I'm sure has a few surprises. As Mizzle was hinting, a lot of secret stuf;, even my source is keeping it very hush hush. Even so, he did say UIQ is still around, the Walkman 16GB will be a very fitting successor to the W960 (hint hint) but he was/is most impressed with the Xperia range i.e. a few coming soon and others being chalked up.

wants to do something similar to the N95 as in having Xperia with all round high specs and performance so that you wouldn't necesserily need a Cybershot, Walkman or P series for photos, music or business respectively; an Xperia should do it all. He did say that the designs make the Xperias very distinctive.

Posted by moogoo
Great. Added security means SE is planning surprises or at the very least, is trying to cut back on the "disappointments". With less leaks, comes less expectations and inturn leads to less disappointment. I think it's a good strategy.

I'm looking forward to whats to come. Will pass on the X1 and wait to see what the 16GB walkman and new xperias will have to offer. Hopefully will have a new phone by xmas, but if not, oh well. tryin to save money anyway.. haha.

Ah damn, better security means the 2009 Portfolio thread that I'm opening in mid October might be a bit quiet...

Posted by bodeh6
Usually UIQ come in pairs for the past few years.
M600/W950
P1i/W960i
G900/G700

So if this 16GB Walkman UIQ comes out, maybe another business oriented one will come out too.

Look on the bright side man, Finally the 2009 rumours thread will be filled with actual rumours and not just about every single leaked fact that(gets classified as a "rumour") gets true.

Won't that just delay the disappointments? People will still be disappointed if a phone is not good.

A better strategy would be to produce better phones!

My thoughts exactly. There has definitely been a drop in the amount of info, especially over the past month, however, interest in the thread is still quite high, if the 'numbers viewing this topic' is anything to go by.

SE are doing a good job of stopping leaks - I would imagine a few sternly worded memos have been circulated internally.

Hehe yep, indeed. Not sternly worded memos though. Rather polite reminders

Edit: Whoops, not all of the time. Just found one that was pretty hefty

Can you answer my question from the previous page if it does not get you into trouble

Really hope SE has many Hidden Weapon coming soon.. but when will this hidden weapon push out to the market?

I've noticed it's got ever so quiet and dull over on this rumour forum.

If there is anything Symbian/UIQ related left for this year, then you've got to think it could be lined up for the Symbian Smartphone show - 21st and 22nd October 2008 in London.

If not then I guess nothing will happen until 2009.

Posted by goldenface
Hey, thanks for the notice on the Smartphone Show. There will be another announcement before the end of the year, all being well.

Well there is a drop in the amount of info, because SE has nothing in their line up for past few months

however, interest in the thread is still quite high, if the 'numbers viewing this topic' is anything to go by.

Well its not the interest, but frustation of die hard SE fans who have been waiting for past 2 years for decent walkman, which has good Sq, cybershot which takes good pictures, & Smartphones P series ,

For Past 2 years i have Seen several threads on esato like " what is Successor w800, K800, P1 and so on,,,,,,,Wht should i replace my w800 or w810 or k800 or p990 with

Lets hope so although I can't recall any smartphone (other than P990 I think) of SE that was announced during the Smartphone show.

Please provide proof to back up these statements.

Its unfortunate to say but he does have valid points. SE's high end phones for this year look to be over, so if there is another announcement it wont be anything better than previously announced for this year.

Posted by jack00
he has to know, he is a scientist

Posted by idumbakumar
Me too i guess no more high end this year. Already we got some info on hikaru. But i see nobody talking about it recently. what happened to that. Was that just for a time pass? Though thats going to be real only hikaru is left for this year.

The most interesting part of Bluetooth 2.1 is NFC or Near Field Communication. Which basically means its possible to pair two devices just by placing them next to each other.

Currently, I only have to switch on the BT on my wireless headphones and phone for them to pair automatically. This must make the pairing of multiple devices easier.

Posted by the-flash
All this talk about BT reminds me of that patent from Sony Ericsson where one had to simply slide the file one was sending, in the direction of the receiving phone, provided you had a touchscreen of course. Seemed like quite a cool concept.

Posted by NoTnERb
im so excited with the x1!!! but one thing bothers me, when changing between panels, its kinda slow, is it not?any comments on this one?

Posted by jayce
Who knows until production X1 units are ready and reviewed?

