminate certain models and accessories not to be released in the US. I guess it was too much to assume that they would put the corresponding information for the release info relative to the US as well.

Indeed it was, especially when considering that it's an internal website that is not supposed to be publicly available.

I really canīt find anything to get excited about in this thread. SE is going down from what i see. Windows Mobile and loads of buggy feature phones do not tell me anything.

Also, after they destroyed UIQ and choose to make use s60, then we might as well use the original and better s60 device manufacturer (yes, Nokia...never thought saying that). And i am considering the 5800, because like Eldar said, it is indeed a revolution, at that price, although i consider s60 to be inferior to UIQ, and despite the absence of a keyboard.

After 5 years, my love story with SE seem to be reaching an end...but we never know, maybe in a year things will be different.

Posted by CrazyGuns
ares, did you just say s60 touch by sony ericsson??!!!!!????!?!?!!!?

Posted by Angello
just wait a little bit guys...

Well, I agree on one thing repeated also by myself as mantra - why they screwed UIQ and now buy the technology.
As for Nokia Tube - sorry, WHERE is the revolution? This is not a device I think of...
Anyway, clearly lack of UIQ leaves un-filled gap, where everybody chooses different aspects and devices now.

As for SE, it's not so down... At least X1 seems to be a really good one,
actually it looks like almost complete device.
Honestly, I rather choose WM than S60 from Nokia (an it looks ugly too).

Posted by Tigershark42
Yea, I too would prefer WM, especially with the next version coming soon. It looke to be more complete as a serious OS than S60 IMO. But I suppose both OS's will try to look iphone like as regards UI sooner or later. I think SE did right to ditch UIQ just because it didnt seem to go anywhere...its true, S60 simply has more prospects. Same goes for WM. I agree about the N*kia tube though, it looks cheap and nasty to me, its all plastic and it looks like a toy for little children, aesthetically, it looks f**king terrible. Its almost funny. But I digress. Here I think Eldar really does show alot of N*kia favouritism by calling it 'revolutionary'. I mean WTF!? W902 'should have been cancelled' but Tube is 'revolutionary'!? Yeah, no, this guy is level headed :S

the revolution is the prize you have to pay for it. I has pretty good specs considering the prize, but the phone is IMHO pretty ugly

Ok, I didn't mean ugly but the fact it gives nothing new.
The price is ok, but we talk about specs. I'd choose G900 over it...

Couldn't have said it better myself! That thing is not revolutionary be it in terms of price, design or specs. It is pathetic!

Anyway, I am really mourning the death of UIQ. I am waiting to see what the SF brings to the table and take it from there. I'm just not a fan of WM and it is going to take some convincing for me to jump on board the WM ship.

SE really know how to screw up!

specwise, the Tube trumps the G900 in every area, apart from the OS and camera

Posted by doministry
Hehe,
I'd rather say that 5800 Tube triumphs only on HSDPA area and bigger screen.
I can bet it has no Docs editor for instance.

HSDPA, GPS, bigger and better screen, which means it's better at playing video, plus it has VGA-recording, DSP for better music experience, 3.5mm port and quite a few more 3rd party programs compared to UIQ.

But the UI isn't as appealing as on the UIQ

'Sony Ericsson strongly believes in the benefits of open source as a means of developing software for mobile phones and driving innovation.'

Hmmn, okay? So what's wrong with android then, exactly?

Doesn't sound like they are announcing anything, just early stages, development, ideas, etc. It will probably be 6 months or more 'till we see anything...

Remember how people like PK used to say that this year was SE's year? I wonder if there are any handsets we have not yet seen (excluding cancelled stuff) which made them say this...

Oh, this was said BEFORE the big shift in SE strategy.
As I was posting before, Pseries was going to be real beast, but it was slammed after. Seeing that protos, I'd say the same thing.

Posted by badassmam
Someone said that there were more recycled phones to come, maybe are recycling the P800......I wish.

Are insiders certain that the announcement is this month and not November which is what normally happens?

Posted by Phoner
If it hasn't been mentioned before, here is about another yet to be released copy-paste phone. http://cellphonesail.net/2008[....]-coming-low-end-walkman-phone/

It's sad, but thx 4 info.
