I had a chance to play with HTC Diamond today. Nice device but I can't say it is significantly faster than the P1, which is expected of Micro$oft. The battery of the P1 would last at least twice longer than the Diamond. There is only one mini USB connector at the bottom which is also used for charging and as an earphone plug - no 3.5mm. The touch flo is very slick but for example you can't use the same finger tapping when within contacts. My P1 (and P990) is in a way much better since I use Primetech Contacts.
I will still wait to have a chance to handle HTC Touch Pro and wait to see what SE may have to offer for 2009 - except for the X1.

Oh My God

One guy posts stating Elder (A guy who runs a mobile phone review web site) got a letter from Sony Ericsson telling him everything SE are going to do this year and next.............

And the SE hatters jump on it and others believe it. Yet there is NO I say again currently NO proof of this letter.

Edit: And also today Nokia have sated as fact the N series is going to be scrapped due to poor sales.

But X1 looks like the strongest WM device (but maybe you don't want WM).
Just from looks, I take X1 over TouchPro.

Enough with the jokes, any news about the next G phone at all? Was this not supposed to be a G900 with GPS or what? Sorry for asking again but will there be a UIQ 3.3 update for the G900 at all?

Does anyone know if UIQ is being developed further i.e. UIQ 4 since 3.3 looks finished? The smape article says that would most likely focus on UIQ since it has little experience of WM, so where are the UIQ phones then?

Posted by makbil
Granted we haven't seen X1 to the extent HTC is displaying Touch Pro but the Diamond which is supposed to be very similar to Touch Pro is a very nice device. It's not a matter of liking WM (and I don't) but I have serious concerns about SE's ability to support a first generation (for SE) WM device with which they have no previous experience. For that single reason alone I would choose Touch Pro.
However slim the chances seem, I am still hoping for an improved UIQ3 device to fill the 2 year gap until SF is ready.

Posted by bodeh6
Lets just wait till September and see what happens. The only thing left to announce is some sort of UIQ device. We got enough Walkmans, Cybershot, and mid tier phones. A few UIQ High ends running 3.3 should let UIQ go out with a bang.

Posted by apolloa
@baddass,

I would expect one, I mean they developed BeiBei, so you know they have done it. SE will launch a G series with GPS and UIQ 3.3 no doubt. Lets not forget it will 2 years before a decent SE new Symbian alliance phone will be out. The X1 I think will sell well, mind you with the news of a potential 200 thousand iPhone order from HSBC, then perhaps Win Mo business phones will one day be few and far between.

It's alright SE you don't have to rush! I understand your economic crisis. Just release the canceled Paris for the mean time and I promise to be quiet for a year....

This is crap!! Why SE keep excluding the 3.5mm jack on Walkman phones? When will SE realize that the "adapter" is annoying to use?

Geez..Wake up SE!!

im very confused, why people always condemn SE by using fasport and did not use 3.5mm jack. in other case people always praises Samsung and Lg phone while they use their propitary port also and no 3.5mm jack.
and as far as i know, propitary port didnt affect their sales. ro i didnt think SE had the reason to put 3.5mm jack in every of their lineup.

The only concern I see is that
a new UIQ device, let's say P,
should definately have better hardware
to have UiQ 3.3, GPS, Opera 9.5 etc.
So, will they really invest in that now?
I still remember they huge drop in income.

this Eldar VS SE topic has been the talk of the mobile phone community for some time now....
but i think Eldar comments were all from the bottom of his heart. it's not like he's on payroll from a competitor, but he is making true comments based on what he thinks.
SE should hire this guy, oh wait.. i think he MIGHT be a trustful consultant commissioned to provde them with thoughts on current and upcoming products.

Eldar already killed the C905 in his "preview"...and that was from the bottom of his heart??

No, it says will likely focus on unified Symbian. It also says there will probably be no more UIQ phones from

The thing is, if phones from the Symbian Foundation aren't expected until 2010, then what are they going to plug the gap with?

If UIQ 3.3 is pretty much ready to go and let's face it, this was planned for the cancelled UIQ phones earlier in the year, then all it needs is competitive hardware.

Sure I know UIQ has a limited life now, but so does Series 60 as we know it.
Do you go with something you already know and control as a stop gap, or take a risk and shove out a S60 device, knowing that will change in a couple of years?