Also now that HTC have leaked/announced the HTC Touch HD, is this going to eat into the possible sales of the X1?
After all HTC has the Touch Diamond and the Touch Pro on the market already and now the Touch HD is coming soon.

Sony Ericsson say the X1 will be launched on the 30th September but it'll take a number of weeks before you start seeing them in high numbers in the shops, by which time the HD won't be far off.

It's a crappy game of waiting, seeing other manufacturers jump ahead in the specs game and then wondering what to do.
Personally the longer I wait, the more dis-enchanted I become with but frankly I just don't know if I'd be happier on another device.

Posted by goldenface
Another Xperia device with UIQ would do well to make an appearance soon.

Its amazing how many blogs and news articles are commenting that they were surprised when they learned that Xperia might not use WM I future devcies when SE made it plain all along that it won't be tied to one OS.

Posted by ares
indeed...that was a know fact, for months...and now people make a big deal about it

btw, when will this happen???

http://justamp.blogspot.com/2[....]sson-announcement-in-lund.html

and this is also interesting

http://tmonews.com/forums/index.php?topic=1963.0

second android handset...will be from SE...and SE working on multi-boot OS phones (well...i heard about that before, sometime ago)

Not sure, no date on the 1st one, may be the proper invitations are still to be mailed out but it does look like a press event.

SE + Android? Thats certainly surprising.

Posted by xironghostx
Android phone? Could save the day maybe.

Then some questions popped up in my head:

*Is it using nexperia 210mhz?
*Multitouch?
*Resolution on screen?
*When is it going to be announced, and what price?

Anyone have the slightest clue?

The market for smartphones is really up in the air at the moment.

With the iPhone you get a pretty good device, slick, integrated interface and something that is easy to use, easy to install applications on and tightly controlled to provide consistency for the end user.
This also has its own problems:

- Only available on certain networks/operators
- Unable to unlock with any simplicity
- Below spec hardware in some areas (camera for example)
- Restricted to applications purchased from the iTunes store
- Restrictions on what audio and video formats that can be played
- No changeable battery, etc...

The Windows mobile devices have suffered random quality issues and you either love them or hate them. They are definitely not for the average user which causes problems for purchasers and vendors.
Of course the iPhone has forced vendors to up their game, hence the flux of new devices with fancy touch screen interfaces. It's a good start but Windows is still underneath.
That's good and bad:

+ A large hackers community exists, so customising these devices is possible and there are a lot of different customisations to choose from
- Hacking requires experience and is not for the faint hearted
+ Changeable batteries
+ A large software base of just about any application you could ask for
- Windows reliability
- Windows bloatware
+ You can play just about any audio or video format out there

With Symbian what should have been many years ago never quite got there, especially with the Sony Ericsson devices. Yes Symbian devices are big in the market place but that's mostly down to Nokia and now anyone interested in this segment is waiting to see what the Symbian Foundation brings.

The Android platform seems to have potential - more open than the relatively closed and tightly controller iPhone environment, but this also introduces the problem of too much choice ... too many flavours and inconsistencies.

When you think of the Chinese expression - "May you live in interesting times" it's no wonder this can be thought of as a blessing and a curse

Posted by chuksy
Android is the best thing that has happened this year so far. It will make alot of business sence for SE to join the OHA and release and android phone. That would surely boost their smarphone sales which has nose dived in recent months.

I think having so many smartphone OS's, each with their own loyal fanbase, some merging, others copying one another, some have features missing in others and vice versa, so all in all there is much uncertainty as to the future growth of each OS. So, the best thing SE could do would be to capitalize somewhat in each market. That is, have a high end Xperia handset for each prominent OS, and then go from there. \\Of course, they could then develop on the favoured OS. That would depend on which is easiest to use, which is easiest to write code for, which is better looking, which is generally popular etc. Such a plan would make sense, because UIQ is a lost cause now, and that once loyal fanbase will have to choose a new OS, and SE should not lose them to growing operating systems over which it has no control (currently that's OS X mobile, Symbian S60 and the soon to be Google Android). S60 and Android devices should therefore be developed to draw a broader fanbase to SE. IMO Android is the way to go, since it can do everything S60 can do, but it is touchscreen as standard. And what better way to test the waters than with high end products which atract full spec seeking consumers, the type who enjoy high levels of customisation and new experiences in general?
