Phoner, you are so a lucky guy - really lucky!! I fell in love with Beibei. It is / was my favourite handset of SE in 2008. unfortunately it's cancelled for europe. I hope it will come a similiar phone :)

I'm happy waitng for the C905, the C902 will me do me until then but I guess I'm not as demanding as some users.
They need to diversify with their form factors and bring out some large screens to compete with Samsung etc.

SEMCJ just need to step in...

They really need to make phones with larger screens, atleast 2.8" to compete with smartphones out there

Beibei had as much value to it as Paris did as a member of SE's product portfolio. Paris was meant to increase the maximum specs of a handset running UIQ as a P series flagship. Beibei, on the other hand seemed unique, in that it was the first smartphone I have ever seen (from SE, at any rate) which seemed to specifically target females. They both would have probably sold really well. Id love to know what the real reason for their cancellation is. It cant be Symbian Foundation IMO, because in 2 years these specs wont be as acceptable/impressive as they are now, something much more serious will overtake/replace them by then anyway, as far as SE's line up is concerned. Could it really be that industry experts' criticisms of the lack of cutting edge specs be the reason for the cancellation? Was there a crucial change to UIQ3.3 and the way the software itself was run?
Anyway, time to look forward to this month's announcement. Hopefully we will see more of what we are waiting for.

@ares, I agree with you. I had come to the same conclusion some months ago, probably because I'm more technically oriented and I have actually worked as a project manager.

The next announcement will be either 22 or 27 july if my memory serves me correct.
Patti will be one of the devices that will be announced.

that's a pitty, I hoped it would be earlyer, cause i'm on holiday then

Seriously Guys, just think - Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications Japan step in, and the current Sony Ericsson portfolio is merged with models from SEMCJ (of course with added features such as Bluetooth and the fastport to 'localise' the Japanese handsets)...

Maybe they couldn't find enough vital components to put into production.
Its not the first time they've had this trouble. I remember they had the same problem around the time the W810i was in production, there was shortage that was affecting production.
@Prudent
The bringer of good tidings. Patty sounds interesting. Hope it looks as good as it sound.

Do you got it from SE? If it's really canceled then why is it still circulated for testing? That should confirm its release outside Europe! Ofcourse i'm after for Paris

I think the only minus point for beibei is a Videocall camera. If beibei have it i think its a really nice phone

Nah, he got one of the prototypes floating around for sale. That's why he mentioned canceling it. If he got it from SE then it wouldn't be canceled would it?

That's what I hope. SE Japan isn't really doing too well in Japan [especially with DoComo], but if that means they could allocate some of their resources to SE, just "imagine" what will happen. Once SE International begins to UP their quality and image, Sony might be more confident in allowing SE to use the PSP branding along with other brands.
My point is, SE needs to have SE Japan phone qualities.

@clauf
I agree - yes SEMCJ aren't doing too well with DoCoMo, but, they are doing very well with au by KDDI (a recent collaboration with Konami and Metal Gear Solid 4 has sent sales of the W62s sky high).
http://www.konami.jp/mgs4/jp/sonyericsson/
On top of that, adding the build quality and features of JPN Phones, would outshine even the brightest Nokia - and Zoom in closer than any Samsung. The SO905iCS is mightily impressive, but its SIMlocks disable it severely - as does the lack of Bluetooth, and the heavily locked up Symbian MOAP Operating system. If Shiho (which has seen more input from SEMCJ than any other SEMC product, since the S700i) can come even close to the build quality, materials and performance of the SO905iCS, with which it clearly shares it's genes - SEMC may have just saved their reputation.
If indeed this is true, then there will be only winner at TIPA, and one King this year...and that won't be Nokia, LG, Moto or Samsung.

to all se insiders.......
after so many disappointmens about paris, beibei, is there any ray of hope of announcment of high end phones in this month or next?
Posted by goldenface
From the 1st post.
A 2.4" screened, DLNA certified, UIQ based device is planned for this months announcement.
Sounds like a ray of hope to me.

Doesn't sound too high end to me with a 2.4" screen. Come on guys, don't lower your standards so much. A high end phone needs to be at least better than the P990, which even the P1 is not except for the RAM.

I have to agree there. We arent seeing an unquestionable improvement across the board.

No wonder
are reporting poor sales and lower earnings when they seem to be focused on rehashing dozens of low end phones and shoving a Walkman logo on anything to sell it.
The P990 was announced in late 2005. What have Sony Ericsson done since then?
When other vendors are pushing boundaries, what do we get? Product cancellations and more delays.
Where's the uberphone from the Java ONE conference?
Where's the buzz we were hoping for this year?
*sigh*

So lets start a teaser then for some new models.
Small pieces will be given to you to make you salivate.

Oooh ... walkman slider phone? Replacement for the W910?

With Linda and Patty, it sounds like this is predominantly a Walkman announcement. I hope the 16GB flagship is also announced.

Linda is a w580 successor, BTW.
I hate funky colored phones.

it looks auspicious. what do you think?

Looking at the JavOne video again, it looks like the phone has the arc design so this may have inspired the X1 arc slider. Are we going to see a PSP style interface on these latest phones? Does anyone have the 16GB Walkman?

Just what we have been waiting for.
I'm wondering if the coming UIQ phone is a Cyber-shot because we are still to see a UIQ Snapper and the C905 is also DLNA certified.

Linda, So beautiful:)
Posted by NightBlade
I guess it looks ok. I actually like the design more than when I posted my last post.
Would have been cool if the walkman logo lit up when using the music player, though.
Posted by murderjon
The white/red colour looks better than this!
Posted by 10123
Lacks any wow factor, too much of a w580 look alike people may get confused between two fones :S
Hopefully has somthing inovative like littel legs that pop from underneath and arms that make the phone dance
Anyway if w580 successor it will probs feature something new in walkman phones like w580i- Shake control
Posted by zanoman
I really dont like SE's slider-design. And the inclined bottom doesnt do anything for me. Just my opinion..
Posted by NightBlade
SE sliders have a more industrial/funky design.
