So, the Xperia device is likely to be the JavaOne phone, a 16GB Walkman and Hicaru as a P series also in the pipeline. Xperia to come out this year but no idea about the others.

Who is the Xperia aimed at; business, youth or nerds? Is it UIQ? I think it maybe a multimedia smartphone like the N96.

Is Hicaru the only phone with UIQ 3.3 or are more ready? Will the G900 get a UIQ 3.3 update at all?

Posted by eternal_wind
P and G series ---> Symbian UIq

Xperia---> Windows Mobile UIQ

Posted by Hiron
@eternal_wind,

G705 and G502 are based on A200. I still didn't get the whole idea about Generation Web Phones. G900 without HSDPA?

@Sony,
I have read a japanese blog somewhere, and there is a rumour about SO907iCS. 3.0" (or bigger) WVGA 16.7M LCD, 10.2 MP with 3x Optical Zoom.

Do you have some info regarding on this? Or can you show a good forum that talks a rumour about SonyEricsson Japan?

and Xperia was never said to be WM exclusive

Posted by doministry
Yes.
And Pseries should be continued.

I wonder what's the final form-factor of Hikaru. Isn't the bigscreen + no dpad an early prototype?

Posted by idumbakumar
@ Boy bawang
me too wondering that what will be the formfactor? it should have the d-pad in both of our openion. we hope it will.

also" ARES " told that they have some three protos.
better He can explain what are the difference among those 3 so that we can assume about it.

@ARES
could u get that info from ur friend. we are expecting the same. now all everybody is in unclear state abt hikaru.

who knows SE may release two variants of the same phone possible na??.

@Hiron

Yes, there is the new 907i Series from DoCoMo coming soon, and the rumour says this time it won't be 'BRAVIA' branded - instead we will see a new 'Cyber-shot' - as Micks said, SEMCJ may modify 'Shiho' - removing the Xenon inner workings, and adding a modified Camera Module, so as to have the Optical Zoom. However, this is as yet unconfirmed - they may introduce the Xenon flash

Personally, the Paris form-factor is already perfect. But a Bigger screen while retaining the d-pad is too good to be true!

I agree.
If i'm right. Even its the last UIq so must be a milestone. In review it shouldn't have a cons column. 2.8-3.0 screen is more than enough retaining d-pad and size is must imo! I don't like the size of i-phone.even the rumored hikaru too. Also it should let place for stereo speakers.

Posted by clauf
I haven't heard about the 907iCS rumor yet... I only heard about DoCoMo not doing a 907i series, instead naming it something else [but that was a few months ago]... Sounds interesting though.

So do we know if the final UIQ phone will be Xperia branded or is the rumour about that referring to a separate device.

I think Xperia and UIQ will not cross each other. Xperia, if SE wants to keep consumers attracted to it, should keep it matched with Windows OS.
plain simple, X series should have Windows, taregted toward business oriented people (and not for the mass). while UIQ (P & G) series, shall be media rich, with tweaked interface to rival that of iPhone. i don't know if you agree with me, but if the company wants to attract people toward their UIQ series touch screen device, they have to optimize the menus to be easily managed by fingers. in other way, every menu/function/input should take the shape of relatively big rounded corners shaped highlighted icons.
i.e: menu shortcut on the desktop/inside menu/ etc.. should have a relatively wide halo shade, so that the user find it easy to touch and access everything else.

i'll try to sketch something that further explains my idea.

sorry for the long post

prototype_bo,

What more than official statements about the matter do you need to realize that your theory isn't true?

OT: where could I find blog/web with rumours in english about japanese phones?

Posted by goldenface
Don't know really. Because Japanese handset are made for their 'walled garden' they are rarely talked about outside of the country. I do get updates every now and again and update the Japanese section of the thread.

Posted by Mizzle
How about xumdeo's blog at blogspot? He posts about upcoming Japanese stuff once in a while there

My beloved w950 got stolen and i have been looking around for a new phone.
Reading eldar's G900 review i noticed he said he was completely hooked to the next phones in that series that would replace g900/700. Was he referring to paris n beibei that he later criticised or are there others and does anyone have info about them.

Wait a moment,
recent leaks say something opposite.
At least they say about Hicaro,
UiQ smartphone to replace P1i.

Posted by goldenface
G705 isn't UIQ

I'll have to check that out.

No, it says.

"September is looking like the next product announcement and this announcement will witness the last SE UIQ device and possibly the G705".

