Maybe it's been missed in all the chat about 3.5mm sockets for headphones, but the statement from Technical Expert about Hecaro due in September made me stop for a moment.
What is that statement based on?
When you say due, are you talking the announcement month or availability month?
(given Sony Ericssons track record I can only imagine announcement)
September is approximately 6-7 weeks away, yet there have been no details leaked so far.
I don't think you can make such a claim without backing that up with more evidence.

I, unlike Eldar, think this is a truly great phone...

now that is something.
eagerly waiting to see the specs (internal storage???))
and i hope if M-R is going to review this model... better to clean the fingerprints on the lens... then try shooting photo-samples.

One of the first things that hit me about this phone is the fingerprints. The example in these pictures is covered with them! The snakeskin back of the phone is all smudged up, as is the camera lens. Then take a look at the front, the screen, the glossy black between the keys, and the snakeskin are all covered in fingerprints too! This is going to be terrible for keeping clean (especially getting between the keys).
Though that wouldn't stop me buying one if I wanted it... Its a damn nice phone.

That's what I had heard many months ago as well.

Yeah that sounds about right, with the Sony 8GB M2 being announced a few days ago.

i think only esato members is saying 3.5mm jack is not important.. if it is not, then why put it in the pmp or dap? they cause simply use their own jack..

the whole phone body doesn't look bad. not as bad as K850 as a fingerprint magnet!!!
just the camera lens... the fingerprints on it will have a vast effect on the quality of the captured pics.

hehehe... i remember nightmares when i hear anything about SONY M2 cards.... i remember sometime that i had to replace 8 of them to find a healthy one........ sandisk M2 cards all the way...

Its hard to gauge the thickness still. I'm guessing around 12mm.
im on the same line as you goldenface:
Size of w910 -
Dimensions 99 x 50 x 12.5 mm
Weight 86 g
Size of w890 -
Dimensions 104 x 46.5 x 9.9 mm
Weight 78 g
its bound to be around the same thickness as w910 and same length as the w890
and im guessing also same or a lesser width then the w910..
meh in time we'll see:)

You can clearly see design elements from SE in Patty..
Anyone who tried out the W980?
I wonder if the d-pad and softkeys are nice to use? since they look like crap IMHO xD.

Just as I was saying before (except a bit more detailed).
Also, the keypad is nicked from the W890i!

Some Info about Patti W902:-
- 5MP AF Camera + PhotoFlash ...... quality like G900 one in the Beta SW
- 2.2 QVGA Screen
- 160MB Internal memory
- Loudspeaker like K850 one "W902 Still a Prototype" ..... the Phone not equiped with Stereo Speaker
- Dedicated music keys
- Slim Phone indeed
- Shake it! LIKE W760 and W980

Why do i think this phone looks damn ugly
I never liked the design of K630 and this one is really similar, exept for the keypad
I like the fact they make an walkman phone with a 5mp cam, but this one is ugly and i don't like that
Allso i think the thing on top looks like an 3.5mm plug.
Posted by bart
as long as SE keeps using samsung cam modules they won't win the hearts of the good old fans/users.
K750/800/810 where a big succes because the cam module cam from sony and it was the best quality availeble at that moment. And to be honest their is not 1 phone that has a better 2MP or 3,2MP cam then those.

an other topic...
are there any news of a SE multi-touch cell? the tendency of consumers is clearly in this way. an innovation on the part of SE would be really nice!
p.s. i like the design of w902, but imho there are no advantages for a walkman phone, because the k/c-series (for example k850, c905) have also a nice walkman player AND a great camera. so the c-serie is at the moment the first choice for me.

From the mobiletoday interview:
Another leap is about to be taken on a new Walkman phone. No details are available at the moment, but it is expected to have a monster 16GB of memory and what is rumoured to be a large touch-screen format.

Nothing to said here
but W980 provide a very nice sound from the Headset as we know it's bundled with HPM-77

The fact it has a top, bottom, and middle?
I will agree that it is not a stellar design and nothing extraordinary, however.

Well more like curved tops/bottoms and circular d-pad/softkeys.

Yes, to a certain extent, SE has lost its charm. But, phones like xperia, p1i, w980 etc look so beautiful and are some serious head turners. They truely stand out in the crowd.

Dark days ahead, Maybe. Most likely nothing to do with design but more of lack of engineers for the smartphone front. I fear Xperia is mostly done by HTC and not in-house engineering. we'll see though.
's design has lacked lately but not so much ... Z780, W980i W890i and K850i are ALL exceptionally innovative designs and very appealing! Regardless of K850i's performance, truth be told MANY of us purchased it because it looked LOVELY! Also note that the competitors didn't care or have ANY design at all until the past 4yrs and have been pressing the design engineering button on panick and coming up with really sweet designs. But function is what we ALL love of SE ... remember the familiar menu .... we go with what works well and familiar, just like the Apple fans keep buying their PC's.

Right you are. But it is the combination of the two - the excellent UI and design that works magic, at least for me. Regarding the smartphone section of the portfolio, it is important indeed but still a fraction of the overall sales. If
is to improve its market position or indeed survive the competition it must, at least stick to the standards of the basics i.e. UI and design - if it starts lacking there, and repeating itself design-wise in W902 and in some other recent models is the first warning sign, then there may well be reasons to worry about what lies ahead.
Cheers!
