Yep. It's Hikaro btw.
Well, that's encouraging....

It would be nice if an equation such as the following one proved to be on the right track: Shiho - Japanese codename that brought Japanese quality : Hikaru/o - Japanese codename = Japanese quality again.
Hopefully Komiyama San is holding the reins tightly... or

because it sounds too low. we want to hear something classy.
btw, unless I miss my guess, the Japanese word 'hikaru' means 'light'. That sounds good, huh?

such great news on the new flagship walkman and pseries phones...
i'm really looking forward to seeing more of the new pseries flagship!
it will be a tough decision to make i'm sure....
i just hope they both support ALL US FREQUENCIES!!

Somehow I am having a deja vu.... I remember when last year the Bella\\paris rumors came up and everybody started hyping it into the Uber phone.... (just check the first pages of the rumor thread on esato, Totally imaginary specs, compared to what they were going to deliver before they canceled it)
Now the hyping is starting again in this thread and I somehow have the feeling that until we actually see the phone poplover is talking about a long time will pass... I don't expect anything concerning SE smartphone to be released... maybe even announced this year.
Hope I am wrong but just don't want Hikaro to be Paris all over again, so I am not getting my hopes up in the near future....

if hikaru(or what ever the name it is) was a smartphone and a paris replacement, then i guess it'll be Symbian S60-based just like the Samsung innov8.although i hope that SE will retain the use of fast port connector and ditch the mini-usb. fast port has way more support for accessories than that.

If samsung can make innov8's s60 3.2 look very different to nokia n96 then i'm very sure SE could also do that as well! anyway SE UI is always much better looking than nokia's period
SE UIQ phones have some unique UIs like:
-the media manager UI
-walkman 3.0 UI
-picture manager UI(the one seen on G900 which is imo better than the 3D gallery in nokia n-series)
-camera UI(sadly the touch AF will become missing for sure
-UIQ 3.3 dashboard widgets(back port to s60)
and since s60 3.2 now have those iphone style menu transitions on it, it will fit SE's UI elements well.
Posted by Rishone
i for one dont want to see S60 on any SE phone, i love UIQ and want to see an improved version of UIQ (3.3 or 4 anyone

^I prefer UIQ as well

They could develop an app of the media gallery like they did on the X1 for S60 devices... I just hate the look of S60... if they make it look like UIQ or A200 I'll be happy =) (or I meant happier)

I doubt on S60 on SE, guys what made you think of it??
Why the hell would they do such an idiotic move?
They have UiQ3.3, very capable.
And it's touch screen what SE will NOT resign from!!!
Imagine Pseries without it! Hahaha.
And please read the name correctly from Mizzle's post!!

Agreed. Series 60 on a
phone at this point in time would be a little bit crazy.
Sony Ericsson have UIQ3.3 ready to go, so why put S60 on a device now, when they could be spending those resources looking at the whole Symbian Foundation stuff for 2010.
They've got enough troubles without having to maintain S60 as well as A200, A300, UIQ and Windows Mobile platforms.
Might as well send UIQ3 off with a great phone to keep them ticking over until the whole Symbian Foundation stuff has settled down and there are products ready for that. Otherwise there's going to be an 18-24 month gap in their product lineup.
Posted by Muhammad-Oli
Well The Symbian Foundation platform will be backwards compatible with S60 software etc, and not UIQ as far as I know, so starting with S60 now is probably a good idea.
They will obviously make it look Sony Ericsson, there is no worrying there. I think it is probably their best bet at this moment in time. UIQ can't go on for the few fans (we are not a majority) because it is going to be cut off when the Symbian Foundation takes full effect.
Posted by idumbakumar
also, even though they are capable, they dont try S60 on their flagship device. SE sitting ON the top with touch screen. if they put s60 they may loose this one. so it must be with UIQ.
Posted by jayce
Going with S60 as the replacement GUI for the P1 successor would mean having a P series phone without a touch screen interface, which is the wrong direction when the world and their dog want touch screen phones.
Furthermore it would be a new experience for
users, which fundamentally is time limited with S60 Touch / Symbian Foundation appearing within 2 years. Would you really want to start to use S60 and then have to change for your next phone?
I can see the advantages of giving up on UIQ now for
but they still employee some UIQ people, so I'm not convinced the platform is completely dead for the next 12 months. Long term yes, short term ... I think it would make sense to just ship some UIQ3.3 phones as the risks are much lower than changing over to S60 now.
But that's just my thoughts
Posted by makbil
If SE starts using S60, they will loose the touch screen capability and I believe will have to start paying Nokia a royalty fee for S60. I don't think they would do that. Besides, without touch screen, why should I get an SE, Nokia already has better specs on S60 and their bugs are pretty much ironed out.
SE's best course of action is to announce a UIQ 3.x device on a better platform than the P1i and support that for 2 years until SF becomes available.