So it mentions two devices not one

Although, I still don't have a date for this annoucement. Any industry events in September?

Posted by Tigershark42
Might be abit OT, but I just read here:

http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_i8510_innov8-review-269p2.php

'Last September the major cellphone manufacturers Nokia, Samsung, Motorola, Sony Ericsson and LG all agreed to start using the microUSB port as a common connectivity port. So far only Nokia has made some steps in that direction. Now Samsung seems to follow suit. The new Samsung microUSB port is used for both charging and data connections.'

It seems true as well. Sony Ericsson have 2 phones now (if I recall correctly) which use mini USB- The Xperia X1, and the J132. You know what else? Both of those handsets therefore use 3.5mm Jacks, something alot of people here have been longing for in SE handsets. Well, it looks like we will be seeing more of this then

Why does so many people want UIQ in their phones. UIQ was good, but afaik UIQ is DEAD. I rarely hope that SE wont use it in any future phone. The should aim fore Google Android or Linux.

You're funny...
Nothing finally indicates UIQ is dead.
And, as for Google or Linux, they're either still in some beta stage or are not really polished.
And who knows what Google really does?
So there's no case...

Hey, thanks for posting, some good points.

More Xperia devices for next year and a cheaper candy-bar Xperia device not ruled out.

3.5mm jack won't be included for Walkman phones but you still have the option as each will come with an adapter.

Thanks.

Posted by BoyBawang

We will keep supplying our partners with the existing UIQ smartphones, yet we would hardly speak of any such new model appearing in the future. The Alliance has been just formed, and no global decisions were taken so far.

so far so bad

Posted by goldenface
I think he is saying that SE will still be selling the G900 / G700 and these won't be pulled just because the new foundation has been formed. I don't see whats bad about that really.

We don't really know exactly when we will see the new foundation devices appearing.

Posted by BoyBawang
@gondenface

He's implying that G900/G700 will be the last breed of UIQ phones. Now I start to doubt what's the final Hikaru OS would be.

Posted by idumbakumar
Will the hikaru exist?

Posted by BoyBawang
hikaru is still 2009! I can content myself with a Paris if ever it's miraculously announced

This is crap!! Why SE keep excluding the 3.5mm jack on Walkman phones? When will SE realize that the "adapter" is annoying to use?

Geez..Wake up SE!!

They should atleast include a 2 inch long adapter and not 3 feet.

stupid

Posted by domipost
The only problem of the adapters is that they are a bit long, and i totally hate the fast port. So, 3.5mm jacks would be good, but I don't think they are neccessary. MicroUSB though, would be great to replace the fast port. Still they have to make smaller adapters then. In that case, I think just a few people will need an 3.5mm jack then.

now now...

just because someone throws something out there, doesn't mean we should all react as if it's the gospel.

i won't believe it until a trusted source says so. but hey, even if they do, it just means something even better is in the works

and the source for such speculation is ??
but in case this happens, i honestly believe it is a move in the right direction. they must be clearing up the mess left from miles flint chaotic last days...
they are re-studying and re-desiging their strategy, and such (last minute) actions are good for the long term view

Yeah... I'm sure SE told Eldar all their plans. They didn't want to upset eldar by not telling him everything he wanted to hear about their latest prototypes so they sent him a letter )) Come on, you make me laugh! Get real! Could you please pot something that is REAL???!!!

MikeMeyers,

You've got a whole lot of stuff to learn about SE and their relationship with Eldar, I can tell you that.

Eldar yesterday received the letter from SE staff regarding the nearest future of the company. I'm disappointed...

[ This Message was edited by: rustam07 on 2008-08-13 21:02 ]

Oh man, there is a chaos on SE ,but Eldar just did good to SE with its negative comments and previews/reviews.
I really support him compared with all these thread that are in General forum.

Posted by MikeMeyers
That was not my point. Some people post here all kind of "news" without real backup, knowledge or confirmation. Also I'm not sure what kind of relation has Eldar with SE lately since he started to trash SE phones so badly... Just an opinion...

Posted by adcamb
I know nothing, but it would make an awful lot of sense, any device launched as "the last uiq phone" would be dead on arrival, a smartphone with no applications and none in development. It may make much more sense to focus on WM and bring forward the s60 / uiq hybrid, which can still run on versions of these phones updaed to next year's specs. This may be se consolidating for a brigter future.
