and if you compare this with s60 v5 (the UI of the tube)...no contest to what looks better...but SE will use the worse one

Posted by Zuckabaecka
this s60 touch looks like a work of one hour. The response of the display is poor (as I saw in a video - maybe it'll be better)

Posted by Pop Lover
Next announcement will be during this month
so how many high-end phones will be there?

Some good stuff coming early next year so this announcement could be interesting.

Edit: Does anyone have a date? It was SE's 7th birthday on the 1st October so I was expecting something then.

well imo this touch-symbian LOOKS not good. At first sight - there is no love for details..... so why I'm naive?

@topic
I hope SE will announce a new phone-generation with more power + A300.
But its gonna be rika.

interesting! could it be a hint for the next experia model because what they call the *active manager* demo looks a lot like the panals idea

SEMCBlog posted this. Although what the significance of the stylised lettering is anyones guess but I guess an announcement is imminent is the general message.

These concepts by UIQ look very attractive.
Some look like iPhone, but looks even better, and very modern.

The font of the coming soon text looks chinese and there was some r&d stuff moving to china or something, so possibly have to do with that?

Tbh, I've lost track of all se things especially rumors, since these things get strung out too often, for too long unnecessarily.

And here's the last comment of page 1111.

Really high-end Symbian Foundation Xperia devices are promised for next year according to Matts Lindoff, Sony Ericsson Chief Technology Officer.

Read scotsboyuk's article over at USEB.

Nice, really nice indeed I hope we'll se the some of the high-end phones already on the market in the first half of 2009

Posted by goldenface
Now I'm wondering what kind of specs a really high end device would have.

Posted by Maximys
Hecaro is wrong name.

Sound's great, but- how could it be SF if (apparently) SF won't be ready until 2010? All the same, I look forward to more Xperia devices Cmon SE, something with X1 specs, plus a C905 standard camera and an accelerometer. Don't care which OS too much, Would like hardware QWERTY to stay if possible, and preferable would be a screen with more colours. But to be concise- give me the right feature set SE

My theory about these UIQ concepts is that they are going to be contributed into SF once that comes along. Its in the concept stages now, and the code isnt written yet since the OS is not released yet. When you think of it, UIQ barely has anything to contribute to SF- perhaps a menu addition or two, a method of using shortcuts maybe, perhaps some better coding, and a couple of pointers on touchscreen tech. But even that sounds very shallow when you think that S60 is by far the main component of SF, and it has its own touchscreen tech going for it (albeit not as refined). So these concepts could make that worthwhile addition from UIQ.

i hope, we have a MULTI-TOUCH device in 2009

From what I gathered he was saying they will launch a Symbian Foundation handset next year (as in only one) and that there will also be really high end Xperia devices.

Btw, Sony Ericsson is announcing their third quarter results on October 17. Is announcement supposed to take place on that day?

@Tigershark,
SF os should be ready by h2 2009, and their first devices should be out in H2 2009.

Posted by goldenface
"We will launch a Symbian Foundation handset in the next year. There will be really high-end Xperia devices."

It seems to me that the context of these two statements was the same. i.e high end devices.

If he was talking about two different devices he might have said:

"We will launch a Symbian Foundation handset in the next year and there will be really high-end Xperia devices."

or "We will launch a Symbian Foundation handset in the next year. There will be really high-end Xperia devices too."

I hope there are high end symbian devices as it will interesting to see how they are progressing with this particular OS. He stated that a big part of choosing WM for the X1 was to break into the US market so I'm assuming the strategy for the non - US market will be somewhat different, using non WM smartphones.

Brute forced X1.

Right you are. I just checked the SF website. It says they will start 'operating' (whatever that means- presumably allowing use of the unified OS) in H1 2009. So it makes sense for devices to pop up in H2. Even better.

Posted by djin
Its a good news, and is actually making me reconsider buying the x1i, if it would come out sooner.

It will have a different codename.

^oh, any plan telling us?:D

hmmm... Perhaps the rumored yurika was actually hikaru

Posted by bodeh6
Well there is that Symbian Smartphones show in London October 21-22, both UIQ and SEMC are on the exhibition list, and SE is said to have at least one announcement later on in the month so.......

Posted by CrazyGuns
based on the uiq product showroom teasers, it'll be tough. If they do announce the superphone, it'll be a hard fight between the sony ericsson phone and the nokia 5800 for me. I'm still inclined toward's uiq because of familiarity and simple user interface..

hoping for the best.

Posted by domipost
They have to release the X1 verry quickly to announce the next XPERIA this month. If they announce the device while X1 isn't for sale yet, I think it will really harm it's sales

Not if its a different UI. Give people choices.

Posted by n3o
@all and especially Maximys, Mizzle, Goldenface& comp.

do you have any info, if in the near future any devices which resemble by design close to G900...(has Wlan&touch screen) will come from SE?!

I don't know about G900's successor, but there is available new phone with C902 design.

Posted by badassmam
@ Maximys

Do you mean that it has a touchscreen and looks like the C902?

I think he means Kate. The 5 mega pixel C902/K770i look-alike A2 phone.

Posted by Maximys
Not really.

Posted by goldenface
So Hikaru has been re-engineered again and now has a new codename.

Posted by doministry
So the question - are we seeing finally any UIQ topend phone,
or the story is over and Xseries takes it over?

what the fu*k?

K770 successor = 3,2MP in another design
and
C902 (probably) successor = 5.0MP in another design

errrm... that's boring Sony Ericsson. Take off the copy&paste-strategy. This year is so boring and I think the next year will be so - too. Honestly... =( LG, Samsung (and Nokia) are much better than SE this year. And I say this as a SE Fanboy. I'm sorry SE, but you fail!!! It's nothing more boring as Sony Ericsson atm.

Posted by Maximys
Even more copy-paste phones from Sony Ericsson coming soon.

Posted by patr!ck
wow!! Copy-paste-phones... What's that? I'm wondering how they would like.... o_O

c'mon on. Where are the innovations we were promised last year? *look where they are* .. oh! I doesn't see anyone. If it goes on like this year, we won't see good phones in 2009. But I hope =) I'm good things.