Let's just hope for a better hardware for new UiQ3.3 devices.
And remember, what they test in labs is a whole another story.
So hoping the last info is based on some SE plans, not just another proto with unknown future.

According to what is there on the net, SE will bring S60 devices now and not UIQ, though I prefer UIQ I don't see much chances of it being continued, may be SE will bring 1 or 2 devices this year...
Now as for S60, if SE comes up with devices based on S60, I am sure they will be much better in UI layout, design and SE's feel... Also, Nokia is coming with S60 touch screen devices then why do you all think SE's S60 devices will be non touchscreen only???
Well, all this is just my guess based on what is there on this forum and the net, I don't know what SE is actually gonna do... I am just hoping for the best...
Posted by the-flash
So if S60 doesn't have touchscreen capability what are nokia's touchscreen phones going to run on?
Posted by BoyBawang
S60 touch is something new to SE therefore it will take time to develop a device for it unless you're patient to wait till 2010. They can go for none touch S60 flagship but whats the point? I could have bought N95 in the first place.
Why start from scratch with S60 if they have years of UIQ experience already? not to mention UIQ as a superior interface.
Please SE give UIQ a last chance with 3.3. Then I won't complain in 2years and will happily welcome Symbian Foundation

pop lover used the word picture i think and confused some of you, there isnt actually a photograph but the WAY he used it, was to mean that the information concerning to device is still blurry, and there isnt much to go on. ie the OVERALL OUTLOOK of "HECARO" (sp) is blurry, not a spy pic.
please read.

S60 phones from SE can only only appear on late 2009, about one year before symbian foundation devices. Now its too early. According to info that Zed from CellPhoneSoft got, the final version of uiq 3.3 will be ready on September, and after that devices will appear on market, from motorola and SE - as usual, who knows if this will really happen. My point, if Hicaru is to be launched at short term, it can only be uiq 3.3 or wm

wild rumors have it that Android and Symbian Foundation will join up again to create an open source OS.
source: http://www.informationweek.co[....]icle.jhtml?articleID=209600592
its merely analyst speculation right now, but WoW this is another MASSIVE drop, in my opinion simply amazing! if SE doesnt have to worry about software, oh my, they could actually create some insane hardware, esp if SONY has to step in (or out at this juncture) to save its own name let alone the brands its lent to SE.
Posted by Yakkaimono
I read it but I don't think anything like that would happen. Why would they go all the way to make the Symbian Foundation only to announce a little while later that it'll be joining force with Android. I thought one of the reason for the emerging of the Symbian Foundation is to be a competitor to Android.
But I would like it if they would come together cause then we would have an awesome OS.
Posted by my ninja
its quite clear, if they are both open why not merge and make one platform to compete against the apples and the MS' of the mobile OS sphere.
it makes complete sense business wise, if NOKIA was aware of what its intentions were (long term) then in order to make the transition easier it just bought everything then gave it to a foundation, and then have that base work with android, one less competitor and a hell of a partner. like the article said several of the more influential members of the symbian foundation and the OHA overlap ... why SHOULDN'T they team up?
Posted by BoyBawang
that merge is impossible. Symbian and Android are totally different architectures. I heard that android is Java based and has it's own virtual machine. Unified Symbian is still Symbian based therefore compatibility between the two is hard.
Note that Unified Symbian is not even compatible with UIQ despite UIQs Symbian heritage how much more with Android??

two questions:
1) does anybody have a certain insight toward SE's future strategy? a blurred description maybe..
2) what is happening between Eldar and SE ?
10x in advance..
Posted by c96sthl
who cares what ELDAR think! yup SE phone sucks recently but buying what is still our own preference. his point of view is for your reference before you buy something.
there's wasn't much bad comment or remark about S500 or W580 keypad going to crack until it really crack when the phone start selling....now before the phone start selling there's worries its going to crack
heck i don't care i will choose a phone i like with it suit my taste at tht moment of period.