Personally I'm hoping for one last push on the UIQ front, sending out a phone that truly shows what the platform is/was capable of. I'm sure a large number of people would be happy with that for 18-24 months until the SF devices are ready.

I just hope that if there is an announcement in September, it's about a high end device *and* UIQ related

Posted by Yakkaimono
Well S60 is not really gonna die because the symbian foundation will be backwards compatible to it. So everything that is working now on S60 will later work on a Symbian Foundation device.
But I think there will be at least one or two more UIQ devices (I hope so).

You are slightly inaccurate because the Symbian Foundation OS will be compatible with the current S60. Yes only S60 and not UIQ. Nokia wins!!

Posted by jayce
I did say Series 60 as we know it

Sure, S60 apps will continue to work but we already know that Nokia are heading towards a touch screen interface, which S60 isn't.
So S60 in it's current form is on a limited life also.

I do take on board however that as a developer, your S60 apps now should still work in the future phones, so I'll admit that is an advantage.

Hmmm, I still think it's a gamble on 's part to switch to Series 60 now, knowing your users are going to have to learn a new interface and then another new interface in two years time.

Posted by BoyBawang
Yeah. Lets just hope that UIQs involvement with Symbian Foundation gives them major role on the interface part. But I believe Nokia is really eying on this iPhone like interface by UIQ:

Posted by adcamb
Everything I'm reading says that Nokia needs a hand with touchscreen generally. I find the interface on Nokia N series phones really awkward after so many years with UIQ.

Posted by jayce
I know it's difficult to say based on a photo of a non-finished product, but I think I'd be happy with an interface that looked like that (UIQ 4.x or whatever it may have been).

I know it's been many months, but how long has this photo been out?

It was rather a concept UI.
And I would definately not dream on any UIQ4.x, when nobody's sure about 3.3 coming out.

Posted by BoyBawang
But that will be the interface of Hikaru. As we already know by following this thread, Hikaru will have big screen WITHOUT d-pad or jog-dial. Imagine the pain of navigating this thing if its just standard UIQ3.3 (like using scroll bars in contact list and inbox). Only an iPhone like interface (in the image above) can compensate the lack of d-pad and jog-dial.

That's something you can't be sure.
And on UIQ 3.3 datasheet we see nothing like that above.

A little of topic but

Has anybody noticed how short the list is now on SE-World of upcoming phones
http://www.se-world.info/datenblatt_releasedates.php ?
And everything is filled in, no more rumored phones.

Maybe has just gotten better at preventing leaks? Of course this is just me being optimistic, but who knows.

Maybe you could have said the same thing to Xperia X1 panel had it been leaked before the device was announced.

It seems the closest announcement is September, no leaks, nothing to wonder.

Posted by domipost
Well, september isn't that long anymore, is it

Posted by chombos1
maybe SE has ran out of prototypes...
i'm still waiting for my 20 months old P990 replacement.

Posted by domipost
Yeah, maybe they have not enough money to make proto's for beta testing anymore

Posted by tob!s
Maybe they have some, but nobody is allowed to test or see it.

I think all the peeps waiting for high end stuff are out looking at touch pro's, and N95/N96's.

No-one will wait forever. I really thought i could wait for X1, or whatever Pnext would be, but im gonna check out a touch pro later this morning, and think i will probably take it if i can get a tidy deal.

Dissapointed in SE at the mo. they need to improve their management structure, so that all this

"will it be released or wont it"

nonsense doesnt happen again.
It gives the customer too much uncertainty.

Posted by mustafabay
Um we don't have one. And don't really care for one. After all we're esato. If anyone needs a thread well they can start one.

Posted by djin
I have heard the closest announcement could be in mid of september or later. But i dont think that source is quite trustable.

Seeing that Touch Pro is already on sale, X1 seems to be less and less significant as time goes by. Going by the specs alone, SE seems to top HTC in battery capacity and TrackID feature only, not very good for a late comer.

The interface will be different too.

Posted by idumbakumar
Sure it will affect the sale. But some of the thing will make x1 better in sales. As it has bigger screen, great video recording, 3.5mm jack, design, full querty. Good battery. Lets see. But could be earlier.

Posted by Astral1
Which sector makes up the greater sales figures, between, SIM free, or contract ?

The way it is going here in the UK, The touch pro maybe on sale SIM free, but not on contract yet.
This still gives X1 a chance to catch up.

I seem to be finding more main street phone shop websites showing X1 coming soon, than HTC Touch pro.
